Auction For Caitlin Clark Rookie Card Proves She's A Generational Talent
Caitlin Clark doesn't need to be on the hardwood to send basketball fans into a frenzy
Unfortunately, Clark has been sidelined since July 15 due to a groin injury. The Indiana Fever announced this week that there's no timetable for her return. It's possible her absence will linger for a whole since the team's priority is "her long-term health and well-being."
On Thursday night, the Fever defeated the las Vegas Aces without Clark. They received strong performances from Kelsey Mitchell, Natasha Howard, Sophie Cunningham and Aliyah Boston.
While the Fever were taking on the Aces on Thursday night, Fanatics held its Collect's July Premier Auction. There was a one-of-one Caitlin Clark card that received a few very generous bids.
When the dust settled, a fan of the Iowa legend bid $660,00 on a 2024 Rookie Royalty WNBA Flawless Logowoman. That makes it the most expensive card of any female athlete.
Just to put Clark's popularity and potential into perspective, the previous record for highest-selling women's sports card was $366,000. That was the final price for Clark's 2024 Panini Prizm WNBA Signatures Gold Vinyl Prizm card.

Another Clark card, also from Panini's recent Rookie Royalty WNBA release, might challenge the newly set record. A 1-of-1 numbered, autographed Clark Logowoman currently sits at $219,600 (with buyer's premium) at Goldin Auctions and is due to enter extended bidding Aug. 9.
Suffice to say, Clark is in a league of her own when it comes to popularity for women's athletes.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Bubba Wallace became the first Black driver to win on Indianapolis Motor Speedway's 2.5-mile oval, surviving a late rain delay, two overtimes, concerns over running out of fuel and a hard-charging Kyle Larson on Sunday in the Brickyard 400. The third NASCAR Cup victory of Wallace's career was also his biggest. It snapped a 100-race winless streak that dated to 2022 at Kansas. He also won at Talladega in 2021. But after beating Larson through the second turn, a crash behind the leaders forced a second overtime, extending the race even more laps as Wallace's team thought he might run out of gas. Wallace risked everything by staying on the track then beat the defending race winner off the restart again to prevent Larson from becoming the fourth back-to-back winner of the Brickyard. It also alleviated the frustration Wallace felt Saturday when he spent most of the qualifying session on the provisional pole only to see Chase Briscoe surpass with one of the last runs in the session. He made sure there was no repeat Sunday, giving an added boost to the 23XI Racing co-owned by basketball Hall of Famer Michael Jordan and last week's race winner, Denny Hamlin, as it continues to battle NASCAR in court over its charter status. ___ AP auto racing:
