Riding on a blistering fifties from Mitch Owen and
Andries Gous
Washington Freedom powered to their fourth straight win in the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025, chasing down Texas Super Kings' (TSK) 220/6 with two balls to spare and climbing to second on the points table.
Owen and Rachin Ravindra gave Freedom a flying start, striking five boundaries in the first eight balls. Though Ravindra fell inside the powerplay, Owen capitalised on an early life — dropped on 20 in the third over — to punish TSK.
Despite the aggressive start, Freedom were behind the asking rate at 72/1 after eight overs. Another drop — this time on 42 in the ninth — followed by a no-ball allowed Owen to unleash. He smacked Marcus Stoinis for back-to-back sixes and helped shift momentum.
The decisive moment came in the 12th over when Noor Ahmad conceded 22 runs, followed by a brutal 24-run over off Donovan Ferreira by Gous. Stoinis briefly pulled things back with a tidy over and Owen's dismissal on 89 gave TSK a glimmer of hope. But Gous and
Glenn Maxwell
kept their cool, launching late blows to bring the target within reach. Glenn Phillips eventually struck the winning boundary through backward point in the penultimate over.

Gous remained unbeaten on 80—his highest score in MLC.
Earlier,
Faf du Plessis
smashed 69 off 31 balls to anchor TSK's innings after they were asked to bat. He and Smit Patel raced to 55 inside five overs. While TSK received steady contributions down the order, a sluggish middle phase — especially against Maxwell, who took 2 for 35 — hurt them. Owen chipped in with three wickets before starring with the bat. A late cameo of 36 off 14 balls from Calvin Savage and Shubham Ranjane pushed TSK to a competitive 220.
Brief Scores
Texas Super Kings:
220/6 in 20 overs (Faf du Plessis 69, Marcus Stoinis 32; Mitch Owen 3/33, Glenn Maxwell 2/35)
Washington Freedom:
223/3 in 19.4 overs (Mitch Owen 89, Andries Gous 80*; Adam Milne 3/42)

Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski announces one-day deal to retire in New England

Rob Gronkowski to retire as a Patriot with one-day contract (Image via Getty) Rob Gronkowski may have walked away from football three years ago, but he's making sure his NFL story ends where it began in Foxborough. The legendary tight end revealed that he plans to sign a one-day contract with the New England Patriots so he can officially retire with the team that made him a household name. Team owner Robert Kraft has already given the green light, meaning Patriots Nation could soon be celebrating Gronk one more time. Rob Gronkowski says he wants to retire a Patriot in true Foxborough fashion Speaking at the opening of the 'Gronk Playground' in Boston, Gronkowski dropped the news that he's been talking with Robert Kraft about signing a symbolic one-day deal to retire with the Patriots. He even noted that he'd be doing it in honor of Susan Hurley, a close friend who is battling stage-4 cancer. — patsplanetmedia (@patsplanetmedia) 'I've always been a Patriot at heart, and I'd love to make it official with Mr. Kraft,' Gronkowski said. Kraft, in turn, confirmed he'd be thrilled to make it happen, cementing one more legendary Patriot moment. Why one-day contracts matter for NFL legends For those wondering why a one-day contract matters when Gronk already retired, here's the deal, it's a symbolic gesture that allows stars to officially go out with the team most tied to their legacy. Other legends from Jerry Rice to Frank Gore have done the same. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More For Patriots fans, it means Gronk's retirement story closes exactly the way it should, in New England colors, not Tampa Bay red. Before his brief comeback with Tom Brady in Tampa, Gronkowski built one of the greatest tight end résumés in NFL history with New England. He won three Super Bowls in Foxborough, made five Pro Bowls, and stacked up over 7,800 receiving yards and 79 touchdowns as Brady's go-to target. While no official date has been set, both Gronkowski and Kraft are on board, meaning it's only a matter of time before the one-day contract becomes reality. Patriots fans are already buzzing on social media, dreaming of a Foxborough ceremony that would celebrate one of the greatest players in team history. Gronk has always been larger than life, and this move makes his farewell just as fitting, going out as a Patriot, exactly where it all started. Awkward exchange: Reporter questions Myles Garrett on speeding over 100 mph, he refuses to answer

