Abu Dhabi, UAE: Abu Dhabi Global Health Week (ADGHW) today honoured exceptional individuals and institutions from around the world whose innovative contributions are advancing the future of health. Winners of the ADGHW Innovation Awards 2025 were recognised for pioneering solutions in digital health, biotechnology, and diagnostics, receiving global recognition and a share of the $200,000 prize fund.
With a total of 91 submissions received from global and local individuals and institutions, the ADGHW Innovation Awards, sponsored by e& and PureHealth, welcomed entries that address critical health challenges across digital health, pharmaceutical and biotechnology innovations, and medical devices and diagnostics. Winners were selected following a rigorous review process led by a distinguished panel of global health experts, policymakers, and technology leaders.

The award ceremony commenced with opening remarks by H.E. Dr. Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, who underscored the award's pivotal role in recognising excellence, fostering innovation, and accelerating progress across the healthcare sector. The event brought together senior government officials, healthcare leaders, and industry partners, including H.E. Dr. Jaleela bint Al-Sayed Jawad Hasan, Minister of Health of the Kingdom of Bahrain; H.E. The rigorous assessment process was overseen by a panel of esteemed experts in healthcare, digital health, and public policy including Dr. Asma Ibrahim Al Mannaei, Executive Director of the Health Life Sciences Sector at DoH; Professor Shafi Ahmed, multi-award-winning surgeon, teacher, futurist, innovator and entrepreneur; John Nosta, president of NostaLab, Lina Shadid, Middle East Health Industries Lead and Zubin Daruwalla, Asia Pacific Health Industries Lead at PwC.

Apr 20, 2025 In a major healthcare breakthrough, the UAE is set to manufacture CAR-T cell therapies locally, cutting treatment costs by up to 90% compared to international prices. The initiative, announced during Abu Dhabi Global Health Week, results from a partnership between Burjeel Holdings and US-based non-profit Caring Cross. CAR-T therapy is a next-generation immunotherapy that reprograms a patient's immune cells to target and destroy cancer cells, primarily used to treat aggressive blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma. With current global treatment prices ranging from USD 350,000 to over USD 1 million, access has remained limited across the MENA region. This new initiative will establish a local manufacturing ecosystem, with Caring Cross supplying the technology, raw materials, and training needed to support point-of-care production. The first phase focuses on leukemia and lymphoma, with plans to expand into treatments for other diseases, including HIV. Abu Dhabi, UAE: Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), the regulator of the healthcare sector in the emirate, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Microsoft to co-develop an advanced 'Population Health Intelligence' framework – a world's first true learning health system. Signed at Abu Dhabi Global Health Week (ADGHW), the framework aims to create a true learning health system capable of continuously predicting, preventing, and responding to public health challenges. The MoU was signed by H.E. Ibrahim Al Jallaf, Executive Director of Digital Health at DoH and Naim Yazbeck, Country General Manager from Microsoft UAE. Around the world, fragmented data systems and reactive models are failing to meet the rising demands for treating complex chronic conditions. As health systems worldwide focus towards shifting from reactive to predictive models, Abu Dhabi is taking a bold step forward, turning billions of data points into life-changing insights driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced analytics into actionable interventions at the individual and population level. The 'Population Health Intelligence' framework is built on two interconnected pillars: Predict: Establish a digital twin of Abu Dhabi that consolidates clinical, behavioural, environmental and demographic data into a unified view, enabling AI to proactively detect and address health anomalies for early investigation. Prevent and Act: Deploy AI-powered, context-aware recommendations tailored to population, district, and individual levels; simulate the future impact of interventions; and enable coordinated response based on real-time feedback.
