Beloved celebrity couple's reality show AXED - despite killer ratings and pair teasing new series

Daily Mail02-05-2025
Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez 's reality show has been axed, despite its killer ratings - and the pair previously teasing that a new series was to come.
Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind The Lens, which followed the couple's lives with their two children behind the scenes, has been cancelled after only two series, The Sun reports.
The radio presenter, 40, and professional dancer, 34, met as co-stars on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017, despite not being dance partners on the show.
But their relationship soon blossomed and they announced they were dating in 2018 - and now they share Mia, five, and Thiago, one.
A spokesperson for UKTV - which owns U&W, the channel the pair's series aired on - said: 'It's been a privilege to make two series of Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind the Lens with Two Rivers Media.
'Gemma and Gorka are both very busy with other projects at the moment, so at this time, there are no current plans for another series, but we look forward to working with them again soon.'
The announcement comes as a shock following Gemma's suggestion in November last year that the reality show would likely return - because it did so well.
When asked if it would return at the Pride of Britain Awards, she told the Express: 'Potentially, yeah.
'We're currently in talks to do it but we keep thinking, "Why do people want to keep watching us doing nothing?"
'But it did really well, it was like the biggest show on their channel so possibly.'
The fly-on-the-wall programme promised to 'follow the unfiltered lives of actress and radio presenter Gemma Atkinson and professional dancer Gorka Marquez' when it hit our screens in August 2023.
The first series, which had just three episodes, primarily followed Gemma's pregnancy with their son Thiago.
Fans saw Gorka try to balance his dance tour with preparations for his son's arrival - and were even let into the couple's baby shower, before Thiago's arrival in the final episode.
The programme was a smash hit, returning for a second series in May last year - focussing this time on how they were adjusting to life as a family of four, across six episodes.

The couple said at the time: 'We're excited to be back on your screens for our second series.
'The messages we received, and are still receiving from the first series, have blown us away.
'We're glad so many families can relate to ours and the crazy, wonderful, and exhausting world of parenthood!'
Gemma rose to fame on Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks and its various spin-offs before roles in BBC medical drama Casualty and rival ITV soap Emmerdale.
She made the move into presenting in 2017, taking the drivetime slot on Hits Radio.
The Greater Manchester-born star was partnered with Aljaz Skorjanec when she appeared on Strictly that same year, making it all the way to final.
She hit it off with Gorka backstage and the couple welcomed their daughter Mia in July 2019, getting engaged two years later, on Valentine's Day 2021.
They appeared as dance partners on the Strictly Christmas Special in 2019, dancing a jive to I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus and coming runners-up to Debbie McGee and her partner Kevin Clifton.

It comes after the devastating news yesterday that another Strictly star's TV programme has been axed, with ITV cancelling Chris McCausland's chat show in a move away from the studio interview format.
The comedian, 47, landed his own programme The Chris McCausland Show, which aired on Saturday mornings at 8:30am on ITV from June last year.
The programme saw Chris - who is blind due to retinitis pigmentosa - interviewing a number of famous faces including Celebrity Big Brother's Donna Preston, singer Pixie Lott, funnyman Rob Beckett and actress Taj Atwell.
But after just one series, it has been shelved, despite the popularity of the Strictly winner, who won the show with dance partner Dianne Buswell last year.
A source told the Sun: 'ITV appears to be moving away from studio-based chat shows in their weekend schedule.
'In the last number of years they've invested heavily in their daytime programmes and have given new faces an opportunity to shine.
'Chris was a breath of a fresh air, but ultimately there are no plans for his show to return.'
ITV's description of the show said: 'This 11-episode series will feature a brilliant line-up of celebrity guests and will be packed with humour, insights and inevitable shenanigans.
'Chris will immerse his guests in his audio world with interactive games that will have viewers of all ages laughing and playing along at home.
'And to top it all off, he'll have live acoustic performances that will be the soundtrack of your weekend.'
Fans of the show will be happy to know that all 11 episodes are available to watch on ITVX.

