Egypt, Poland discuss cooperation in agriculture, food industries

Amr Abdel Wahab, Chairperson and Managing Director of the Egyptian Countryside Development Company, received the Ambassador of Poland to Cairo, Michał Murkociński, and his accompanying delegation at the company's headquarters in Cairo.
The meeting explored prospects for cooperation between Poland and Egypt's 1.5 Million Feddan Project—one of the region's largest sustainable agricultural initiatives. Discussions centred on partnerships with major Polish companies and institutions in the fields of agricultural mechanisation, smart farming, food processing, and sustainable development.
The visit reflects the Egyptian Countryside Development Company's broader strategy to enhance international cooperation and attract foreign investment in support of the national project's goals.
Among the key topics discussed were the transfer of Polish expertise in smart agriculture and the potential for joint manufacturing of advanced agricultural tractors in Egypt, combining local labour with Polish technology. The two sides also addressed opportunities for expanding renewable energy solutions across the project's territory, and strengthening agricultural value chains through food industry cooperation.
The talks further considered the potential for partnerships between Polish companies and local investors, including young land beneficiaries, with the aim of boosting productivity and ensuring sustainable practices.
Amr Abdel Wahab emphasised that the 1.5 Million Feddan Project offers vast opportunities for serious and mutually beneficial collaboration, describing it as a model for modern agricultural development grounded in scientific and economic principles.
'We look forward to cooperating with the Polish side in agricultural technology, renewable energy generation, and food processing. We welcome all efforts that drive development and contribute to achieving food security for Egypt and the region,' Abdel Wahab said.
For his part, Ambassador Murkociński expressed admiration for the progress achieved by the Egyptian Countryside Development Company in recent months, praising the project's ambitious vision and expansion plans.
'Poland has deep expertise in advanced agriculture and natural resource management. We see strong opportunities for cooperation in both the short and medium term, particularly given the solid bilateral ties between Cairo and Warsaw,' the ambassador noted.
Both parties highlighted the importance of continued technical and economic exchanges, agreeing that upcoming visits will help define operational frameworks for cooperation. These visits will also allow Polish companies to explore opportunities in agricultural infrastructure development across Egypt's new countryside.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to form joint working groups to study investment opportunities presented by the Egyptian Countryside Development Company and to develop implementation plans for future collaboration across various components of the 1.5 Million Feddan Project.

‘Scandalous' banner displayed by Maccabi Haifi soccer fans receives widespread condemnation from Polish officials

Polish president Karol Nawrocki has denounced a 'scandalous' banner displayed by a group of Israeli soccer fans at a UEFA Conference League qualifying match on Thursday. Supporters of Israeli club Maccabi Haifa held a large banner reading 'murderers since 1939' close to the front of the stands and across a row of seats during the match against Raków Częstochowa in Debrecen, Hungary – an apparent reference to the Holocaust and the crimes committed by Nazi Germany. On Friday, European soccer governing body UEFA announced that disciplinary proceedings have been instigated against Maccabi Haifa for 'transmitting a message not fit for (a) sports event.' CNN Sports has contacted Maccabi Haifa for comment. Germany invaded Poland in 1939, with more than three million Polish Jews and 1.9 million non-Jewish citizens killed during the Holocaust. Poland was the center of Ashkenazi Jewry before the Holocaust, but by the end of World War II, just 10% of the community remained. Considerable research by historians has found that some Polish individuals and groups did collaborate with the Nazi occupiers. 'Individual Poles often helped in the identification, denunciation, and hunting down of Jews in hiding, often profiting from the associated blackmail, and actively participated in the plunder of Jewish property,' according to the US Holocaust Memorial Museum. However, recent Polish governments have sought to challenge that narrative of collaboration, and in 2018 passed a law making it illegal to accuse Poland of complicity in crimes committed by Nazi Germany, including the Holocaust. Raków Częstochowa and Maccabi Haifa contest the first leg of their UEFA Conference League qualification tie in Poland. Michal Dubiel/IPA Sport/Shutterstock 'The scandalous banner displayed by fans of Maccabi Haifa insults the memory of Polish citizens – victims of World War Two, including 3 million Jews,' Nawrocki said in a post on X. 'Stupidity that no words can justify.' Meanwhile, Poland's interior minister Marcin Kierwiński said on X that 'anti-Polonism and the outrageous distortion of Polish history by Israeli hooligans require strong condemnation. There is no, and will never be, agreement to such shameful practices.' The Israeli Embassy in Warsaw also criticized the banner, photos of which have been widely shared on social media, describing it as 'disgusting behavior.' 'There is no place for such words and actions, from any side, neither at the stadium nor anywhere else. Never!' it said on X. 'These shameful incidents do not reflect the spirit of the majority of Israeli fans.' CNN Sports has contacted the Nagyerdei Stadion in Hungary, where the match was held, regarding any intervention, including taking down the banner or ejecting the fans responsible. Cezary Kulesza, the president of the Polish Football Association, previously called on UEFA to take disciplinary action following the 'scandalous banner and outrageous behavior,' adding in a post on X: 'There's no consensus for provocations and falsifying history.' Raków Częstochowa won the match 2-0 to reach the playoff round of qualification for this year's Conference League after overcoming a 1-0 deficit from the first leg. The club will now face Bulgarian side Arda Kardzhali on August 21.

