Thackeray cousins to share stage after two decades at joint Marathi identity rally
The joint celebration is being organised by the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). A public invitation released on Tuesday (July 1, 2025), titled 'Marathicha Awaaz', features no party symbols but carries the names of Uddhav and Raj Thackeray as co-hosts, along with a graphic outline of the State of Maharashtra.
'Marathi mothers, sisters and brothers, did we make the government bow down? Yes, we did make the government bow down! This celebration will be yours. We were only fighting on your behalf. Therefore, even while celebrating this joy, we are only the organisers of this gathering; the rest is for you to celebrate. Come, celebrate and burst with joy! We are waiting!' the joint invitation reads.
Confirming their attendance, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said the event would be a 'celebration of Marathi unity and pride,' and an assertion of regional identity.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday (June 29, 2025) had announced the withdrawal of the government resolutions that was proposed to introduce Hindi from Class 1 in State-run schools as part of a uniform three-language policy — a move strongly opposed by both the MNS and Sena (UBT).
The two parties had earlier announced a joint protest march but called it off after the withdrawal, calling it a 'victory of the Marathi manoos'. Mr. Uddhav Thackeray subsequently announced a public celebration on July 5 to highlight Marathi unity.
Reacting to the announcement of the joint rally, BJP MP and former Chief Minister Narayan Rane launched a scathing attack on Mr. Uddhav Thackeray, accusing him of pushing Mr. Raj out of the undivided Shiv Sena and now seeking reconciliation for political gain.
'Has Mr. Uddhav forgotten how he harassed Raj, causing him to quit the party? Now he is trying to butter him up in the name of brotherhood,' Mr. Rane posted on social media.
Mr. Rane went on to blame Uddhav for the decline of the original Shiv Sena, stating, 'Balasaheb Thackeray brought the party to power, but Mr. Uddhav lost it. He doesn't have the strength or ability to reclaim what was lost.'
He also pointed to the contributions of himself, Eknath Shinde, and Ganesh Naik to the Shiv Sena's growth, claiming they were discarded by Mr. Uddhav's leadership. Notably, Mr. Raj Thackeray had campaigned in support of Mr. Rane during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
In response, Bhaskar Jadhav, senior leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT), questioned Mr. Rane's credibility and political consistency.
'Why is Narayan Rane so concerned about others? He left his own party within a year, then quit Congress. He must explain his own journey to the people of Maharashtra,' Mr. Jadhav said.
He also referred to Mr. Rane's recent remarks aimed at BJP Minister Ravindra Chavan, suggesting they revealed deeper political contradictions within the ruling coalition.

‘Fadnavis should apologise to Aaditya'
Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Thursday demanded an apology from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and state minister Nitesh Rane over their past remarks against Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray in connection with Disha Salian death case. Former celebrity manager Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, after falling off the 14th floor of a residential building in Malad area of Mumbai. The city police had then registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR). The police, in an affidavit submitted to the Bombay High Court last month, said she committed suicide and no foul play has been found in her death, even as her father Satish Salian reiterated she was gangraped and murdered. Satish Salian filed a petition in the HC in March this year, seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into his daughter's death and an FIR against Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aditya Thackeray. 'The police report has clearly stated that Aaditya Thackeray had no involvement in Disha Salian's death. Yet, power was misused to malign his image and humiliate him,' Raut told reporters here. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis should apologise to Thackeray. (BJP MP) Narayan Rane's son, who is also a cabinet minister (Nitesh Rane), should apologise not only to Aaditya Thackeray but also to the people of Maharashtra, the Rajya Sabha member said. Everyone who made baseless allegations should issue a public apology, Raut said, adding 'those defaming others for political gains will pay a heavy price one day.' CM Fadnavis holds charge of the state home department. NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar also raised the issue, claiming, 'BJP leaders and ministers from Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena faction have constantly hurled allegations at Aaditya Thackeray using foul and offensive language.' Talking to reporters in the Vidhan Bhavan complex, Pawar urged the government to take action against those responsible for what he called a 'deliberate attempt to mislead the public for political mileage.'

