Man goes to 'cheapest' Wetherspoons and sees what he can get for just £5
A man headed to one of the most budget-friendly Wetherspoons branches to discover exactly what his fiver could stretch to, and was left impressed. This British pub chain, boasting hundreds of venues nationwide, first opened its doors in north London back in 1979. The establishment has built its reputation on serving affordable traditional pub grub and beverages, making it a popular choice for those seeking a quick and wallet-friendly meal.
Whilst costs differ depending on location and menu selection, the chain remains celebrated for its rock-bottom prices. Food enthusiast Jimmy Howard made his way to one of the cheapest Wetherspoons outlets to test what £5 could deliver.
He dined at The High Main in Newcastle, where he secured the All Day Brunch plus a glass of Pepsi for a mere £5.15. Documenting his visit on TikTok, Jimmy remarked: "Honestly, in this economy you really can't complain."
Initially tackling a sausage, he noted with pleasant surprise that it appeared "surprisingly thick" though felt it required additional seasoning. The food lover described it as "nice and meaty" and generally "pretty decent", awarding it a 6 out of 10 score.
Moving on to the fried egg, he commented: "I'm not gonna lie, the first thing I noticed was the egg was really slippery but when I did actually get a mouthful once again this thing was really unseasoned, kind of cold as well."
Jimmy gave the egg a 4.5 out of 10 rating before cleansing his palate with the Pepsi. He observed: "I really don't know what it is about Pepsi and pubs but it absolutely slaps, this thing's getting a 10 out of 10."
After satisfying his thirst, he continued tucking into his meal and gave the bacon a go. Jimmy discovered it was "actually decently crispy" compared to other establishments he's visited across the UK that dish up bacon.
He awarded it a score of 8 out of 10 before moving on to taste the chips.
Jimmy was pleased with the serving size and reckoned the chips were "nice and fluffy", earning them a 7 out of 10. The final item on the food lover's plate was the baked beans, but he was let down that they were "lukewarm".
Despite this setback, he endorsed the Newcastle boozer if you've got £5 and fancy a "good lunch". Jimmy gave The High Main a whopping 10 out of 10.
His TikTok clip has racked up 188,200 views, more than 7,000 likes and nearly 100 comments so far. Multiple users fired back at his grumble that some of the grub needed seasoning.
One highlighted: "In England, we have a thing called salt and pepper, it's normally on your table so you can put it on your own food." Another commented: "In fairness they have salt and pepper at Spoons for patrons to use as and when."
A third added: "There's literally salt, pepper, vinegar and sauces at every Wetherspoons for seasoning."

Justin Timberlake sparks concern as fans demand refund for 'bare minimum' concerts
Cry Me A River star, Justin Timberlake, has sparked concern over his appearance at his latest gig, with some fans claiming the singer looked 'tired' and 'withdrawn' Justin Timberlake has worried fans with his appearance ahead of his final Forget Tomorrow World Tour show. The Cry Me A River star, 44, is due to wrap up his year-long tour on July 30, but some fans have expressed concern for the dad-of-two - while others have demanded a refund. Justin, who is married to Hollywood actress, Jessica Biel, has been accused of 'hardly singing' and putting on 'lazy' performances during the gigs following a string of 'embarrassing and bare minimum' shows. As he took to the stage in Georgia last week, his supporters urged the SexyBack star to 'take a break and recharge' following the damning backlash he has received. Sticking up for the singer, they wrote: "I can't believe it's almost over! Going to miss you so much, but I know you are TIRED!!! So rest up good and we can do it all over again!" Meanwhile, another said: "I saw you in Atlanta in November and you were amazing. Best concert I've been to. I think you just need a break and to recharge. You've been doing this tour for a year." However, others weren't as understanding as they demanded their money back following the 'lacklustre' shows. One said: "Why is he treating performing like a side job?! How many words did you sing?'" Meanwhile, another quipped: "When are the audience getting paid for their performance? Imagine paying $600 to watch the crowd at a Justin Timberlake concert sing his songs." One insider told the Daily Mail that Justin is 'in a rut' after shooting to fame with the Disney Club as a child and then later boy band, N-Sync, and desperately 'needs to do something new.' After he played in Romania, a viral TikTok received thousands of likes after a fan who paid 'a lot of money' to see the Senorita star called him 'an absolute disappointment.' Justin was late getting onstage, and then reportedly only sang a few words of each song, according to ticket-holders. Expressing their disappointment, the TikTok user shared: "You can't be singing two songs and then taking a break," before calling Justin's behaviour "rude" and "disrespectful" before asking him to "rethink" the concept behind his tour. Many agreed with the claims and multiple fans demanded a refund. Justin's world tour has been marred with controversy since his DWAI arrest in the Hamptons, US, last year where he hit the headlines when he told the officer: "This is going to ruin the tour". The star was sentenced to community service last September after a judge rejected a 'disappointing' plea deal that would have let the singer off with a small fine and public statement about his Hamptons drunk-driving arrest. Justin pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of driving while alcohol impaired instead of the more serious charge of driving while intoxicated and told the judge: "'I should've had better judgment. I understand the seriousness of this.'

