Patrick Mahomes reveals secret ingredient that makes his marriage to wife Brittany work
While the Chiefs quarterback and three-time Super Bowl winner has had a historic start to his NFL career, Brittany was formerly an athlete in her own right as well as the pair attended Whitehouse High School together.
The now mom-of-three starred as a soccer player at the Texas school and later went on to play collegiately at the University of Texas at Tyler. She even played professionally for one season in Iceland.
And while her soccer (playing) career is now over, her husband recognizes that their shared competitiveness is a major boon for their marriage.
'There's no better feeling than having someone by your side who is just as competitive as you and supports you in everything you do,' the quarterback told People.
He added of their time together in high school: 'Whether it was her in soccer or me in football or baseball, we both understood the level of commitment it takes.'
Aside from raising their three children together, Brittany and Patrick have also teamed up as co-owners of NWSL team the KC Current, who debuted last March.
The couple welcomed their most recent child, Golden Raye, back in January, and Patrick recently beamed about how his wife handled the pregnancy of the couple's second daughter.
'Brittany crushed it. I was watching playoff games the entire day. She went to labor after one game,' Patrick Mahomes recalled in a clip of new ESPN documentary 'The Kingdom' which aired on the latest episode of 'Good Morning America.'
'Baby was here before the next game, so I didn't even miss a playoff game. So, she is as locked in as I am as far as football goes.'
The couple welcomed their first child, Sterling Skye, in 2021 before their son, Patrick III ('Bronze') was born the following year.
Brittany and Patrick also got married in March 2022 after his Chiefs lost to the Bengals in the AFC Championship.
Back in July, the family-of-five enjoyed some time together in Mexico ahead of yet another grueling NFL season.
In one photo, a beaming Mahomes sat alongside his wife and their children on the couch of their vacation home in one of the pictures and held Golden Raye up for the photo.
In another, the Chiefs passer was seen holding hands with Bronze as they walked down a path on the holiday resort.
Mahomes is now back training with the Chiefs as they prepare for their first game of the season on September 5.
He played sparingly in Kansas City's preseason opener against the Cardinals last week, and did not appear against the Seahawks on Friday.

Iga Swiatek tells cameraman to stop filming her as Wimbledon champion removed clothes on court at Cincinnati Open
Iga Swiatek instructed a camera operator to stop filming her as she prepared to change clothes during her Cincinnati Open semi-final with Elena Rybakina. Swiatek earned a straight sets 7-5, 6-3 victory as the Wimbledon champion set up a final against Italy's Jasmine Paolini. The Polish star won four straight games to fight back from 5-3 down to win the opening set of the match after 45 minutes. After battling back, Swiatek walked over to her bench and looked to cool down amid the heat in Cincinnati. Swiatek was seen removing her hat, before she waved and then wagged her finger at a camera operator. The gestures appeared to be a request to be given space and privacy as she prepared to change. Iga Swiatek requested a camera operator step back as she changed on court after the first set The camera was then pulled way from Swiatek, as the world No 3 prepared to removed her top and put on new clothing ahead of the second second. Swiatek would ultimately claim an impressive victory over Rybakina to reach the final of the WTA 1000 event for the first time. The former World No 1 has reached finals in three of her last four tournaments, which included claiming a maiden Wimbledon title. Along with the Cincinnati Open title, Swiatek could receive a major boost for the US Open if she beats Paolini in Monday night's final. Victory would see Swiatek climb above Coco Gauff to second in the world rankings and would be the second seed for the US Open, behind Aryna Sabalenka. The trio have won the women's singles title over the past three years, with Sabalenka winning last year's tournament. Gauff triumphed in 2023, while Swiatek was crowned champion in 2022.

Report: Bobby Webster absorbs Raptors' team president duties
August 18 - The Toronto Raptors are adding president of basketball operations duties onto the plate of general manager Bobby Webster, ESPN reported Monday. Webster will continue to serve as the team's GM as well. Webster, 40, takes over the team's top front office role from Masai Ujiri, who was fired on June 27. Ujiri hired Webster in 2013 as the team's vice president of strategy. A native of Hawaii, Webster was hired by the NBA in 2006 and advised teams on salary cap and luxury tax details. He remained with the league until moving to the Raptors. In June of 2017, Webster was promoted to Raptors general manager in place of Jeff Weltman. He was the NBA's youngest general manager at the time at age 32, and two seasons later, the franchise won its lone NBA title. Toronto has made the playoffs just twice since winning the championship in 2019 and has not advanced to the postseason in any of the past three seasons. The Raptors finished 30-52 last season, slightly better than their 25-57 mark in 2023-24 under head coach Darko Rajakovic. --Field Level Media