Katie Price's ex Alex Reid is 'spearheading a campaign' to take her down

Katie Price's ex-husband of one year Alex Reid is speaking out against the former glamour model in an incredibly dramatic fashion days after Peter Andre did the same. The mum-of-five, 47, started dating Alex hot off the heels from her split with Mysterious Girl hitmaker Peter, and they tied the knot in a Las Vegas ceremony in 2010. However, after just a year of marriage Alex and Katie called it quits. After Peter posted a shock statement on social media days ago accusing Katie of peddling lies for 16 years, Alex is taking a similar step and has announced he is 'spearheading a campaign' against her. 'Over the years you've seen countless stories by Katie Price directed at me, Peter Andre, Kieran Hayler, and others,' he said in a video posted on social media this evening. 'I am spearheading a campaign to expose the truth. This isn't about gossip, it's about evidence. It isn't about rumour, it's about reality. 'After years of silence the time has finally come to reveal all. This is bigger than one person. It's about honesty, accountability, and supporting those that have been silenced. 'The time for speculation is over. The truth will now be seen and heard.' This comes after a report yesterday that Katie is planning on releasing a three-part personal documentary to coincide with the 30-year anniversary of her becoming one of The Sun's page 3 models. A source told The Mirror that Alex and Kieran Hayler – who was with Katie from 2013 to March 2021 – are teaming up with lawyers to block her from featuring them on the show. A source told The Mirror: 'They feel like they have been backed into a corner and have no choice. 'They just want her to stop trashing them, and can't believe she is being given a platform.' Another source, close to Kieran, said that 'enough is enough' and the men are just looking to move on with their lives but 'can't trust anything' that Katie says. A spokesman for Kieran added: 'We are keeping all our options open. I can confirm Alex Reid is on the same page.' The outlet reported that they have been in contact via an intermediary over the documentary, which is being made by Louis Theroux's production company Mindhouse. It's due to be aired by Sky but lawyers for the pair are said to be urging the broadcaster to reconsider. Last week Kieran – who is dad to Katie's youngest kids Bunny, 11, and Jett, 12 – issued a public apology to Princess after she admitted: 'I wish I could have had a happier childhood.' Meanwhile, days ago Peter spoke out on Instagram with a cutting statement about his ex-wife Katie, who he met on I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here in 2004. 'For sixteen years, I have stayed silent in the face of repeated lies from my ex-wife and her family, out of respect for my children and loved ones, but staying silent has been incredibly frustrating. That ends today,' Peter said. He continued: 'The latest comments about my children's welfare and living arrangements compel me to set the record straight. 'For well-documented reasons, and for their safety, Junior and Princess came into my care in 2018 and remained with me until they reached adulthood. 'In 2019, the family courts issued a legally binding order to enforce this arrangement. I have never made this public before, out of respect for my children. More Trending 'In 2011 and 2015, publicly documented court cases, found my ex-wife had made false claims. She was ordered to pay substantial damages and legal costs, and to apologise, to me and my management. The same falsehoods are being repeated today. 'Unfortunately, there are many more lies and baseless accusations I have yet to address. Those will now be dealt with in the coming months.' In a statement to Metro, Katie's representative said in response: 'Kate is in a much better and clear headspace and is at peace with the situation, this was in the past and she doesn't feel the need to bring up tit for tat comments, but more importantly she's dealing with this the right way and it's now in her lawyers hands. 'Kate will no longer be gaslighted and bullied as she once was…' Got a story? Strictly Come Dancing star Chris Robshaw ready to quit BBC show over crazed stalker

Strictly Come Dancing star Chris Robshaw has told pals he would quit the show "without hesitation" if his stalking hell got worse and put wife Camilla and their kids at risk Rugby ace Chris Robshaw informed the police before his own family that he was considering signing up for Strictly Come Dancing after being targeted by a female stalker. The former England rugby star, 39, called in the cops after the woman threatened him with violence and spread false allegations about him and his opera singer wife Camilla Kerslake, 39. And a pal told the Mirror how he sought the permission of officers assigned to his case to get the green light to do the BBC show. The friend said: 'Before signing up, he had to tell his case officer that he was doing the show, going as far to ask for their blessing as such. The Police were told about Strictly, before he told his own family. He was one of the last celebrities to sign up, because he was taking the right measures to secure his family, before signing on the dotted line'. The stalking began six months after the woman met him briefly during two work events last year. She is understood to have left the country and is on the National Police Wanted List. Chris has said he would even be prepared to quit Strictly if things got worse. The source added: 'Chris has made it clear that his family always comes first. He told friends that if this situation ever put Camilla or the children at risk, he'd walk away from Strictly without hesitation. "He almost pulled out of the show altogether but changed his mind because he wants his son to see him out there, embracing something new and fun. He doesn't want fear to win.' Opening up about the ordeal, the pal told how his wife Camilla was too scared to leave the house at times because of the woman. The pal said: 'This woman is unhinged and nobody knows what her next move will be. Camilla has been left petrified about leaving the house with the children. "She's confided in friends that she has even run through scenarios in her head of how she would protect them if this individual were to approach - 'that's how real the fear has been utterly consuming — their lives have been hijacked by this ordeal.' Chris earned 66 caps for England, captaining them 43 times and leading the team to a Six Nations Grand Slam victory in 2016. A spokesperson for Chris told the Mirror: 'This is an ongoing police investigation, and therefore we are unable to comment at this time. Chris will not be commenting further.' Speaking about joining Strictly, Rob said previously: 'This is about as far out of my comfort zone as it gets! I'm hoping to take my dad dancing to a whole new level, and my mum can't wait to drag me along to her Zumba class. Let's see if a rugby sidestep works in the Cha Cha Cha.'

