Customers threaten to boycott Woolworths as it axes popular discount program in shock move
Woolworths has scrapped one of its popular discount programs, with furious customers threatening to boycott the company and its Everyday Extra benefits program.
Rewards program customers have been told via email they will no longer be entitled to a 10 per cent discount on one Big W shop per month.
'We're writing to let you know that, unfortunately, from Sunday, June 1, 2025, the BIG W monthly 10 per cent off discount will no longer be part of Everyday Extra benefits,' the email read.
Woolworths reminded customers they were still entitled to '10 per cent off one shop every month at Woolworths, in store or online'.
In addition, they will also get 'two Everyday Rewards points on every shop at Woolworths and Big W, in store and online' and 'freebies and promotions from time to time, as well as new subscriber-only deals from BIG W and other partners'.
A number of customers were fuming over the changes, with some threatening to boycott.
'Stripping the benefits of a reward program when they already make a decent profit — pull their heads in! I hope a movement of cancellations will make them see their error. Let's do it people!' one person wrote.
'I just cancelled mine. It's not worth it in my opinion!' another person wrote.
'I got an email about it today. Sad to see the discount go, I only shopped at Big W because of the monthly discount,' another added.
'Boycotting and cancelling asap,' another irate customer said.
Despite the change, other customers appeared happy with their rewards.
Woolworths told 7NEWS.com.au on Thursday it was looking to create value through its one-off deals.
'In order to continue to keep prices low for every shop at BIG W, we have made the decision to remove the monthly 10 per cent Everyday Extra discount when subscribers shop at BIG W,' Woolworths said.
'Instead, we will be introducing subscriber-only monthly deals at BIG W. We will also continue to evolve the Everyday Extra program to give members new opportunities to earn and save.
'Everyday Extra still provides great value to subscribers, with 10 per cent off one shop a month at Woolworths supermarkets and two times Everyday Rewards points on every shop at both Woolworths and BIG W, helping members save up to $50 a month for a monthly subscription fee of $7.
'Over the past few years, BIG W has been focused on delivering more value to customers every day, reducing prices on thousands of products across their range and keeping prices down.
'For example, 80 per cent of BIG W's clothing range is now under $20 and 50 per cent of BIG W's home range is under $20.'
