Ohio man kills wife before graduation party in murder-suicide, authorities say
A husband fatally shot his wife before killing himself ahead of a graduation party they were set to host in Ohio, officials said.
In a post on Facebook, the Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office said law enforcement was called to a home in Dover Township on Sunday around 1:30 p.m. for reports of a shooting.
The sheriff's office said a 911 caller said she was at the home preparing for a graduation party when the shots were fired. The party was for a child who lived at the home but was not in the house when the shooting happened because the party was set to happen hundreds of yards away from the home on the couple's property, authorities said.
The caller reportedly told 911 that a man in the home shot his wife and then shot himself. When law enforcement arrived, the Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office said they found a man dead on his bed and a woman fatally injured on the floor near the bed. The woman was taken to a hospital in Cleveland, where she died.
CBS affiliate WTRF identified the victims as 53-year-old April Houston and 64-year-old Robert Houston. They were husband and wife and lived at the home, the TV station reported.
The Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office said preliminary information suggests the deaths were a murder-suicide, but a motive was not immediately known. No other details were released.
Dover Township is about 85 miles north of Cleveland and about 100 miles west of Pittsburgh.

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds placed ace pitcher Hunter Greene on the 15-day injured list with a right groin strain and signed veteran left-hander Wade Miley to a one-year contract. Miley, 38, who had Tommy John surgery on his left elbow in May 2024, gets a $2.5 million salary while in the major leagues and $300,000 while in the minors. He would earn a $15,000 performance bonus for each inning pitched from one through 100. He signed a minor league contract with the Reds on Feb. 4 that included an opt-out clause if he didn't reach the big leagues by June 1. The 14-year veteran executed that clause but remained in Cincinnati while he pursued potential deals with other clubs, and he stayed in touch with the Reds. 'I was able to spend some time with the family, just being a dad, going to Little League games,' Miley said. 'I'm appreciative of the Reds organization and the way they handled it. We always stayed in contact. I feel healthy. I'm really excited to be back. I'm ready to go to work.' Miley is the third left-hander in the Reds rotation, joining Nick Lodolo and Andrew Abbott. He made 34 appearances including 32 starts for the Reds in 2020-21, going 12-10 with a 3.55 ERA. He tossed the 17th no-hitter in Reds franchise history, and his first, on May 7, 2021, at Cleveland. Miley has posted 108 victories for eight different teams in his 14 seasons. Manager Terry Francona said Miley's veteran presence is a welcome addition for the Reds' young rotation. 'He and (Reds president of baseball operations) Nick (Krall) talked multiple times,' Francona said. 'I know how much he appreciated Nick's honesty. We were going to have him in the bullpen and then knowing at some point we would probably need him. Well, it happened a little quicker.' Francona said Miley will be available out of the bullpen for the series finale against the Brewers. If he's not used, he'll pitch the first game of the upcoming Cleveland series, then move into the rotation. 'He was in full (uniform) early this morning,' Francona said. 'It's really welcome. We've been waiting for him. He's a bright light. He brings a lot. His ability to compete, he won't shortchange you.' It was another setback for Greene who made three starts since a 15-day stint on the injured list last month due to a groin strain he sustained May 7 during a start in Atlanta. In a 4-2 win over the Brewers, Green threw 85 pitches before leaving the game after five innings when he felt discomfort in his groin. An MRI was scheduled, but Francona said there was no need to wait for the results. 'We talked to him, we talked to trainers, it was kind of an easy decision even without seeing the MRI,' Francona said. 'We've got to get him healthy.' Greene — who made his first All-Star appearance last season — is 4-3 with a 2.72 ERA in 11 starts this year.

