18-year-old charged for armed robbery and attempted robbery in Cambridge

Waterloo Regional Police say an 18-year-old has been arrested following an armed robbery and attempted robbery in Cambridge. On Wednesday, just before 9 p.m., a male walked into an unnamed store at Pinebush Road and Franklin Boulevard. An employee said he purchased items and then demanded a refund. When the employee refused, the male pulled out a gun. Police said the employee found a safe place to hide and called 911. The suspect then went to another business where he smashed display cases and stole several BB guns. Police said no one was hurt in either incident. Officers found the man Thursday morning inside a parked vehicle at Holiday Inn Drive and Schiedel Court. The 18-year-old was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000, attempted robbery with a firearm, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and robbery with a firearm.

Porch pirate steals child's heart monitor

A Guelph man is facing charges after he was seen carrying a package, containing a pediatric heart monitor, stolen from the front porch of a nearby home. A resident reported the theft to Guelph Police at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday. They said the parcel had just been taken from the porch of their home near Willow Road and Applewood Crescent. 'The package contained a heart monitor their child desperately needed,' police said in a media release. Officers responding to the call spotted a man carrying the box. Police arrested him and, during the subsequent search, also recovered a pair of prescription glasses which had been stolen from a vehicle in the same neighbourhood. The 43-year-old Guelph man was charged with theft under $5,000, two counts of possessing stolen property under $5,000, and two counts of breaching a probation order.