PM Madbouly reviews progress of 1.5 Million Feddan Project

Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met on Monday with Amr Abdelwahab, Chairperson of the Egyptian Countryside Development Company (ECDC), to follow up on the progress of the national 1.5 Million Feddan Project—one of Egypt's most significant strategic initiatives. At the start of the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the ECDC's role as both developer and operator of this national project, which forms a central pillar of the 'Step towards the Future' programme. He highlighted the project's contribution to sustainable development and the establishment of new agricultural-based urban communities across the country. Abdelwahab provided a detailed briefing on the company's ongoing efforts in infrastructure development. He reported significant progress in road construction, well drilling, the installation of desalination plants, and the expansion of utility networks across various project sites. He also outlined the current status and plans for electrical grid expansion to meet the energy demands of the project's growing agricultural and residential zones. The meeting also included a review of the geographic distribution of ECDC lands, with updates on developments in areas including Al-Moghra, East Siwa, West-West Minya, West Minya Extension, Al-Tor, Old Farafra and its extension, New Farafra, South Safola, Toshka (surface and groundwater), West Manfalut, Al-Qusiya, and Darb Al-Bahnasawy. Abdelwahab outlined the contracted and cultivated areas at each site, identifying the primary crops grown according to local conditions, as well as activities in livestock, poultry, and aquaculture. To date, around 440,000 feddans have been cultivated or reclaimed, while approximately 875,000 feddans have been handed over to beneficiaries. An additional 192,000 feddans are currently undergoing legalisation or purchase procedures. More than 4,500 companies are now active within the project's various regions. Abdelwahab also highlighted a number of recent accomplishments. These include completing all procedures required to begin marketing industrial zones across ECDC locations, finalising the registration of project lands with the Real Estate Publicity Department, and expanding the total area of cultivated land within company jurisdictions to approximately 130,000 feddans in 2024. In addition, he noted the launch of sales outlets for agricultural and food products at company sites and in Greater Cairo, as well as the introduction of new development initiatives and cooperation protocols with various stakeholders to enhance implementation efforts. The company's digital transformation efforts have also gained momentum. Abdelwahab announced the launch of new electronic services that allow beneficiaries to register and submit applications remotely. He also reported the completion and handover of the Egyptian Countryside Development School for Basic Education in Al-Moghra and the issuance of approximately 3,200 Farmer Cards at the end of 2024. Furthermore, he pointed to the company's role in generating foreign currency revenues through contracts with international investors operating under unified and approved legal frameworks. The meeting underscored the government's continued commitment to supporting the national reclamation project as a foundation for agricultural development, rural stability, and long-term economic growth.

Poland Spends $700 Mln to Fortify Border with Belarus

Israa Farhan Poland has invested about $700 million (2.6 billion zloty) to enhance security along its border with Belarus, Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak announced during a joint visit with German counterpart Alexander Dobrindt to the Pieszczatka-Polowce border crossing. The fortified border is now monitored by over 11,000 Polish border guards, as Warsaw continues its large-scale reinforcement efforts launched in December 2023. Existing border fences, originally built in 2022, have been upgraded with advanced surveillance infrastructure, including high-resolution cameras and motion sensors spanning the full length of the frontier. In addition, Poland's Ministry of defense deployed extra military personnel to the border in August 2024, responding to increasing regional tensions and migration pressures. The initiative underscores the Polish government's broader national security strategy under Prime Minister Donald Tusk, aimed at deterring illegal crossings and safeguarding the eastern flank of the European Union. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks
