Gaza war: 32 Palestinians killed as Israeli troops open fire at aid seekers

Israeli troops opened fire on Saturday toward crowds of Palestinians seeking food from distribution hubs run by a US-and Israeli-backed group in southern Gaza, killing at least 32 people, according to witnesses and hospital officials.
The shootings occurred near hubs operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which launched operations in May. The US and Israel seek to replace the traditional UN-led aid distribution system in Gaza, asserting that Hamas militants siphon off supplies. The UN denies the allegation.
While the GHF says it has distributed millions of meals to hungry Palestinians, local health officials and witnesses say that Israeli army fire has killed hundreds of people as they try to reach the hubs. GHF's four sites are in military-controlled zones.
Israel's army, which is not at the sites but secures them from a distance, says it only fires warning shots if crowds get too close to its forces. The military on Saturday said it fired warning shots near Gaza's southernmost city of Rafah after a group of suspects approached troops and ignored calls to keep their distance. It said the incident occurred overnight when the distribution site was closed.
In a statement, the GHF said there were no incidents at or near its sites and added, 'we have repeatedly warned aid seekers not to travel to our sites overnight and early morning hours.'

At least 73 in Gaza killed while seeking aid, Israel orders evacuations

At least 73 people were killed while attempting to access aid at locations across Gaza on Sunday, the health ministry in the Palestinian territory said. The largest toll was in northern Gaza, where at least 67 Palestinians were killed while trying to reach aid entering northern Gaza through the Zikim crossing with Israel , according to the ministry and local hospitals. More than 150 people were wounded, with some of them in critical condition, hospitals said. It was not immediately clear whether they were killed by the Israeli army or armed gangs, or both. But some witnesses said that the Israeli military shot at the crowd. The killings in northern Gaza did not take place near aid distribution points associated with the Gaza Humanitarian Fund, or GHF, a US- and Israel-backed group that hands out food packages to Palestinians. Witnesses and health workers say hundreds of people have been killed by Israeli fire while trying to access the group's distribution sites. The Israeli military did not immediately make any comment on Sunday's killings.

Could Taiwan's donation pledge for Israeli settlement project backfire?

Taiwan's recent pledge to donate to an Israeli settlement health project in the West Bank has broken international norms of engagement with Israel's occupation and could backfire, experts say. Abby Ya-Ping Lee, Taiwan's representative to Israel , made the donation pledge this month during a visit to the Binyamin Regional Council, which governs 48 settler communities in the occupied West Bank. She was accompanied by Israel Ganz, chairman of the Binyamin Regional Council and the Yesha Council, the umbrella organisation of municipal councils of settlement communities. The donation will fund the Nanasi Medical Centre at Sha'ar Binyamin, north of Jerusalem. The donation is the island's latest attempt to foster closer ties with Israel , which is under growing international pressure for its war in Gaza , a conflict that UN experts have called a genocide. 02:02 Israeli air strikes shatter ceasefire, leave hundreds dead in Gaza Israeli air strikes shatter ceasefire, leave hundreds dead in Gaza But experts argue this development is different.