Axed Scots Gogglebox couple release heartfelt statement as fans left gutted over exit
Gogglebox stars Roisin Kelly and Joe Kelly have been brutally dumped from the show after three and half years. Gogglebox fan favourite couple Roisin Kelly and Joe Kyle have released a heartfelt statement after they were brutally dumped from the Channel 4 show. The beloved duo, who hail from Glasgow, shocked social media on Monday evening when they announced they had been axed from the programme after three and a half years despite being one of the most popular couples among Gogglebox fans. Roisin, who celebrated her 27th birthday earlier this week, took to her social media accounts on Instagram and TikTok to announce the sad news that she and Joe, 28, had not made the cut for season 26. The pair have released an emotional joint statement following their departure. It reads: "After three and a half years of sitting on the sofa, Channel 4 have decided it's time for Joe and I to stretch our legs and have not asked us back for season 26. Therefore we are leaving the Gogglebox family. We couldn't be more grateful to Studio Lambert for the opportunity, the experience has actually been so mad and we will miss watching tv with you all on Friday nights! "It's been an honour to represent Scotland as some of the first Scottish people on the show and prove we don't actually need subtitles." She continued: "We have made friends for life and after filming every week for years you have become like our family! We could not have asked for better people to work with and we will miss you immensely. "A huge thank you to everyone who has watched us, met us and supported us during this experience, it has for sure been a once in a lifetime opportunity. "Time to watch TV in silence for a bit and put down the popcorn. Miss you already, Roisin and Joe." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Channel 4 have now been advised by viewers that they have made a huge 'mistake' in axing the Scots couple who captured viewers hearts with their hilarious banter during their time on the show. Underneath Roisin's post on TikTok, one fan fumed: "That's a stupid decision by ch4/gogglebox! Sorry to hear this." A second chimed in: "Gutted! Their loss though." A third echoed: "Nooo you were a favourite in our house! Very stupid move from Channel 4." Roisin and Joe were the only Scottish cast members left on the show and fans have been quick to point out that Scotland is no longer being represented on the programme. One complained: "Aw man, this is s****. No Scottish voices on the show anymore! You were great." Another wrote: "Hate this! It was nice to have Scottish people and the West of Scotland sense of humour represented on TV, not worth watching anymore." A third added: "Oh no way! Typical because they are Scottish." Fans are hoping it won't be the last they'll see of Roisin and Joe on their screens and their Gogglebox axe means Roisin may now find the time to return to her podcast, Nags and Brags, which she co-hosts with pal and Clyde 1 breakfast show broadcaster, Cassi Gillespie. Nags and Brags covers a variety of subjects, from dating woes to fashion faux pas, with the show temporarily being put on hiatus while Roisin and Cassie juggled their other work commitments.

Matt finishes In 2025, the focus shifts to more matt textures, which offer a sleek, sophisticated look that complements modern kitchen designs. A matt finish is low-maintenance, perfect for families and busy lifestyles. Textured cabinets Surfaces with a textured finish have become increasingly popular this year and 2025 will see them adding visual interest, feature focal points and even sound absorption in the kitchen. Ribbed effects will be particularly on trend. Pocket doors When entertaining in an open-plan space, it's nice to hide away all the cooking clutter and washing-up without having to leave the kitchen. Pocket doors are space-saving and flexible for different needs. Caramel colours After the recent surge of interest in yellow kitchens, Caramel cabinetry is the next colour trend that is set to be a huge hit in 2025. Adding warmth and lightness to a space with limited natural light, this tone is uplifting and inviting, and it looks super-glam when teamed with contrasting Black. Mix and match Whether it's to create a statement look in an otherwise neutral scheme or simply to introduce two favourite colours to the kitchen, taking a mix and match approach is set to be the look in 2025. For an eye-catching design, grey or white cabinets around the room are the perfect complement to a standout island in a more daring shade such as Dusky Pink or Hunter Green. Meanwhile a fourth said: "OMG it's happening." "I will sell my soul to make it please,' claimed a fifth Someone else added: "I can't physically contain my excitement I have been checking my emails the last 2 days."