Boy, 15, charged with murder in shooting death of 13-year-old boy in Joliet
Joliet police said a 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with the murder of a 13-year-old boy shot to death in an alley Monday. Officers were called to the 300 block of South Desplaines Street in Joliet Monday shortly before 4:45 p.m. where they found the teen in an alley with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Wednesday, police arrested a 15-year-old boy who they said knew the victim and had been involved in an "ongoing personal dispute" with him. Police said they believe the 15-year-old confronted the 13-year-old as a part of this dispute and allegedly shot him twice during the confrontation. The teen was arrested Tuesday in the 600 block of Benton Street for aggravated battery, mob action and disorderly conduct from a separate incident on May 6, police said. While he was in custody, he was questioned about the shooting death of the 13-year-old. The Will County State's Attorney has charged the 15-year-old with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon. The teen is currently in custody at the River Valley Justice Center. He has not been identified due to his age. The victim has also not been identified. Diddy Trial: Cassie's Friend Testifies Diddy Dangled Her Over Balcony
A friend of Sean 'Diddy' Combs' ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura testified on Wednesday that Combs once dangled her over a 17th-floor balcony during a 2016 altercation and that he threatened to 'kill' her on another occasion, while also describing Combs' alleged violence toward Ventura. Ventura's friend Bryana 'Bana' Bongolan took the stand Wednesday, testifying Combs held her over a 17-story apartment balcony in 2016 during an altercation in Ventura's presence, after which he threw Bongolan on a table, causing her to sustain bruises and neck pain. Bongolan said she still suffers 'night terrors and paranoia' as a result of the balcony incident, CNN reported. In another incident at a photoshoot in 2016, Bongolan testified Combs came up to her and said, 'I'm the devil and I could kill you,' stating she did not know why he said that and theorized he may have been on drugs. Bongolan testified she saw multiple violent altercations between Combs and Ventura, describing an incident when she was asleep at Ventura's apartment and she was awakened by Combs banging at the door, who threw a knife at Ventura after entering, whom Bongolan said threw the knife back, CNN reported. Bongolan testified she sometimes saw Ventura with injuries, including a black eye, and said she initially hesitated to meet Combs after becoming friends with Ventura because she thought their relationship was 'volatile,' the Washington Post reported. Bongolan's testimony, including the balcony and knife incidents, mirror allegations she made in a lawsuit she filed against Combs in November 2024. Before Bongolan began testimony, forensic video expert Frank Piazza took the stand, testifying about the surveillance footage that captured Combs attacking Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel in 2016. Piazza testified he believes the surveillance footage, first published by CNN last year, accurately depicts the altercation between Ventura and Combs. Combs' legal team previously alleged CNN 'substantially altered' the footage, which CNN denied. The video was played multiple times for jurors, who have seen the video played several times during previous testimony so far in the trial. Piazza also testified he enhanced 10 'sex videos' recorded between 2012 and 2014 that were retrieved from a laptop Ventura turned over to the government, which were submitted as evidence and may later be shown to jurors, the New York Times reported. Bongolan filed a lawsuit against Combs in November 2024, alleging she was asleep in Ventura's Los Angeles apartment in 2016 when Combs woke her up by banging on the door and shouting. Her lawsuit states Combs entered the apartment and advanced on Bongolan, lifting her by her underarms and holding her over Ventura's 17th-floor balcony, stating, 'Do you know what the f— you did? Do you know what the f— you did?' while Ventura screamed at him to stop. 'The only purpose of dangling someone over a balcony is to actually kill them or to intentionally terrorize them and rob them of any concept of dominion over their own bodily autonomy and safety,' Bongolan's lawsuit states. Elsewhere in her lawsuit, Bongolan alleges she witnessed 'disturbing signs of an abusive relationship' by Combs toward Ventura, stating she sometimes saw Ventura with visible bruises and that she once witnessed an altercation in which Combs 'threw a large kitchen knife at Ms. Ventura, who, acting in self-defense, threw one back at him.' Combs denied the allegations in Bongolan's suit. 'Jane' is the pseudonym of a woman prosecutors say was sex trafficked by Combs, who is referred to as 'Victim-2' in the indictment. Ventura, who is referred to as 'Victim-1,' and 'Mia,' the pseudonym of 'Victim-4,' have both already testified. The indictment alleges Combs used 'force, threats of force, and coercion, to cause victims,' including Jane, 'to engage in commercial sex acts.' During her opening statement last month, prosecutor Emily A. Johnson described Jane as a single mother who began dating Combs in 2020, two years after Ventura left him. Johnson said Jane participated in a 'freak-off' thinking it would be a one-time thing to please Combs, though he expected more and discouraged her from working by paying her rent so she would always be available. Johnson described an altercation in which Combs became enraged at Jane after they clashed about him seeing another woman, during which he allegedly 'grabbed her in a chokehold, lifted her off the ground by her neck and kicked her to the ground,' the New York Times reported. Combs' defense lawyer Teny Geragos said during her opening statement Jane consented to their sexual encounters, stating a 'capable, strong woman, willingly engaged in their relationship,' which she said is 'not sex trafficking,' the Times reported. Ventura, who dated Combs on-and-off for about a decade, testified for much of the trial's first week, alleging Combs coerced her into 'freak-off' sexual encounters with male escorts, which she says left her in physical and mental pain. She also described various instances of physical abuse and accused Combs of raping her in 2018. Rapper Kid Cudi took the stand in May alleging Combs broke into his house and that his car was firebombed in his driveway in 2012 after Combs discovered he was dating Ventura. Mia, a former personal assistant to Combs, took the stand last week, alleging Combs repeatedly sexually assaulted her and subjected her to physical abuse while she worked for him. Combs is charged with two counts of sex trafficking, two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution and one count of racketeering conspiracy. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Separately, Combs faces dozens of civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault and sex trafficking, all of which he has denied.