(Image via Getty) NFL pressers usually bring the usual clichés about 'focusing on the next game' or 'playing as a team.' But Cleveland Browns superstar Myles Garrett got a very different question this week, one that left the room buzzing. Instead of talking about sacks or training camp, a reporter bluntly asked Garrett what it feels like to watch the speedometer hit triple digits while driving over 100 mph. Garrett's answer? A firm shutdown that's now going viral. The reporter's blunt question about speeding caught everyone off guard During media availability, one reporter skipped football entirely and went straight for Garrett's off-field headlines. The exact question was: 'What is it like to be in that car and seeing that speedometer creeping up to more than 100 miles an hour?' The question referenced Garrett's recent speeding citation, when he was clocked at 100 in a 60 mph zone, his eighth speeding-related incident in the last eight years. It was an unusually direct line to take in a presser, and it immediately became the moment everyone was talking about. Garrett didn't entertain the scenario or laugh it off. Instead, he quickly made it clear that the conversation wasn't going there. 'I'd honestly rather talk about football and this team than anything I'm doing off the field — other than the back-to-school event that I did the other day,' Garrett responded. When the reporter tried to press further, Garrett doubled down: 'You're asking the same question, and I've answered it two different times. I'm going to need you to ask a different question so I can focus on this team and not this headline you're trying to get out of this question that you're asking.' It was a calm but sharp clapback, and the message was crystal clear, football only. Myles Garrett's speeding history continues to follow him The question didn't come out of nowhere. Garrett has developed a history with traffic violations that reporters haven't forgotten. Just last month, he was cited for going 100 mph in a 60 mph zone. Back in 2022, he was involved in a scary single-car crash where police confirmed excessive speed was a factor. In total, Garrett has racked up eight speeding citations since entering the league, making his driving habits an unavoidable storyline. The Browns star didn't take the bait, even when pressed, and instead emphasized his commitment to the team and the season ahead. Still, the viral clip proves that no matter how much Garrett wants to leave his driving record in the rearview, questions about speeding are likely to keep chasing him down. Vancouver Canucks cool off interest in NHL free agent Jack Roslovic amid search for center depth

AP/Adrian Kraus The Vancouver Canucks appear to be moving on from NHL free agent Jack Roslovic, who remains one of the top unsigned players on the market. Despite discussions last month, the Canucks have reportedly cooled off on pursuing the 28-year-old forward, according to The Athletic's Thomas Drance. Instead, the organization is shifting its focus toward securing a long-term solution down the middle via the trade market. NHL free agent Jack Roslovic no longer a top target for Vancouver Canucks The Canucks had been linked to Roslovic multiple times over the past two offseasons, including last summer before he signed a one-year, $2.8 million contract with the Carolina Hurricanes. That deal proved successful for the forward, as he matched his career-high with 22 goals in 81 games while playing more minutes at center than in prior seasons. However, despite his proven offensive ability and versatility, Vancouver's front office appears to be prioritizing a more permanent addition to their lineup. The team wants stability behind star Elias Pettersson and the talented but injury-prone Filip Chytil. Drance reported that the Canucks would be willing to execute a trade immediately if it brought back a credible middle-six center, even one with a defensive focus. Jack Roslovic's NHL free agency outlook and market value in 2025 offseason For Roslovic, the timing is becoming increasingly difficult. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman noted earlier this month that at least five teams had legitimate interest, but the market has since tightened. With training camps approaching, most unsigned players are limited to one-year contracts or professional tryout (PTO) opportunities. Originally projected by AFP Analytics to land a three-year deal worth over $4 million annually, Roslovic may now be forced to accept another short-term pact closer to his last year's value of $2.8 million. At 28 years old, he still brings top-nine upside, speed, and offensive consistency, but teams are reluctant to commit long-term this late in the offseason. While Jack Roslovic remains one of the most intriguing names available in free agency, the Vancouver Canucks are no longer a likely destination. With their attention turning to the trade market for center depth, Roslovic's options are narrowing. Unless a team steps forward with a multi-year offer, the skilled forward may once again need to prove his value on a short-term deal.
