Air Selangor: Sungai Way burst pipe repairs to finish by 9pm tonight
According to an Air Selangor spokesperson, as of 4pm today, 60 per cent of the repair work on the 600-millimeter asbestos cement pipe has been completed.
'The issue was caused by a burst in an old pipe. Repair work began at 9.45 pm last Saturday and is expected to be completed by 9pm tonight.
'The delay was due to the damaged pipeline being quite long, about 25 metres, and the presence of multiple utility pipelines at the site, which made excavation challenging,' the spokesperson said when contacted by Bernama.
The burst pipe caused water supply disruptions in several areas, including SS 7, Glenmarie Golf & Country Club, PJU 1A Kelana Idaman, SS 3, Hyatt Saujana/Saujana Glenmarie, Jalan U1/13, Citta Mall, and Taman Perindustrian Hicom Glenmarie.
Air Selangor has deployed nine water tankers to assist residents in the affected areas since 8 am yesterday. Alternative water supply via tankers will continue until the repair work is completed and normal water service is fully restored. — Bernama

Kelantan JKR Begins Early Preparations For Monsoon Season
KOTA BHARU, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan Public Works Department (JKR) has begun early preparations for this year's monsoon season. Its director, Nik Soh Yaacoub, said measures taken include inspecting road structures, ensuring logistics readiness, and repairing damaged roads. 'So far, we have instructed all districts to be prepared, including logistics arrangements, officer assignments, and other steps to ensure flood response plans are implemented smoothly. 'We have also issued directives to repair damaged roads, particularly at identified hotspot locations,' he told reporters after opening the Kelantan JKR Merdeka Trek at the department's headquarters here today. Nik Soh said JKR Kelantan will also work closely with other agencies to ensure swift action if public infrastructure is damaged during floods. It was previously reported that the Works Ministry identified more than 1,000 localities nationwide as high-risk accident areas, or blackspots, including federal roads with inadequate lighting, sharp bends, and damaged structures. On the JKR Merdeka Trek, Nik Soh said the convoy will travel through 10 districts in Kelantan starting today, in the spirit of patriotism ahead of the 2025 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations. Now in its second edition, the trek involves Kelantan JKR staff, including district engineers and division heads, covering more than 500 kilometres over two days. 'The journey starts at Kota Bharu JKR and continues through Bachok JKR, Pasir Puteh JKR, Machang JKR, Kuala Krai JKR, Gua Musang JKR, Tanah Merah JKR, Jeli JKR, Tumpat JKR and Pasir Mas JKR.

Europe's Ariane 6 Rocket Launches Into Space
PARIS, Aug 13 (Bernama-WAM) -- Europe's Ariane 6 heavy-lift rocket launched for the third time on Wednesday, carrying an advanced weather and climate satellite into orbit, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported. The rocket lifted off from Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, and is operated by French company Arianespace on behalf of the European Space Agency. Ariane 6 made its debut with a test flight in July 2024, followed by a second mission in March this year. On its latest flight, Ariane 6 carried Metop-SGA1, a 4,040-kilogram weather satellite. The spacecraft was placed into a polar orbit about 800 kilometres above Earth 64 minutes after liftoff, Arianespace said on X.

Malaysians safe after 6.1 earthquake hits Turkiye
KUALA LUMPUR: All registered Malaysians in Turkiye are confirmed safe after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Balikesir Province. The tremor occurred at 7.53 pm local time on Sunday near Alakir-Sindirgi. The Foreign Ministry confirmed no Malaysians were harmed in the incident. Malaysian missions in Ankara and Istanbul are monitoring the situation closely. Over 70 aftershocks, ranging from 3.5 to 4.6 magnitude, have been recorded.
