PH to provide legal assistance to 11 Pinoys jailed in Nigeria
The Philippine government will assist the 11 Filipinos who were jailed in Nigeria for alleged "cyber-terrorism and internet fraud," Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega said Sunday.
'Our Embassy is working on the case. They will be provided legal assistance,' De Vega told GMA News Online.
On Saturday, the Agence France Presse reported the Filipinos were among 15 foreigners who were arrested, which include two Chinese, one Malaysian and one Indonesian.
They were each sentenced to one year in prison by a Lagos court and fined one million naira (about $630) after they pleaded guilty, said Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) spokesman Dele Oyewale.
They were accused of recruiting young Nigerians for "identity theft and to hold themselves out as persons of foreign nationality."

DITO: 39 foreigners brought to BI are bona fide employees of business partners
In a statement, DITO said it was confident that the BI's records would show that the foreigners had the necessary visas and work permits to legally work in the Philippines. The 39 foreigners who were brought to the Bureau of Immigration for verification after BI officers went to DITO Tecommunity's offices last week are "bona fide employees" of its business partners, the telecommunications company said on Monday. In a statement, DITO said it was confident that the BI's records would show that the foreigners had the necessary visas and work permits to legally work in the Philippines. DITO said immigration officers on May 29 visited its offices, after which 39 foreigers affiliated with its accredited business partners were brought to the bureau for further verification. "DITO Telecommunity remains committed to full compliance with Philippine laws and continues to work closely with all relevant government agencies on this matter," the company said. DITO branded as inaccurate and unfounded the "misleading information circulating in social media and other sources alleging that DITO illegally employs foreign nationals." "These individuals are bona fide employees of our business partners, who are visiting DITO's office to render continuing technical support services to DITO and its Stand Alone 5G network pursuant to valid and existing service agreements with DITO," the company said. "These foreign nationals are not employees of DITO. Their presence was strictly for the purpose of fulfilling contractually agreed technical and support obligations—an ordinary practice in infrastructure projects of this scale," it added. –NB, GMA Integrated News

Complaint filed vs. 4 over kidnapping of three foreigners
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the PNP-Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) have filed a complaint against four individuals over the kidnapping of three foreign nationals in Batangas. According to the NBI, the two Chinese and one Korean were kidnapped while they were en route to their fishing trip in Nasugbu on May 2. They were abducted by the group who were posing as police officers at a made-up checkpoint near the Kaybiang Tunnel, near the Cavite-Batangas boundary. The NBI said that intelligence operations later led to the surrender of one of the subjects on May 26 at the NBI in Pasay City. He executed a sworn extrajudicial confession and admitted that he participated in the surveillance, coordinating, and logistical planning of the abduction. The subject also identified the alleged mastermind behind the scheme and a certain 'master' as the one responsible for recruiting assets for the kidnapping. The alleged mastermind later provided his own sworn statement, where he affirmed the facts provided by the surenderee. '[He] recounted being promised financial compensation in exchange for his cooperation in planting a GPS tracking device and monitoring the movements of his employer, one of the eventual victims, under the guise of assisting a law enforcement operation,' the NBI said. 'He also confirmed the involvement of 'Master,' who coordinated with the individuals who posed as law enforcement personnel to carry out the abduction,' he added. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
