Punjab: Gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria's aide arrested from Batala

The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab has arrested a close aide of gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria in connection with the shootout that took place at Ghuman in Batala, director general of police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said on Sunday.
The arrested accused has been identified as Nilson Massih alias Sunny, a resident of village Athwal in Gurdaspur. He has a criminal history and is facing at least seven criminal cases, including charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery, snatching and violations of the Arms Act.
The shootout, which occurred on the evening of May 26 outside a petrol pump located on Ghuman-Shri Hargobindpur road, resulted in the death of Gurpreet Singh Gora alias Gora Bariar. Billa Mandiala had sustained injuries in the shooting.
According to DGP Yadav, preliminary interrogation revealed that Massih was in contact with gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. 'Acting on Bhagwanpuria's directions, Massih orchestrated the murder of Gora Bariar. Massih, along with his three associates, had carried out this attack,' the DGP said.
Sharing operational details, additional director general of police (ADGP) AGTF Promod Ban said that acting on a tip-off regarding Massih's presence in Batala jurisdiction, AGTF teams under the supervision of DSP Rajan Parminder, along with Batala Police, launched the operation and arrested him from Qadian-Batala road near village Shahbad.

'Shrasti Raghuwanshi Instagram...': Why Are People Searching For Raja Raghuvanshi's Sister Online

Last Updated: Raja Raghuvanshi Murder: Shrasti Raghuwanshi, who claims to be the sister of deceased Indore man, is facing criticism for exploiting her brother's death for views and likes Instagram reels made by the purported sister of deceased Raja Raghuvanshi have gone viral on social media platforms ever since the Meghalaya honeymoon case came to light. The viral videos show Shrasti Raghuwanshi, who has 394K followers on Instagram, lashing out at Sonam Raghuvanshi, the wife and alleged killer of her brother. While some videos uploaded by Shrasti show her in a joyful mood during her brother's pre-wedding festivities and rituals, other reels show the family mourning the demise of their loved one with the message that Sonam would be brought to justice. So why exactly is Shrasti, who claims to be Raja's sister, facing brickbats from social media users? The Honeymoon Murder A case that has made national headlines involves Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi, a newlywed couple from Indore who travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon in May but did not return home. The couple vanished on May 23 after checking out from a homestay in Nongriat village sparking a massive search. Raja, a resident of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, was later found dead in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls in East Khasi Hills district on June 2. This was 10 days after the couple had mysteriously disappeared. Raja's body was discovered with signs of murder. The breakthrough, however, came when Sonam, the wife, was arrested by the Meghalaya Police along with the three other accused. Sonam had 'surrendered" at Nandganj police station in Uttar Pradesh, the DGP told the media. The couple tied knot on May 11. Shrasti Raghuwanshi's Instagram As the nation watched the events unfold in utter shock, videos of Raja's sister began doing the rounds of social media. Shrasti's multiple videos of raising awareness around her brother's death, however, did not sit well with the viewers. Many have since accused the sister of 'clout chasing" and exploiting the family tragedy to gain traction and likes on the video and photo-sharing platform. The use of 'insensitive" hashtags has also left people on Instagram baffled. The said hashtags include '#trending" '#like" among many others. Promotional Posts As Shrasti faced accusations and a blanket condemnation for using the tragedy for personal gains, brand deal videos from when Raja was missing also brought her account with nearly 4 lakh followers a lot of unwanted attention. A day ahead of Raja's discovery, the sister shared a promotional video of a mobile store in Indore. Social Media Reaction 'Reel addiction is stripping influencers of basic human sensitivity," an X user wrote who goes by the handle @theskindoctor13 wrote before adding, 'Raja Raghuvanshi went missing on May 23. His sister, an Insta Influenza with 373K followers, kept posting promotional reels almost daily, even after her brother's disappearance. On June 1, the day his body was found, she uploaded a reel promoting a mobile bumper sale. Four days later, she promoted a massage parlour. Next day she promoted a beauty parlour in Indore." The account further wrote: 'Now that the news has blown up, she's suddenly posting emotional reels with melodramatic captions and sad background music and gaining traction." RCB stampede probe: Judicial commission gets 2 retired officers for assistance

