
Yoga Day to be celebrated at Mysuru Palace Grounds on June 21
Mysuru: The International Yoga Day will be celebrated with grandeur at the Mysuru Palace Grounds on June 21.
Presiding over a preparatory meeting, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) P Shivaraju emphasised the need for systematic and comprehensive arrangements to ensure the success of the event.
Recognising Mysuru's global reputation as a hub for yoga, the ADC stated that around 15,000 yoga practitioners are expected to participate. The event will be held per govt protocols.
Participants have been instructed to wear T-shirts and track pants and to bring their yoga mats. A rehearsal session will be conducted on June 15 for those interested in a preparatory run. Representatives and students, yoga associations, various yoga training centres, NCC, NSS, and other educational institutions are expected to participate.
Shivaraju directed officials to ensure the provision of essential amenities, including ambulances, fire services, drinking water, and proper sanitation. The Mysuru City Corporation has been tasked with ensuring cleanliness and a steady water supply at the venue. KSRTC will arrange transportation for participants, and the Palace Board will provide space and volunteers to manage the crowd efficiently.
Srihari of Yoga Foundation of Mysuru said, "Last year there were nearly 10,000 participants, and this year we are targeting 15,000 people. Under the guidance of ADC Shivaraju and Ayush officer, the preparation was planned well in advance. The event was meticulously planned. For all the participants, we have arranged breakfast." Participation certificates will be distributed, and officials were urged to give wide publicity to the event to encourage public involvement.
On the occasion, Shivaraju also released the promotional material for Yoga Day. DDPI Javaregowda and Ayush officer Renuka Devi were also present.

Delhi govt steps up prep for Yoga Day on June 21
Delhi education minister Ashish Sood on Saturday announced that Delhi government is preparing for a grand celebration of the 11th International Yoga Day on June 21 marking which events will be held simultaneously at 11 major stadiums and sports complexes across the city. Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Delhi Secretariat, Sood said over 20,000 participants, including students and teachers from Delhi government schools, NSS/NCC cadets, yoga instructors, and civil defence volunteers, will take part in the celebrations. 'The main event will be held at Chhatrasal Stadium, where over 10,000 participants will perform yoga under the guidance of 5,000 volunteers from Bharatiya Yog Sansthan. Other key locations include Thyagaraj Stadium, East Vinod Nagar Sports Complex, Jhilmil Colony, Bawana, Najafgarh Stadium, and Dwarka Sector-6, among others. A minister will be assigned to supervise each venue,' said Sood. Sood said the initiative aims to foster physical and mental well-being, especially among students and the broader community. 'Participants will be provided with T-shirts, refreshments, water, and yoga mats. Each venue will also be equipped with essential facilities including medical aid, fire safety arrangements, mobile toilets, sanitation services, and reliable electricity and water supply. To ensure safety and smooth coordination, Delhi Police will manage security and traffic, with CCTV surveillance, colour-coded parking passes, and designated emergency services in place. District Magistrates have been tasked with handling local logistics such as transportation, refreshment distribution, and outreach to schools, colleges, and community leaders,' Sood said.

Bend it for body: Delhi to host Yoga events at 11 sites
New Delhi: Education minister Ashish Sood on Saturday said Delhi govt would, for the first time, officially host International Yoga Day on June 21 by organising events at 11 different locations. Reviewing the preparations for the Yoga Day celebrations and the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0 campaign, the minister said the celebrations would be held at 11 stadiums and sports complexes across the city, including Chhatrasal and Thyagaraj stadiums. "The primary objective of this initiative is to promote physical and mental wellness while encouraging the practice of yoga among students, teachers and the community. Nearly 20,000 participants are expected to join, including students and teachers from Delhi govt schools, yoga instructors, NSS and NCC cadets, and civil defence volunteers," Sood said. The minister said Chhatrasal Stadium would be the main venue, where around 10,000 participants would engage in yoga practice, supported by 5,000 volunteers from Bharatiya Yog Sansthan. Each of the other 10 venues will host approximately 1,000 participants. All participants will be provided with T-shirts, water, refreshments and yoga mats. Each venue will be equipped with medical facilities, ambulances, fire safety arrangements, mobile toilets, sanitation, fogging, electricity and water supply, he added. Delhi Police will handle security and traffic management. Speaking of the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0 campaign, the minister described it as a unique initiative combining environmental protection with honouring motherhood. As part of this campaign, chief minister Rekha Gupta will plant a sapling at Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya in Shalimar Bagh on June 9. "The campaign supports Government of India's target of planting 10 crore (100 million) saplings. Complementing this, Delhi govt aims to plant 3.7 lakh saplings in 2025-26, including 1 lakh trees, 2 lakh shrubs and 70,000 bamboo plants in schools, near main roads and in large parks," Sood said.
