Naseeruddin Shah Called 'Anti-Hindu' For Backing Diljit Dosanjh, BJP Leader Slams Actor
Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has landed in the middle of a political firestorm after his social media post in support of Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh triggered strong condemnation from BJP leaders, particularly Maharashtra BJP MLA Ram Kadam. Calling Shah's remarks 'anti-Hindu" and 'deeply insensitive," Kadam demanded a public apology, asserting that Shah had hurt the sentiments of crores of Hindus across the country.
In a post that went viral, Shah stood by Diljit amid a political controversy regarding his recently released movie 'Sardaar Ji 3', and criticised what he called the 'dirty tricks department of the Jumla Party." Taking to his Facebook handle, the actor penned a note supporting Diljit Dosanjh in which he stated that the star was not responsible for casting Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in the movie.
'He was not responsible for the casting of the film, the director was. But no one knows who he is whereas Diljit is known the world over, and he agreed to the cast because his mind is not poisoned," the veteran actor added.
He defended Diljit's global reputation and condemned attempts to malign him. He also expressed solidarity with people of Pakistan and said he would continue to meet his friends there, concluding his post with a jibe: 'My response to those who will say 'Go to Pakistan' is — 'Go to Kailasa'".
Reacting sharply, BJP leader Ram Kadam, addressing the media in Mumbai on Tuesday, questioned the intent behind Shah's comparison. 'Who told you to go to Pakistan? Kailasa is our sacred land, it is Shiv Bhoomi, a place of Sanatan culture. Why is Naseeruddin Shah equating it with Pakistan?" Kadam asked.
He further slammed Shah, stating, 'Has he forgotten the Pahalgam attack? Has he forgotten that Pakistan is India's sworn enemy? Is his love for Pakistan greater than his love for India? Those who lost their families in terror attacks — has he ever spoken for them?"
Calling the statement deeply offensive, Kadam added, 'Naseeruddin Shah has insulted our brave soldiers, he has insulted crores of Hindus and the sanctity of Kailasa. This is nothing but a stunt to stay relevant in the headlines. He must fold his hands and apologise."
Kadam also issued a warning to Diljit Dosanjh, asking him to stay away from those who are against 'Maa Bharti". The controversy is likely to escalate further as political and cultural fault lines deepen ahead of the upcoming BMC elections in Maharashtra.

Calcutta high court grants relief to Padma awardee monk in alleged rape case
Kolkata: The Calcutta high court on Wednesday directed the West Bengal government not to take any immediate action against 2025 Padma Shri awardee monk, Swami Pradiptananda, against whom the Murshidabad district police had filed a first information report (FIR) last week after a local woman accused him of rape, lawyers who were present in court said. Swami Pradiptananda, popularly known as Kartik Maharaj, is head of the Bharat Sevashram Sangha's Beldanga ashram in Murshidabad. Skipping a police summon for interrogation he moved the court on Tuesday, seeking quashing of the FIR. 'The bench of justice Jay Sengupta heard Kartik Maharaj's petition on Wednesday and directed the government not to take any immediate action on the basis of the FIR and wait for the hearing instead,' lawyer Koustav Bagchi, who represented the monk, told HT. Lawyer Sandipan Ganguly, who represented the alleged rape survivor, objected to the appeal for in-camera hearing, saying monks who faced similar charges in the past were tried in open court. Ganguly cited the example of Gujarat's Asaram Bapu. 'Reacting to this, the bench expressed surprise on why the Murshidabad woman did not file any complaint in 13 years,' Bagchi said. The woman has alleged in her complaint lodged at the Lalbagh police station that Swami Pradiptananda raped her repeatedly between 2012 and 2019 by promising her a job. She has alleged that she was forced to undergo an abortion in 2013. The woman has also claimed to have talked to the monk over the phone on June 12 and alleged that two men sent by him threatened her the following day. The monk has shared dais with Bharatiya Janata Party's Bengal leaders such as Suvendu Adhikari several times in recent months. In May 2024, chief minister Mamata Banerjee publicly accused him of helping the BJP in the then ongoing Lok Sabha polls. The monk sent a legal notice to Banerjee, demanding an unconditional apology, but she stuck to her allegations. The ruling Trinamool Congress unleashed a fresh attack on the monk after he moved the high court. Bengal BJP leaders have alleged that the TMC was trying to frame Kartik Maharaj with trumped up charges.

Call for reclaiming India's role as ‘Vishwaguru'
The National Hindu Dharmic Conference held here adopted resolutions aimed at 'safeguarding and revitalising Hindu traditions and temple governance.' The conference, organised by Sadhu Parishad here on Wednesday (July 2), called for the immediate revocation of all controversial Government Orders (G.O.s) that adversely affect temple administration. It was strongly recommended that only religiously committed individuals (Dhārmikas) be appointed to temple trust boards to ensure faith-based leadership. One of the major proposals was to declare Tirupati as a spiritual city, alongside implementing a strict ban on alcohol and meat consumption within its limits. To preserve cultural integrity, the government was urged to extend full protection to Hindu festivals and religious processions. The conference, presided over by Srinivasananda Saraswati Swamiji, adopted another resolution emphasising the need to declare cow as India's national animal and establish goshalas (cow shelters) in every village, preferably on temple land. In addition, barren land should be utilised exclusively for cultivating fodder for cows. Educational reforms were also highlighted, including a call to open new institutions under the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) in every district. Moreover, the TTD was urged to run its own goshalas and to use ghee from those cows in the preparation of laddus, thereby maintaining spiritual purity and self-sufficiency. Additional proposals included government funding for ashram maintenance and the removal of government employees who converted after obtaining employment based on caste reservation. BJP State president P.V.N. Madhav emphasised the need to position Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) as a global spiritual beacon, saying that despite India's immense spiritual wealth, over 80% of the world remains unaware of its dharmic depth. 'India is poised to reclaim its ancient role as 'Vishwaguru', the spiritual guide of the world.' Citing the recent International Yoga Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam, where lakhs of participants chanted 'Om' in unison, Mr. Madhav lauded the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in bringing dharmic consciousness back to the forefront of global discourse. 'Congress not concerned about country's pride': Jyotiraditya Scindia on Rahul's 'surrender' jibe
New Delhi: Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, launched a sharp attack on the Congress party on Wednesday in response to Rahul Gandhi's recent 'Narender Surrender' remark. Union Minister Scindia accused the Congress of undermining India's global standing and questioning the credibility of its armed forces. Speaking to IANS, he said, 'What else is left to say about a political party that has already been rejected by the people of the country? The dignity and respect of the nation should be paramount.' He alleged that the Congress has stooped to a level where it seeks to embarrass India on international platforms and cast doubt on the strength and professionalism of the Indian military. The minister's remarks came in the wake of Rahul Gandhi's criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foreign policy and national security approach. Rahul Gandhi had used the phrase 'Narender Surrender' in reference to the government's handling of border tensions with Pakistan—a phrase that has sparked political controversy in the past. 'It has become clear that the people of India are not concerned about a party that is not concerned about the pride of India.' Operation Sindoor, a recent cross-border counter-terror operation, has been hailed by the government as a demonstration of India's strategic resolve. However, opposition leaders have raised questions about transparency and outcomes, prompting strong rebuttals from BJP leaders. Scindia also criticised Congress leaders for making statements abroad that, he claimed, tarnish India's image. 'Which patriot goes outside the country and brings it down?' he asked, without naming Gandhi directly. The BJP has intensified its counteroffensive against the Congress ahead of the upcoming state elections, framing national pride and security as central campaign themes.
