Collector stresses timely selection of mentors for adopted ‘Golden Families'
The Collector emphasized that the selection process should be carried out efficiently to ensure timely support and guidance for the families aimed at economic upliftment.
The directive came following a Zoom video conference held on Friday by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu with district collectors, ministers, and MLAs from the state secretariat in Vijayawada.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister outlined a clear roadmap of actions to be taken under the Public-Private-People Participation (P4) model. He stated that the initiative aims to reduce economic disparities and enhance the overall quality of life for every citizen. The Chief Minister described the P4 model as a game-changer for the future, stressing the need to identify zero-poverty households and provide them with consistent support, guidance, and skill development opportunities. He urged that mentors must take personal responsibility in transforming these families into economically self-reliant units.
He also announced the establishment of the 'Swarnandhra P4 Foundation,' which will focus on improving standards in education, healthcare, and livelihoods.
The ultimate goal, he said, is to eliminate poverty in the first phase by 2029, calling on all stakeholders to dedicate themselves to this collective mission.
After the video conference, Collector Rajakumari reaffirmed the district's commitment to implementing the P4 initiative effectively.
She stated that all guidelines and instructions issued by the Chief Minister would be carefully followed to ensure the program's success at the grassroots level. Chief Planning Officer Venu Gopal and other key officials also participated in the meeting.

Andhra Pradesh government restores pensions for 1,575 landless families in Amaravati
Vijayawada: The state government has decided to restore welfare pensions to around 1,575 landless poor families in Amaravati, the capital city area. This decision follows a resolution passed by the CRDA (Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority) governing council, chaired recently by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu . Each family will receive a monthly pension of Rs 2,500 until further notice. "The government has authorised the Commissioner, APCRDA, to extend the benefit of the landless poor pension to 1,575 families as per the original household survey conducted in 2015. These families were initially granted the benefit but were later excluded based on income limits and six-step validation. The government has now decided to restore the pension as a special case, considering the unique circumstances under which these families lost their livelihoods due to the establishment of the Capital City and land acquisition by the APCRDA," said S Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary, municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD). He explained that the CRDA, at its recent meeting, resolved to restore the Amaravati landless poor pension starting January 2025, based on the original 2015 household survey. Following this, the CRDA Commissioner requested that the benefit be extended to the 1,575 families who were previously included in the scheme. In 2015, soon after the announcement of the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS), the state government granted a welfare pension of Rs 2,500 to approximately 23,500 families in the capital city area. The scheme was designed to support landless poor families who lost employment due to the acquisition of agricultural land for capital city development. The Guntur District Collector determined the landless status based on a household survey, white ration card (BPL status), and residential proof in Amaravati. However, during the YSRCP government's tenure, 1,575 families were removed from the pension list following a six-step verification process, which classified them as above the poverty line. Now, the Naidu-led NDA government has decided to continue the pension, regardless of income status. Notably, the original government decision in 2015 stated that both the landless poor pension and the LPS annuity would be provided only for ten years, which would have ended in July 2025. However, due to the delay in completing the capital city construction, the government has opted to extend both schemes. The landless poor pension will cost the government Rs 70–80 crore, while the LPS annuity requires an annual outlay of about Rs 160 crore for around 18,000 farmers in Amaravati.

Karnataka transport minister urges Centre to provide direct subsidy to states for electric buses
MANGALURU: Karnataka Transport Minister B. Ramalinga Reddy has called on the central government to directly provide subsidies to state governments for procuring electric buses under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme, instead of routing them to private operators through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Speaking at the inauguration of the automated driving test track at Pajir near Mangaluru on Sunday, Reddy said the procurement and operation of electric buses was much smoother during the UPA regime. 'At that time, electric buses cost around Rs 20 lakh. The central government provided 50% of the funding, while the state government and transport corporations each contributed 25%. This model worked efficiently for state-run services like BMTC, NWKRTC, and NEKRTC,' he said. Under the current NDA government, however, Reddy pointed out that subsidies are granted directly to private companies through a bidding process. 'These private operators own the buses, hire drivers, and manage maintenance, while state corporations only provide conductors and pay the operator on a per-kilometre basis,' he added. He urged the Centre to revert to a model where subsidies go directly to state transport corporations. 'This would ensure better accountability, especially when drivers are employed directly by the state,' he said. Reddy also highlighted the steep rise in electric bus costs—now around Rs 2 crore—and appealed to the Centre to offer GST input credits to manufacturers. 'This will bring down manufacturing costs, making buses more affordable for states and beneficial for passengers,' he said. He further recommended that operators be allowed to charge electric buses at any facility, not just at government-run charging stations. 'Private stations offer power at Rs 3–Rs 4 per unit, compared to Rs 8 at government facilities,' Reddy noted.
