Two truck drivers held with gutkha consignments valued at Rs 1.23 crore
Palghar, July 26 (PTI) Police seized consignments of banned gutkha, valued at Rs 1.23 crore, from two trucks on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway in Palghar district and arrested two drivers, an official said on Saturday.
'The banned tobacco products were concealed inside two containers and were being transported in violation of state laws and food safety regulations. The estimated value of the seized gutka is Rs 1.23 crore," the Talasari police station officer told PTI.
He stated that the seizure was made during patrolling on Friday afternoon at Vikaspada in Talasar.
The drivers were arrested under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restriction on Sales) Regulations and the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations.

4,000+ motorists speeding on Coastal Rd challaned this year
Mumbai: More than 4,000 motorists were challaned by Mumbai traffic police for speeding on the Coastal Road so far this year, with fines issued running up to Rs 82 lakh. Around 1,500 challans have been cleared and Rs 31 lakh in fines paid by offenders so far, the police said. Additionally, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) challaned another 596 motorists for crossing speed limits, including several high-end vehicles such as BMW, Mercedes and Audi. The vehicle captures speed and generates challans. Traffic police also set up a similar interceptor vehicle earlier this year. "On the south-bound arm of the Coastal Road at Worli and on the north-bound arm near the tunnel, electronic displays have also been put up that show the speed of vehicles passing in the lane beneath. Seven speed cameras are being set up for automatic generation of challans," said a police official. Of the total 596 challans issued by the transport department, Tardeo RTO generated 306 and Wadala RTO 290. Four squads have been positioned near crucial entry and exit points to monitor violations. Land fraud racket: 5 arrested with Rs 32L cash, 5 vehicles
1 2 Mohali: Mohali police have dismantled a land fraud syndicate, arresting five key members and seizing Rs 32.5 lakh in cash along with five vehicles used in the scam. Two other accused remain at large, with police hot on their trail. Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrests man with 2 kg ambergris
The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) of Ahmedabad City Police on Wednesday arrested a man and seized 2 kg ambergris worth around Rs 2 crore from him. The arrested man has been identified as Raju alias Rajesh Punamchand Marwadi, 43, resident of Meghaninagar, Ahmedabad City and originally from Bikaner in Rajasthan. The arrest was made during a raid conducted by police at Meghaninagar in Ahmedabad based on a tip-off. Police said they are on the look out for two persons, Ganesh Bachhraj Marwadi of Mumbai, who allegedly provided the ambergris to Marwadi.
