Bloodbath at a barber shop after horror double stabbing in Queanbeyan - - leaving two men critically wounded
Emergency services were called to a barber shop on Crawford Street in Queanbeyan in southern NSW at about 1.10pm on Friday following reports of a brawl.
By the time police arrived, two men believed to be aged in their 20s, had already been rushed to Queanbeyan Hospital with serious injuries.
Both men are reported to be in a critical condition.
Photos from the scene show a large police presence and the footpath outside the barber shop stained with blood, the Canberra Star reported.
Police closed off a lane of traffic to motorists as investigators scoured the scene and placed evidence markers along the footpath.
Nearby businesses, include a newsagent, other hair salons and a Kmart were forced to close their doors.
'Early indications suggest the injured men were stabbed,' a police statement read.
'It is not known whether other weapons were involved.'
Detectives have established a crime scene and launched an investigation.
The incident has shocked the tight-knit community near the ACT border.
'It had a bad reputation a long time ago, but it's actually a really lovely place in the 10-20 years I've known it,' one mum told the publication.
'That's why we're moving back... I would've never guessed something like this could've happened here though.'
Another local added: 'On the surface it seems to be a very peaceful place. I wouldn't expect something like this to happen.'

Judge tosses convictions in 2002 killing of NBA star Chris Paul's grandfather
A North Carolina trial judge has thrown out the convictions of four men in the 2002 death of basketball star Chris Paul 's grandfather. Now, state attorneys are considering their next moves, including an appeal. Superior Court Judge Robert Broadie vacated and dismissed their convictions late last week following a January hearing in Forsyth County. Nathaniel Arnold Cauthen, Rayshawn Denard Banner, Christopher Levon Bryant and Jermal Matthew Tolliver had been found guilty in trials in 2004 or 2005 for the killing of Nathaniel Jones. The four were all 14 or 15 years old when they and another teen were arrested. Jones, 61, died from a heart attack outside his Winston-Salem home after being tied up, beaten and robbed. A three-judge panel previously had denied the defendants' innocence claims after testimony in a 2022 hearing. But Broadie's order, filed Friday, cited recanted testimony from a key witness, poor legal representation and questionable actions by police, the Winston-Salem Journal reported. DNA profiles also 'further serve to corroborate Defendants' assertions that their confessions were false' and that they 'were not present at the scene of the crime,' the judge wrote. Paul, Jones' grandson, was a standout high school basketball player at the time of the assault and had committed to play at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem. Paul, now 40, is a 12-time NBA All-Star who now plays for the Los Angeles Clippers. Attorney General Jeff Jackson's office, whose lawyers defend criminal cases on appeal, asked the state Court of Appeals on Monday to halt enforcement of Broadie's order 'while we review it and consider next steps,' spokesperson Nazneen Ahmed said. Cauthen and his brother, Banner, were convicted of first-degree murder and are serving life sentences. Bryant, Tolliver and Dorrell Brayboy were convicted of second-degree murder and were released after serving prison time. Brayboy was fatally stabbed outside a Winston-Salem supermarket in 2019. Monday's petition by a state attorney said that, without action, Cauthen and Banner "will be released back into the community without this Court having an opportunity to hear and determine the State's issues on appeal.' Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O'Neill criticized Broadie's ruling, in particular his dismissals of the cases 'with prejudice,' which could make them harder to appeal. 'I have never seen that happen before in a court of law,' O'Neill said in a statement to the newspaper. 'Most judges welcome scrutiny and appellate review of their decisions.' Christine Mumma, the lawyer for Banner and Cauthen, pushed back on criticism of the judge's ruling. 'If the General Assembly didn't want judges to have the authority to dismiss with prejudice, they wouldn't have given judges that authority,' Mumma wrote in an email. 'They also wouldn't have passed statutes recognizing if charges are dismissed with prejudice, there's no right of appeal.' Mumma is the executive director of the North Carolina Center on Actual Innocence, a nonprofit that helps investigate and litigate claims of innocence.

