USAFA cadet candidate killed in alleged hit-and-run while kayaking in Texas
On Sunday, May 25, Texas Game Wardens responded to a water fatality involving a personal watercraft and a kayaker at Lake Grapevine in Tarrant County, Texas. According to Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPW), details indicated that a personal watercraft occupied by two women allegedly struck the victim and killed the 18-year-old.
The passenger of the personal watercraft remained on scene to be interviewed by first responders. TPW said that the operator left the scene with a man, and while leaving the area, the operator and the man then struck another car.
On Monday, May 26, TPW announced it was looking for both the operator and the driver of the vehicle and asked the public to help locate them. On Tuesday, May 27, the suspect allegedly tied to the 18-year-old's death, Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez, was arrested.
'We are thankful for the help of fellow law enforcement officers from the Texas Attorney General's Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Dallas Police Department, and Homeland Security Investigations,' wrote TPW.
On Tuesday, the Air Force Academy confirmed the victim, Ava Moore, was a cadet candidate who had graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School on May 19, 2025, and had accepted an appointment to join the Academy as a member of the Class of 2029.
'We lost an exemplary teammate this weekend – Cadet Candidate Ava Moore, whose passion for leadership and service left an impact on everyone she met,' said Academy Superintendent Lt Gen Tony Bauernfeind. 'Ava's constant happiness and attitude helped her squadron get through the challenges of the Prep School, and her drive to excel was on display as she sought out leadership positions to improve herself and her team. Our team is focused on providing support to Ava's family, her Prep School Squadron, the Prep School Women's Basketball team, and the entire Academy family.'
'Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ava's family, friends, and loved ones,' USAFA wrote via Facebook. 'Ava, may you find blue skies and tailwinds as you rest forever in peace.'

Albion confirm exciting new partnership with leading football academy in Bradford
A FOOTBALL academy from the city has signed an exciting new partnership with local club Albion Sports. Located in Bradford, 3FC will now offer a pathway into the Lions' U23s side for some of their standout talents. The two men behind the partnership are George Conway and Sam Mir, who are the lead coaches at 3FC Academy. The pair have agreed, following discussions with Albion Sports, to also take over as head coaches of the Lions' U23s side in order to create a pathway between 3FC and semi-professional football. Speaking to the T&A, Conway, who previously signed a professional contract with Huddersfield Town as a player, said: 'At 3FC Academy, we welcome aspiring young footballers from ages 5-18 to come and train and experience an academy level environment, and coaching with us. 'For the younger lads, we have a pathway for them to join Bradford City's Academy, and with our older lads, from age fourteen plus, instead of being unrealistic and throwing them into a professional environment, we wanted to find a way of creating a pathway into semi-professional football. 'Myself and Sam (Mir) have a lot of experience in the semi-professional environment, whether it be coaching or playing, so we thought it would be beneficial to create a local link for our lads. 'That's why we pursued this with Albion.' Conway added: 'Previously, we didn't have an official link with a semi-professional club for our older boys; instead, we used our contacts within the non-league circle to find our players moves. 'For some of them, going straight into a first team environment was a challenge and perhaps came too soon for them. 'So, the perfect scenario for us was to run a semi-professional club's U23s side, as it would give our lads a better route into men's football. 'After talks with Riz (Mohammed Rizwan), Albion's joint-manager, and the club chairman, they were fully behind this partnership and were happy to let us step in as coaches for the U23s side.' 'We'll be moving the U23s at Albion forward and giving the players the best chance to make that step up into semi-professional football.' He added: 'The ball is well and truly rolling now; we've had a trial evening last Wednesday and we aim to use the whole of August to continue trialling players for Albion's U23s. So far, we've had 22 players at the trials. 'Me and Sam will continue to coach at 3FC, but the programmes run so smoothly that coaching at Albion will fit really well into our weekly schedules.' Jet ski operator indicted in Memorial Day death of teen kayaker Ava Moore on Grapevine Lake