Strictly celebrity pairings 'revealed' and one star who could be 'benched'

The full line-up for the 2025 series of Strictly Come Dancing has been announced, but fans believe they have worked out which professionals will be paired with which celebrities The complete lineup for the 2025 series of Strictly Come Dancing has been officially revealed and eagle-eyed viewers reckon they have sussed out one same-sex pairing as well as all of the other pairings. ‌ The programme is set to make its comeback this autumn, with Game of Thrones star Kristian Nairn amongst the confirmed celebrity contestants. The-49 year-old, who also works as a renowned DJ, stands at an impressive six foot nine inches tall. ‌ The BBC dancing show typically matches famous faces with professional dancers based on height compatibility. It comes after it was revealed that Vicky Pattison suffered a gruelling health issue just days into training. ‌ Now, one dedicated viewer posted online that they believe they have cracked it for this very reason, predicting that Kristian will be matched with a male professional. They wrote: "Given his height, maybe there's a chance he gets a male pro? Even the taller female pros will still be nearly a foot shorter than him. Excited to see him, always struck me as a lovely guy in interviews." Another fan responding to the theory suggested: "Maybe he'll get Johannes?". A third also agreed: "Wow, was not expecting this. Rooting for him and excited to see how they will work around the height difference." Elsewhere on the show this year will be Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, Dani Dyer, Alex Kingston, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Balvinder Sopal, George Clarke, La Voix, Chris Robshaw, Ellie Goldstein, Thomas Skinner, Stefan Dennis, Ross King, and Karen Carney. Ahead of the brand-new series, several fans of the BBC show have now predicted what professionals will be paired with what celebrities. ‌ On one Reddit thread which has already raked up hundreds of likes, one Strictly fan wrote: "I feel like these will all be paired together. "Alex Kingston and Aljaz Skorjanec, Balvinder Sopal and Neil Jones, Chris Robshaw and Nadiya Bychkova, Dani Dyer and Julian Caillon, Ellie Goldstein and Nikita Kuzmin, and George Clarke and Alexis Warr." ‌ The Reddit user went on: "Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and Lauren Oakley, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Dianne Buswell, Karen Carney and Vito Coppola, Kristian Nairn and Carlos Gu, La Voix and Kai Widdrington, Ross King and Jowita Przystal. "Stefan Dennis and Karen Hauer, Thomas Skinner and Luba Mushtuk, and Vicky Pattison and Johannes Radebe." ‌ The Strictly Come Dancing fan went on to add their predictions of what dancers might be 'benched' this year as they wrote: "Gorka (obviously), Amy, Katya, Nancy and Michelle. "The reason I suggested these pairing predictions is because Katya has been through enough scandals already especially the Wynne Evans situation last year so best to leave her on the bench to prevent more controversy. "It's about time Vito challenges himself with someone with not as much dance experience or a fair amount of rhythm so Karen Carney would be possible. ‌ "Even though Karen Hauer is the oldest female pro still going, I feel Stefan Dennis would be a possible contender for her as this may well be her last year on the show (unless she wants to set the record to overtake Brendan's 15 series and Anton's 18 series then fair enough). "It would also be best if Amy sits this series out to prioritise her health and well being." ‌ However, another user disagreed that Katya would be benched for the upcoming series. "I'd be incredibly surprised if Katya was benched. If her controversies were seen as bad enough to not have her compete, I reckon they would just advise her to quit. "From a producing standpoint, Katya may bring controversy, but that controversy brings views and engagement. She has never actually caused issues herself really, its her partners that do it and she gets wrapped up in it. "She's still one of the most popular pros regardless of any controversy, which just shows how good she is. Plus, she is one of the best choreographers, and one of the most consistently entertaining. I'd say that Jowita is the only other female pro that's consistently on the same level."