Before killing 3 in a Target parking lot, suspect had many run-ins with Texas police
The accused 32-year-old Texas man who opened fire in a Target parking lot, killing two adults and a child, had a history of arrests for domestic violence and assault and was being held Tuesday on capital murder charges. Authorities have not offered a possible motive for Monday's shooting, which sent store employees and shoppers fleeing for cover. Austin police identified the suspect as Ethan Nieneker, who investigators say fired on shoppers and then stole two cars during a getaway that ended with his arrest on the other side of the city. He was being held in Travis County jail on two counts of capital murder and one count of murder. Jail records do not list an attorney for him. Police scheduled a news conference for Tuesday afternoon. Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said Monday that the suspect had 'a mental health history" but did not elaborate. Online court records show that Nieneker had been arrested several times in recent years in both Travis County, which includes Austin, and neighboring Williamson County. His arrests in Travis County included misdemeanors for criminal mischief and driving while intoxicated, and three arrests on felony domestic violence charges. He was convicted of a charge of assault causing bodily injury family violence in 2016 and briefly sentenced to jail. Another charge within days of the 2016 episode was dismissed, according to court records. It was not immediately clear if those two charges were related. Another charge of felony assault on a family or household member in 2019 was dismissed three years later when prosecutors could not locate the victim. Williamson County records show repeated run-ins with law enforcement, including two cases of misdemeanor family violence in 2015 that were later dismissed. He was also convicted of possession of marijuana in 2012 and entered a no contest plea to a charge of criminal mischief in 2016. Monday's shooting came as back-to-school shopping was in full swing ahead of the upcoming academic year. An adult and child were pronounced dead at the scene, while another adult died after being taken to the hospital, according to Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services. The child's age was not released. Police said that after the shooting, Nieneker stole a car from the store parking lot, wrecked that car and then stole another from a dealership before being captured about 20 miles (32 kilometers) away, in south Austin, where he was taken into custody. Police said offices used a Taser to detain him. Davis said they believe one of the people who was shot was the owner of the car stolen from the store's parking lot. The Target shooting comes just over two weeks after an attack at a Walmart store in Michigan. Gang who squirted sauce on victims to distract them as they stole thousands are jailed after months-long theft spree
Members of a ruthless organised crime gang who robbed people by squirting them with bottled sauces have been jailed. The five gang members used distraction techniques including squirting mustard and ketchup onto the coats of their elderly victims, who had just taken cash out of the bank, whilst another gang member robbed them. Between October 2024 and February 2025, the five offenders observed the victims collecting large amounts of money from branches in Kent, including Chatham, Dartford, Gravesend and Sevenoaks. They then followed their victims, who were in their 60s, 70s and 80s, back to where their cars were parked. The criminals then engaged the victims in conversation while accomplices stole the cash. Other methods used to distract the victims included placing nails and pins on the floor to either cause a puncture or encourage the victim to get out and remove the potential hazard. They also squirted sauce or mustard from a bottle onto the victim's coat and then pointed out the stain to cause a distraction. On each occasion, the victims, who were in their 60s, 70s and 80s, were engaged in talking sufficiently for another accomplice to gain access to the cash inside a car or bag and steal it undetected. A police investigation led to the tracking of a vehicle involved in the thefts back to Hemel Hempstead, where the gang members were later arrested. Jhon Ruiz, Maria Carmen, Solomon Rondon, Miguel Perez and Matias Vega, all of no fixed address, were later charged with conspiracy to steal. Further investigations following their arrest found the thieves had also targeted victims in Berkshire and Essex. In total, the gang stole £20,720 and attempted to steal a further £10,085. All five pleaded guilty to the indictment and were sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday 7 August. Perez, 31, was imprisoned for three years and nine months and Carmen, 48, was sentenced to three years and four months in prison. Ruiz, 40, Rondon, 49 and Vega, 32, were all jailed for two years and seven months. Investigating officer, Detective Constable Emma Laimbeer, said: 'These heartless criminals targeted victims who could not afford to lose the large amounts of cash that were stolen. 'Their targets were people whose first instinct was to trust strangers who engaged them in conversation. The victims' good natures were then exploited by an organised gang who used a variety of distraction techniques to get access to their money. 'Our detectives were absolutely determined to track down these offenders and successfully identified their car through painstaking examination of CCTV. 'Once identified, investigators worked out the most likely location to intercept the thieves and travelled out of Kent to effect the arrests.'
