Is Caitlin Clark playing today? Injury status for Fever vs. Sun

USA Today8 hours ago
The Indiana Fever will likely be without guard Caitlin Clark again on Sunday for their game against the Connecticut Sun.
Clark has missed 12 consecutive games due to a right groin injury.
In an appearance on the "Bird's Eye View" podcast with Sue Bird earlier this month, Clark said she still didn't have a timetable for a potential return.
She had been listed as a game-time decision on WNBA.com ahead of the Fever's Aug. 12 game, but she did not return that day against the Dallas Wings. The Fever's probable starters for Sunday's game did not include Clark.
Clark underwent additional medical evaluations late last month, but the results showed "no additional injuries or damage."
She has dealt with multiple injuries this season that have kept her out of action. She was previously sidelined for five games due to a left quad injury and four games with a left groin injury. Clark also missed the Fever's Commissioner's Cup win and the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game and 3-point competition.
The Fever have struggled to stay healthy at the guard position, losing Aari McDonald (broken foot) and Sydney Colson (ACL) to season-ending injuries earlier this month.
The Fever signed Odyssey Sims to a hardship contract on Sunday, Aug. 10.
Will Caitlin Clark play today? Injury update for Fever-Sun
Clark is not expected to play Sunday. She was not listed as a probable starter for Sunday's game on the Fever's website.

Fever' Caitlin Clark reacts to boyfriend's emotional post on Saturday

The post Fever' Caitlin Clark reacts to boyfriend's emotional post on Saturday appeared first on ClutchPoints. Through good times and bad, Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark lived up to that phrase by showing support for her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, after he announced the passing of his grandmother, Marit Smaby Nowlin. McCaffery, an assistant coach at Butler, shared an emotional message on Instagram alongside a childhood photo of himself sitting on her lap. He wrote: 'I've been trying to think of what to say, and I can't. It's impossible to put into words how much you meant to our entire family. I refuse to say goodbye, so until we meet again.' The Fever guard responded in the comments with a series of heart and prayer emojis to offer love and comfort to her partner. Other messages of support soon followed, including one from Clark's teammate Lexie Hull, who also reacted with heart emojis. The gesture reflected how those close to McCaffery and Clark came together amid the loss. Marit Smaby Nowlin died at the age of 80 while vacationing at Lake Vermilion in Minnesota. Reports state that emergency teams were called on Wednesday evening after a 911 call. When they arrived, family members were attempting to revive her before she was transported to Cook Hospital, where she sadly passed away. No official cause of death has been disclosed, according to Athlon Sports. McCaffery's younger sister, who also carries the name Marit in honor of their grandmother, shared her message on social media. 'No one else I would want to be named after. It is the greatest honor. Cannot wait to see you again one day, mormor.' Clark and McCaffery have been together since April 2023, when Clark was still at Iowa. Since then, Clark has become one of the most recognized athletes in the country after being selected first overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft. McCaffery, meanwhile, has continued his path in basketball as part of the coaching staff at Butler, and Clark faces a challenging year marked by a groin injury that has kept her sidelined for 12 consecutive games. Clark's current struggles stand in contrast to her spotless record in college and as a rookie, when she never missed a single game. Her absence has forced the Fever to adjust without their star, while off the court, she continues to stand by McCaffery during a difficult personal moment. From Brian Haenchen, IndyStar: Fever 85, Sun 72 "Nothing like a trip to Connecticut to get a team right, right? Right?? The Fever failed to capitalize on similar opportunities at home against the Dallas Wings and Washington Mystics, but those losses were preceded by a 22-point thumping of the Chicago Sky. And the Sun are behind the Sky in the standings. "So, transitive property, it should be smooth sailing out east. "More seriously, the Fever are desperate for a win and this is a great opportunity to address the issues that arose in Friday's loss — the stagnant offense and over-reliance on Kelsey Mitchell. "I suspect Kyra Lambert will make her debut (with how the schedule sets up, it's kind of now or never) and it would not surprise me if Odyssey Sims slots into the starting lineup. Unfortunately, there has been no firm timeline for when she could return to the court. Out of the 34 games the Fever have played this season, Clark has only been available for 13 of them. Even in those games, she was clearly hampered by injuries. Most recently, she has been out for over a month due to a groin injury. So far, she has been unable to even get back on the practice court with her team. Photo byAhead of the matchup against the Sun, head coach Stephanie White spoke out with a brief update about Clark. Read more: Caitlin Clark's Status for Fever-Sun Game Revealed When asked if Clark would return at some point this season, White spoke out with honest hope. She started off with a three-word message on the situation. "That's the hope," White said. "The hope is that she's back." Her response does not instill confidence in the Indiana fan base that Clark will be seen again this season. It's a good sign that the Fever haven't already shut her down for the year, but quite often hope doesn't become a reality. Right now, Indiana is fighting for its playoff life. Due to losing four out of their last five games, the Fever have dropped down to No. 7 in the WNBA standings. They still rank No. 3 in the Eastern Conference standings. Clark returning to the court might just be the push that Indiana needs to get back to being a contender. Ideally, with the time she has been out, she would be coming back at 100 percent health without much of a risk of another injury popping up. Read more: Paige Bueckers Fires Back at Fever's Sophie Cunningham's Referee Comments During the 13 games that she has played this season, Clark's performance has not lived up to the WNBA MVP hype she was receiving before the year began. She has averaged 16.5 points per game to go along with 8.8 assists, five rebounds, and 1.6 steals. Clark has also shot just 36.7 percent from the floor and 27.9 percent from three-point range. Hopefully, the Fever will have some good news to share about Clark in the near future. For now, all fans can do is wait and hope that she'll be able to make a return to the court before the end of the year.
