During a phone call, Abdelatty congratulated Anand on her appointment as a foreign minister, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf.
Abdelatty underscored Egypt's keenness to advance economic and trade ties with Canada, urging Canadian companies to invest in Egypt, particularly in the sectors of energy, agriculture, and water resources.

The phone call took up developments in the Middle East, with Abdelatty briefing Anand on Egypt's efforts to resume the ceasefire in Gaza, ensure the release of hostages and detainees along with facilitating the delivery of humanitarian, relief, and medical aid amid the worsening humanitarian situation there.
He highlighted Egypt's plans to host an international conference on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, once a ceasefire deal reached, the spokesman stated.
Abdelatty called for outlining a political horizon for the Palestinian cause that meets the aspirations of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem (Al Quds city) as its capital.
He further said that both Iran and Israel should comply with the ceasefire, calling for regional and international efforts to consolidate any agreement, reduce tensions and open the door to diplomatic engagement.

Meanwhile, both sides exchanged views on regional issues, including developments in Libya, Sudan, Yemen, and Red Sea security.
For her part, the Canadian foreign minister praised Egypt's constructive efforts to resume the ceasefire in Gaza and promote peace and security in the Middle East, recognizing Egypt as a cornerstone of regional stability. (MENA)

Denmark to Introduce Mandatory Military Service for Women Amid Security Concerns
By Ahmad El-Assasy Denmark has announced a historic expansion of its conscription policy to implement mandatory military service for women, in a strategic move aimed at boosting troop numbers and strengthening national defense amid rising security tensions across Europe. Under legislation passed by the Danish Parliament in June 2023, all women turning 18 after July 1, 2025, will be required to register for assessment days, similar to the existing process for men. These evaluations will determine their eligibility for military service. Until now, military enlistment for women in the Scandinavian nation has been strictly voluntary. Mandatory military service for women In 2024, women accounted for approximately 24% of Denmark's new recruits. The shift toward gender-inclusive mandatory service reflects the government's determination to expand its military capacity as regional threats escalate. 'In the current global climate, we need more conscripts,' said Kathrine, a recruit in Denmark's Royal Life Guards, speaking to Reuters. 'I believe women should contribute equally alongside men.' To accommodate the growing number of female recruits, the Danish Armed Forces are currently updating military camps and equipment to be more gender-inclusive. In addition to including women in the draft, Denmark plans to gradually extend the duration of conscription from the current four months to 11 months by 2026. The total number of conscripts is expected to rise from around 5,000 today to 7,500 by 2033. Why mandatory military service for women in Denmark This move comes shortly after Denmark reaffirmed its commitment to NATO by agreeing to increase its defense spending in coordination with alliance partners. With the new measures, Denmark joins a small group of countries enforcing gender-equal military policies as Europe continues to rethink its security strategies in response to global geopolitical shifts. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence"

Canada condemns Israel's operation in Gaza, joins Egypt in ceasefire call: Ambassador - Foreign Affairs
Canadian Ambassador to Cairo Ulric Shannon affirmed his country's condemnation of Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip and joined Egypt in calling for a ceasefire. He made his remarks during a celebration of Canada's National Day at his residence, held in a festive red-and-white atmosphere. The Ambassador praised Cairo's efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and described relations between Canada and Egypt as "advanced." Ambassador Shannon also expressed his happiness to celebrate National Day in Egypt this year, noting his previous tenure at the Canadian Embassy in Cairo as a third secretary in 2005. "Since I drank from the Nile, I have returned to it again,' he said. He lauded the strong cultural ties uniting the two countries, largely thanks to the large and successful Egyptian community in Canada, which numbers in the hundreds of thousands. The Ambassador highlighted that just two months after he assumed his duties in Cairo, visas were reinstated for Canadians upon entry to Egypt. This move has contributed to an increase in Canadian businesspeople and tourists, as well as an uptick in investment, he noted. Shannon added that Canada hosted the largest economic delegation from Egypt last April. He said that Canada, as the current chair of the G7 for 2025, cooperates closely with Egypt regarding the situation in the Middle East, referring to yesterday's phone call between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. He also highlighted the phone call between Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty and Canadian counterpart, Anita Anand. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:
