‘Buying foreign products aids terrorism': Yogi urges spending on swadeshi

Time of Indiaa day ago
Agra: Chief minister
Yogi Adityanath
during a public meeting in Aligarh on Tuesday appealed to the gathering to promote swadeshi (indigenous) products, especially during festivals and celebrations, cautioning that money spent on foreign goods could end up in the hands of terrorists and anti-national forces.
"If we buy local products, the money goes to our artisans and craftsmen, strengthening the nation. But if it goes abroad, it can be used for terrorism, conversion, and creating anarchy," he said, urging people to be mindful while making purchases. Earlier in the day, the CM had held a meeting with public representatives from the Aligarh division.
He noted that before 2017, markets in UP were flooded with Chinese goods, but the one district one product (ODOP) scheme introduced in the state in 2018 brought local products to the forefront, generating jobs and boosting artisan livelihoods.
Emphasising on the economic potential of local industries, including Aligarh's lock-making sector, Yogi said, "When our artisans work with dedication, their earnings bring prosperity not only to their families but also to the wider community. This prosperity strengthens the market and contributes to the nation's development. When we purchase foreign-made products, its profit goes into foreign hands; these funds may be used for terrorism, conversion, love jihad, and Naxal activities.

We witnessed such exploitation before independence, and we continue to see it even today."
Yogi urged people to make cleanliness a way of life and to keep villages, towns, and cities clean. "Apart from the govt and administration, the participation of the public is essential in maintaining cleanliness. If we stop throwing garbage onto roads and drains, cleanliness will be maintained automatically."
The CM also launched 186 development projects worth Rs 957 crore during a public rally held at Numaish Maidan in Aligarh.
He laid the foundation for 103 projects worth Rs 500 crore and inaugurated 83 completed projects worth Rs 457 crore.
He also distributed computer tablets to students, Ayushman Bharat cards to beneficiaries, and symbolic house keys under the PM Awas Yojana. Under the CM Yuva Udyami Scheme, cheques were distributed to youth from Aligarh, Etah, Hathras, and Kasganj. Over Rs 20.7 crore in revolving funds and credit limits were approved for 2,695 SHG groups under the National Rural Livelihood Mission.

Over Rs 1cr compensation for triple rider who suffered 100% disability in accident

Panchkula: In a landmark ruling, the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal in Panchkula has awarded a compensation of ₹1.17 crore to a 36-year-old man who suffered 100% disability after a horrific road accident while triple riding on a two-wheeler. The tribunal, presided over by District and Sessions Judge Ved Parkash Sirohi, held the car's driver, owner, and insurer jointly liable for the payout. The victim is also entitled to 6% annual interest on the compensation amount from the date of filing the claim until its realization. The accident occurred in the early hours of April 28, 2024, when Arun Madan was riding an Activa with Veer and Sitaram as pillion passengers. As they approached the Kalka-Shimla highway, a car driven recklessly by Amrinder Singh Dhiman of Sangrur allegedly came from the wrong side and rammed into the scooter. All three riders were injured, and the vehicle was badly damaged. Amrinder transported the injured to Civil Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula. While Veer and Sitaram were discharged after first aid, Arun was referred to GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh, but was instead taken to Alchemist Hospital, Sector 21, Panchkula. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Woman sells ring given by ex, then jeweler tells her 'This can't be true' Daily Sport X Undo The police registered a case against the car driver under relevant IPC sections at Pinjore police station. Arun, who was employed as an assistant manager in a Baddi-based firm earning ₹78,739 per month, suffered severe head injuries and is now bedridden. His medical expenses alone amounted to ₹12 lakh. Arun filed a claim of ₹2 crore, citing permanent disability and loss of livelihood. The car's driver and owner denied the accident, alleging collusion with police. The insurer, New India Assurance Co. Ltd., argued that the accident was caused by the negligence of the Activa rider, who was triple riding without a valid license. However, the tribunal found Veer—a key eyewitness and FIR author—credible. Supporting documents, including medical records and mechanical reports, further strengthened Arun's case.

PO on the mic: Singer who called govt house a jail busted after 10 years

1 2 Chandigarh: Declared a proclaimed offender in 2016, Sirsa resident Jagsir Singh evaded police for nine years by constantly changing his location and identity. However, his run ended with a dramatic revelation on Wednesday — he is Punjabi singer Baaz Sran, who just two months ago released a song likening a 'Sarkari Kothi' (govt residence) to a jail. In an irony of sorts, the lyrics of the song 'Sarkari Kothi' — which has 13 lakh views on YouTube — go: 'Jattan di sarkari kothi hundi jail kuddey (The official residence of Jatts is jail, lady).' Sran, who has 32,600 followers on Instagram and has sung duets with female singers like Deepak Dhillon and Gurlez Akhtar, was arrested by the Chandigarh zonal unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in connection with the alleged seizure of 36kg opium in 2015. Sran hails from Malikpura village in Haryana's Sirsa district. An official privy to the case said Baaz himself penned the lyrics and composed his songs. In May 2025, NCB published Jagsir's details in leading newspapers and announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for information leading to his arrest. Based on inputs received thereafter, he was arrested on Wednesday, the NCB said in a statement. The statement added: "During his absconding period, he gained popularity as a singer on social media platforms like YouTube and Instagram, amassing millions of views under a different identity. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Learn More - How Donating Plasma May Boost Your Income SpellRock Undo " At the time of his arrest, Sran was accompanied by a woman, said an official. The official added that a co-accused in the opium seizure had already been convicted. The official added that though Sran had was facing a drug seizure case, he did not consume them. "He is a fitness freak. He had just finished running and was exercising when we nabbed him. While he was involved in the drugs case and promotes drugs and weapons in the songs, he himself does not consume drugs," added the official. 'Sarkari Kothi': A song about life of crime In the song 'Sarkari Kothi', Baaz Sran has also penned lyrics about facing charges under the Arms Act and an 'attempt to murder' charge against him. The lyrics go: "25, 54, 59 laggi naal 307 de ni, jail diyaan baahlian likhiyaan karman vich jatt de di (I have been charged with sections 25, 54 and 59, along with Section 307. A long stay in jail is written in Jatt's fate)."