Bengaluru: The state govt Monday appointed two retired civil service officers to provide technical and legal assistance to Justice John Michael D'Cunha, who heads the one-man judicial commission investigating the stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium that left 11 people dead and 75 injured on June 4. NS Prasanna Kumar, a retired IAS officer, and MK Srivastav, a retired IPS officer, have been appointed to the commission. According to sources, Kumar retired from service in June 2020 and is currently an adviser to Karnataka Administrative Reforms Commission, while Srivastav retired in Feb 2011 as DGP. The govt notification on the matter stated a separate order would be issued regarding their salary. The commission has one month to investigate the stampede and submit a report to the state govt. Justice D'Cunha is already heading a commission investigating two sensitive cases — the alleged Covid-era medical procurement scam and deaths of patients due to suspected oxygen shortage at the Chamarajanagar district hospital. But following the stampede, the govt launched a three-pronged investigation — judicial, magisterial, and CID, which took over the criminal probe Friday evening from Cubbon Park police. The Bengaluru Urban deputy commissioner is heading the magisterial probe. The D'Cunha commission was formed on June 5, a day after the tragedy. The govt has instructed the DGP, Bengaluru city police commissioner, and Bengaluru Urban DC to provide files and documents for investigation by the commission. PWD min to review KSCA land lease With CM Siddaramaiah stating he would "examine" the possibility of shifting Chinnaswamy Stadium to the outskirts of Bengaluru, public works minister Satish Jarkiholi has sought the file related to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) lease agreement on the land. "KSCA pays Rs 19,000 a year for the land, and it has been renewed twice already for 30 years each. I've asked for the file, to check when their lease ends," said Jarkiholi. It may be recalled that 13 years ago, PWD had calculated a revised estimate of the annual rent — Rs 78.7 crore — based on the guidance value at the time. The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) had also pulled up the govt 20 years ago for failing to collect the market value rent from KSCA and had estimated it had foregone as much as Rs 203 crore in revenue back then.

Dalit youth shot dead after dispute over ration distribution in Chhatarpur

Bhopal: A dalit youth was shot dead while his brother got injured after a routine ration distribution turned violent in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh. The incident took place at Bilhari village under Naugaon police station area on Sunday. Pankaj Prajapati, 19, was killed, and his brother Ashish was injured after gunfire erupted during a scuffle at the local ration shop. The incident triggered outrage in the region. The violence broke out around 10 am at the Gram Panchayat's ration shop, which is being run from the house of local resident and advocate Praveen Pateria. Video footage of that incident surfaced on Monday. Eyewitnesses told police that Pankaj and Ashish Prajapati from Kumhartoli village got into an argument with Pateria over the non-distribution of ration for the past three months. The altercation intensified when the two brothers returned to the shop with their family members. It is alleged that Praveen Pateria, along with Naveen Pateria and Ramsevak Arajaria, began hurling abuses. The situation went out of control when Praveen climbed onto the roof and opened fire. One bullet struck Pankaj in the thigh, and although he was referred to Gwalior for treatment, he succumbed to his injuries en route. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Simple. Two videos of the incident went viral on Monday — one capturing the altercation, and the other showing Praveen firing a gun from the rooftop. The victim's family gathered at the Naugaon hospital and refused to allow a postmortem, citing inaction by the police. They later blocked the road outside the tehsil office in protest. During the demonstration, a man attempted self-immolation by dousing himself in petrol, but was stopped in time by the police. Initially, police filed a case against only one accused, which intensified the villagers' anger. After nearly five hours of protest, the police registered a case against all three — Praveen, Naveen, and Ramsevak — under charges including murder and relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Arms Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The FIR includes charges under Sections 115(2), 109(1), 296 of the BNS, and Sections 3(1)(d), 3(1)(dh), 3(2)(v), 3(2)(va) of the SC/ST Act, along with Sections 25-27 of the Arms Act.
