YouTuber Kanika Devrani claims she was drugged, robbed on train to Assam; Railways responds
In a video shared on Instagram titled 'Travel Safe', Devrani claimed she lost consciousness during the journey and discovered her iPhone missing when the train halted at New Jalpaiguri station in West Bengal. She alleged that an unauthorised person entered her compartment, sprayed a sedative, and stole her phone. A co-passenger also reported a similar experience, she said.
'First class AC tickets weren't available, so I booked a 2AC ticket thinking it would be safe. At New Jalpaiguri, while I was asleep and my phone was charging near my berth, someone took it,' Devrani said in her reel.
The vlogger questioned how someone without a valid ticket was able to enter a reserved coach. She further alleged that Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel did not cooperate with her even after she located her phone via a tracking app in West Bengal's Malda district.
Devrani also posted about the incident on social media, tagging West Bengal Police and Malda Police, and urged authorities to take action.
Responding to her complaint, Railway Seva (@RailwaySeva) wrote on X, 'For necessary action, escalated to the concerned official.'
The incident has sparked a flurry of reactions online, with several users calling out the lack of security in long-distance trains, particularly for women.
'Very sad to see this. Thank God you're safe, Kanika,' one user commented, while another wrote, 'Is it really this easy for anyone to enter reserved coaches without supervision? What safety are you providing to your passengers?'
Some also criticised the broader state of railway security. 'Safety is a joke in India,' one comment read.
As of now, there is no official word from the RPF or local police on whether an investigation has been launched.

Cattle owner booked as Vanda Bharat train damaged after hitting bovine
Trichy: The Vande Bharat (VB) express (no. 20665) plying from Chennai Egmore to Tirunelveli incurred significant damage to its front portion after it ran over cattle between Vriddhachalam and Ariyalur section on Monday evening. Cattle owners and residents along railway lines must remain alert and ensure that livestock are not straying close to tracks. As such incidents compromise passengers' safety and disrupt train operations, the livestock owner will be held responsible, the official added.

Rajkot: A driver with the forest department in Manavadar, Junagadh, was left baffled on discovering that someone had lavishly spent Rs 2.38 lakh in his name by purchasing a smartphone, an Iphone and shopping on a quick delivery app. The cyberfraud victim filed a complaint at the Junagadh Range Cyber police after finding that a credit card of a leading private lender had been misued since Feb. On Feb 13 he got a call from a woman introducing herself as 'Mamta Sharma' from the bank's credit card department. She told him that he had earned reward points which could redeem through a sms link she would send. Trusting her, the man followed her instructions and entered is details in the app named that got downloaded when he clicked the link. After sometime, there were three transactions from his account - Rs 2.67 lakh spent on high-end mobiles and Rs 15,546 on the quick commerce platform. When he questioned the caller, she claimed the amount was deducted temporarily for the reward points and assured him it would be refunded along with the points. However, it was never returned. Cattle run over damages front portion of Vande Bharat express
The aerodynamic (front) portion of Chennai Egmore - Tirunelveli Vande Bharat express (Train No. 20665) suffered damage following a cattle run over on Vriddhachalam - Ariyalur broad gauge section on Monday evening. The incident resulted in a brief detention of train services for about 14 minutes from 5.27 p.m. to 5.41 p.m. Acting swiftly, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Vriddhachalam Post launched an intensive search operation and mounted surveillance at the site for over six hours and arrested the cattle owner, Sivakumar, a resident of Manalur, Vriddhachalam, when he returned to clear the carcass. He was booked under section 154 of the Railways Act, 1989 for endangering passenger safety and would be penalised for negligence that led to the loss of the animal and damage to the train. Such incidents compromise passenger safety and disrupt train operations. Hence, cattle owners and residents of villages along railway lines have been urged to remain alert and ensure that livestock are kept away from the track. Southern Railway has warned that carelessness near the railway track will not be tolerated, a press release from Tiruchi Railway Division said.