A woman accused of fatally striking a teen kayaker with a high-speed jet ski on Grapevine Lake over Memorial Day weekend has been indicted, the victim's attorneys said Friday. A Tarrant County grand jury indicted Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez, 21, on a charge of manslaughter in connection with the death of 18-year-old Ava Moore. Gonzalez is an undocumented immigrant, authorities said. If convicted of manslaughter, Gonzalez faces two to 20 years in prison and a maximum $10,000 fine under Texas law. Gonzalez allegedly fled the scene with a man who later crashed his car before escaping. A passenger on the jet ski stayed and spoke with officers, and Moore was taken to a hospital, where she died from her injuries. According to Moore's attorneys, her family is grateful the case is moving forward but remains heartbroken and devastated. "Ava was a bright light with a promising future, and her life was taken far too soon," attorney Ty Stimpson of the Varghese Summersett law firm said in a statement. "The Moore family asks for continued prayers and privacy as they continue on their journey toward healing." Stimpson said the family is conducting an independent investigation into water patrol policies, enforcement protocols, and safety measures at the local, state and federal levels. "We are committed to holding accountable any individual or entity whose actions — or inactions — contributed to this tragedy," Stimpson said. The family and legal team, Stimpson said, are pushing for legislative and policy reforms to improve waterway safety, including increased patrols, more visible signage for designated zones, and a dedicated emergency response line for waterway incidents. "Texas lakes can be extremely dangerous without proper oversight, and meaningful reforms are necessary to protect the public and prevent future tragedies," Stimpson said. "Lake safety must be a priority — not just during high-traffic holidays, but every day." In late May, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said Gonzalez is an undocumented immigrant and that the man who helped her flee the scene is also undocumented. Authorities also charged Maikel Alexander Coello Perozo, 21, with hindering apprehension or prosecution, a Class A misdemeanor under Texas law. "Ava Moore's senseless death was caused by an illegal alien who should have never been in our country in the first place," Paxton said in a May statement. "My heart breaks for Ava's family and friends, and my prayers are with them as they face this tragedy. My office will continue to work with local, state, and national law enforcement partners to secure justice for Ava." Law enforcement said the woman driving the jet ski fled the scene with a man, who later crashed his car into another vehicle before driving off. A passenger on the jet ski remained at the scene and spoke with officers, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. A family member said they are "completely devastated" by Moore's death and that their "family will never be the same." Lisa Scrabeck, who was at the lake, said she helped render aid to Moore after she was pulled ashore. She checked for a pulse and heartbeat and confirmed that Moore was wearing a life jacket, which was removed before CPR began. "She didn't suffer in agony," Scrabeck told CBS News Texas. "It's very tragic, and I extend my deepest condolences to the family. I can't imagine being the parents of this young girl. But one thing I can say is that she didn't suffer from the moment I saw her." Scrabeck also noted that she had seen the women on the jet ski "driving recklessly" throughout the day.

Former Arsenal academy player Max Kuczynski has officially signed for Charlton Athletic after leaving the Gunners this summer. 'Bringing new players into the academy is always exciting and to do this within the U21s squad is great,' Charlton academy manager Tom Pell said. 'We work a lot on identifying the right characters, players that align with our player profiles, and those that we feel ultimately have the potential to impact our men's first-team squad in the coming years. 'Therefore it gives me great pleasure to welcome Ty [Ewens-Findlay], Max [Kuczynski] and Paris [Lock] to the club. 'Ty joins us from Cambridge United and Max from Arsenal, both whom ply their trade as central defenders. Paris joins us from AFC Wimbledon after a number of successful non-league Loans and will compliment our exciting attacking options.' Kuczynski did make competitive appearances for the Arsenal u18s, but only on a couple of occasions. He made his debut as a substitute in a 5-2 win over Chelsea in May 2024, then made his first and only start for the team in a 3-2 victory over West Brom in February 2025. With the player now ageing out of u18 football, it was ultimately little surprise the club decided to let him leave and find a club willing to give him more regular opportunities. Kuczynski already made a handful of appearances on trial for Charlton's youth teams last season, so they know what they're getting with him. But as Charlton's academy manager mentions, the plan is evidently for Kuczynski to start off in the u21 team.
