Selangor requires RM1b to boost padi production
He said the state government will soon engage with the Federal Government to discuss funding through the Integrated Agricultural Development Area (IADA), Northwest Selangor to achieve five planting cycles every two years.
'The funding is crucial to upgrade drainage systems, build water retention ponds, and acquire 80.9 hectares of paddy fields from Tanjong Karang to Sabak Bernam.
'We are facing problems to get water to Sabak Bernam, so we want to increase water capacity in most areas in northwest Selangor so that there is adequate water supply for five planting cycles every two years,' he told reporters today, and pointed out the importance of the upgrades as Selangor has no new land for padi cultivation under current plans.
He also expressed confidence that all infrastructure improvements could be completed within three years if allocations were approved by the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry.
Izham shared that Selangor was also fine-tuning new methods to enhance collaboration between farmers and stakeholders, including FGV Holdings Berhad, which has demonstrated large-scale padi yield improvements in the state.
'We have proposed RM100 per ton incentives for farmers achieving seven-ton yields,' he said, noting that currently only farmers in Sungai Leman and Sekinchan areas were capable of achieving such yields out of the state's 9,000 padi farmers.
Earlier, Izham attended a farmers' appreciation event in Sungai Leman and launched Briar & Behn Meyer's BASE fertilizer technology at Dewan Seri Sekinchan here.

NSCMH to raise RM45mil for new hospital block
SEREMBAN: NSCMH Holdings Sdn Bhd has launched a private placement to part-finance Phase 2 of CMH Specialist Hospital's redevelopment, which includes a new medical block. The exercise targets RM45 million via the issuance of 18 million new shares, covering 30% of the project's RM120 million construction cost. The remaining RM80 million will be financed through bank borrowings, personally guaranteed by Negri Sembilan Chinese Maternity Association (NSCMA) president Datuk Seri Lee Tian Hock, with corporate guarantees from the NSCMA and NSCMH Holdings. Lee became the first subscriber with an RM25 million investment for 10 million shares. The Seremban Wah Chai Association and Negeri Sembilan Persatuan Hainan pledged their support with investments of RM1 million and RM250,000, respectively. The private placement is now open at RM2.50 per share, with a minimum subscription of 100,000 shares. The subscription period runs until Sept 6. Eligible subscribers include members of the NSCMA, employees, and group members of the Association, as well as attending doctors of CMH Specialist Hospital and CMH Dialysis Care. Upon completion of the exercise, the NSCMA will retain a controlling stake of 69 per cent in the company. Lee had conducted the briefing, outlining the mechanics of the placement and the hospital's long-term development blueprint and answering questions from attendees. He assured that should the subscription be oversubscribed, he would reduce his portion to accommodate others. However, if undersubscribed, he would take up the balance to ensure the success of the exercise. "This is not only a fundraising initiative but also a commitment to social responsibility. "By leading with my own investment, I hope to inspire confidence and drive collective participation towards the success of this private placement," he said. The company started the first phase of the project in March this year, which is expected to be completed by the end of October. Lee said the two phases will ensure that the hospital can handle the increasing traffic volume and meet the growing medical needs of patients. "These two phases symbolise our transformation from a traditional 'survival mode' into an 'upgrading and development mode', shifting from preservation to expansion," he added. Lee described the initiative as more than a fundraising effort, calling it "a once-in-a-century opportunity" for every stakeholder of the hospital to play a part in its next century of growth.

Tabung Haji denies RM20mil rebranding allegation
KUALA LUMPUR: Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has denied that it spent RM20mil on rebranding, calling it a false and defamatory allegation. In a statement, TH clarified that the actual cost for the brand rejuvenation process was RM2mil per year over a three-year period. 'Efforts to strengthen the brand have been undertaken multiple times as a vital investment aimed at changing mindsets and encouraging Muslims to save systematically in order to fulfil the requirements for performing the haj,' it said. TH said the rebranding process also involved market surveys and engagement with depositors to better understand their needs while taking into account demographic shifts within the Muslim community in Malaysia. 'The claim that TH need not strengthen its well-known brand after 60 years of operation is also inaccurate,' said the statement. As of now, TH has 9.6 million depositors, which accounts for about half of the Muslim population in the country. According to TH, over 53% of depositors hold savings of less than RM1,300, which is significantly below the estimated RM15,000 needed for a pilgrim from the B40 group to undertake the haj in 2025. 'Over 80% of the depositors' financial transactions are carried out online. Therefore, TH plans to launch a campaign to encourage Muslims to save early, consistently and systematically to build sufficient savings, while ensuring stable investments for the institution's sustainability,' the statement said, Bernama reported. TH stated that its board of directors had chosen to reassess the agency's strategy in order to maintain competitiveness, enhance service quality, and appeal to a younger demographic of Muslims as potential depositors.
