Detroit Lions' Morice Norris injury raises memories of similar recent NFL incidents
The most frightening happened in January 2023 when Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin went into cardiac arrest and had to be resuscitated on the field after attempting to make a routine tackle during the first quarter of a regular-season game at Cincinnati.
The last time a preseason game was stopped before completion actually happened in consecutive weeks in August 2023.
New England's game at Green Bay in Week 2 of the 2023 preseason was called off when Patriots cornerback Isaiah Bolden was carted off in the fourth quarter. Bolden appeared to collide with teammate Calvin Munson while attempting to make a hit on a pass completion to Malik Heath of the Packers.
Bolden was taken to a hospital and released the next day.
A week later, a game between Miami and Jacksonville was not completed after Dolphins receiver Daewood Davis was carted off in the fourth quarter. Davis was hurt when he ran a slant route and was attempting to catch a pass and he was hit by Jaguars linebacker Dequan Jackson.
Davis was released from the hospital a day later.
The two frightening injuries happened some eight months after Hamlin was injured in front of a national TV audience on 'Monday Night Football.'
Hamlin has since become an advocate for CPR training and having automatic external defibrillators available at community centers and youth and high school sporting events.

Morice Norris gives positive injury update after Lions game: 'I'm all good man'
This Morice Norris injury update is great news. Norris, the Detroit Lions undrafted second-year cornerback out of Fresno State, posted to his Instagram story on Saturday morning, saying he was "all good" after a scary neck/head injury that had him rushed by ambulance from the field to the hospital in Atlanta on the first play of Friday's fourth quarter in a preseason game. "Amen Amen," he wrote above a bible verse sent to him. "I'm all good man don't stress it appreciate all the check ins and love🩵" The game was suspended, ending with the Lions winning 17-10 in their second of four exhibition games. Norris went in for a tackle and hit the thigh of Falcons rookie running back Nathan Carter, who spent the past two seasons at Michigan State. Norris' head snapped back violently and he immediately went limp upon the collision to the ground. GET TO KNOW MO: Morice Norris worked and worked by himself way after practice. I found out why. The scene brought back scary memories for Lions radio analyst Lomas Brown, who was on the field in 1991 when Lions teammate Mike Utley was paralyzed on a hit during a regular season game. "And you know how people say when we say one play could end your career?" Brown told the Free Press after the game. "One play could end your career. "It's really scary," Brown said. "Man, heart beating right now." Lions CB Morice Norris provides encouraging update via Instagram: 'I'm all good'
Detroit Lions cornerback Morice Norris posted and reposted encouraging updates on his Instagram Saturday morning. Norris posted a story with the caption, "Amen Amen I'm all good man don't stress it appreciate all the check ins and love." Then he reposted a post from fellow Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold, who included a screenshot of a FaceTime call with a smiling Norris. "My dawg [Morice] called me today," Arnold wrote in his Instagram caption Saturday morning. "Sometimes we forget how precious life is and everything. That goes into playing this game that we love but we serve an almighty... God thanks for protecting my brother." After suffering an apparent head injury early in the fourth quarter of Friday night's preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons, Norris was taken off the field in an ambulance. Rather than continuing to play, the teams let the clock run before officials eventually announced that the game was suspended with 6:31 remaining. The Lions announced late Friday night that Norris was in stable condition with "feeling and movement in all his extremities." This story is being updated.