Rahul attacks Modi govt over Maha farmer suicides
New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday attacked the Modi government over farmer suicides in Maharashtra, saying that it remains indifferent to farmers' plight, even as they are sinking deeper into debt every day. In a post on X in Hindi, the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha accused the government of ignoring farmers' demands for a loan waiver and a legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP) for crops. On Wednesday, opposition members walked out of the Maharashtra Assembly twice over issues of farmer suicides and non-payment of dues to soybean cultivators in the state. 'This system is killing farmers -- silently, but continuously and Modi ji is watching the spectacle of his own PR,' Gandhi said. Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar claimed in the assembly that 767 farmers committed suicide in Maharashtra between January and March this year. While 200 cases were declared ineligible for aid, inquiries are pending in 194 cases, he said. Gandhi also shared a screenshot of a news report which put the number of farmer suicides in Maharashtra in the first three months at 767. 'Think about it... in just 3 months, 767 farmers committed suicide in Maharashtra. Is this just a statistic? No. These are 767 destroyed homes. 767 families that will never be able to recover. And the government? It is silent. It is watching indifferently,' the former Congress president said. Farmers are sinking deeper into debt every day as seeds, fertilizers and diesel are expensive. 'But there is no guarantee of MSP. When they demand a loan waiver, they are ignored,' he charged. 'But (what about) those who have crores? The Modi government easily waives their loans. Just look at today's news -- Anil Ambani's Rs 48,000 crore SBI 'fraud',' he said. 'Modi ji had said that he would double the income of farmers. Today the situation is such that the life of the farmer is being halved. BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya hit back, sharing a chart on X which claimed that 55,928 farmers committed suicide in Maharashtra during the 15-year tenure of the NCP-Congress government. 'The politics of counting the dead is disgusting, but it is necessary to show the mirror to people like Rahul Gandhi,' Malviya said.

Delhi HC dismisses plea by actor Jacqueline Fernandez to quash money-laundering case against her
The Delhi High Court on Thursday dismissed Hindi film actor Jacqueline Fernandez's petition seeking to quash a Rs 200 crore money laundering case linked to conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar, Live Law reported. The actor had moved court seeking to quash the Enforcement Directorate's case against her, along with a second supplementary chargesheet that names her as the tenth accused. In her plea, Fernandez claimed that she was a victim of Chandrasekhar's 'maliciously targeted attack'. 'There is absolutely no indication she had any involvement whatsoever in aiding him to launder his purportedly ill-gotten wealth,' the legal news outlet quoted the plea as saying. The petition said that in view of this, she could not be prosecuted for alleged money laundering. Fernandez's plea also stated that the Enforcement Directorate had acknowledged that Tihar Jail officials gave Chandrasekhar unrestricted access to mobile phones and other technology, which he allegedly used to deceive the original complainant and several film artists, including herself. The plea further argued that since the agency had already recorded her statement as a prosecution witness in the original fraud case, continuing proceedings against her in the money laundering case was unjustified. In the money laundering case, Chandrashekhar is accused of extorting around Rs 215 crore from Shivinder Singh, a former promoter of pharmaceutical giant Ranbaxy, and his wife Aditi Singh. Chandrashekhar had allegedly impersonated the Union home secretary, law secretary and an officer in the prime minister's office while speaking to them. On August 7, 2022, Chandrashekhar was arrested by the Delhi Police. The Enforcement Directorate is also investigating the allegations that Chandrashekhar used funds gained by cheating and extorting high-profile individuals to buy gifts for Fernandez. The agency had named the actor in a supplementary chargesheet in the case. The supplementary chargesheet alleged that Chandrashekhar gave gifts worth Rs 5.71 crore to Fernandez from the proceeds of crime generated by criminal activities, including extortion. The investigating agency also claimed that Fernandez was aware that the gifts given to her were the proceeds of crime.
