News18a day ago
Mysuru (Karnataka) [India], 14 August (ANI): The Bengaluru Blasters put aside the emotions from their previous game and played with panache, as they stormed past the Gulbarga Mystics with a five-wicket win here in the Shriram Capital Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20, according to a release from Maharaja Trophy. Having won the toss at the Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Stadium, the Bengaluru Blasters bowled with precision, striking from the get-go, before a brilliant last-wicket 45-run partnership gave the Gulbarga Mystics something to defend. Once the bowlers were done, LR Chethan took centre stage and guided the Bengaluru Blasters over the line in the 15th over of the chase. The Gulbarga Mystics were off to a quick start as Luvnith Sisodia smashed a couple of sixes off the very first over. That stung the Bengaluru Blasters, who roared back with three quick wickets before the end of the powerplay. Sisodia scored 13 off nine balls before Vidyadhar Patil castled him, after which Nikin Jose was dismissed for 1 by Naveen MG, and Prajwal Pavan added 2 to the cause before Mohsin Khan had his number. The Gulbarga Mystics were in a spot of bother and were looking to turn things around with Smaran Ravichandran (12 off 20 balls), who tried to absorb the pressure, but eventually walked back to the hut as Mohsin Khan accounted for him as well. KV Siddharth (5) and Praveen Dubey (1) were the next to depart, leaving the Mystics at 41/6 at the midway stage. Prithviraj Shekhawat, who scored eight off 21 deliveries, put on a 24-run stand for the seventh wicket along with Lavish Kaushal, before Rohan Naveen knocked him over.Younus Ali Baig (0) became Naveen's second wicket for the night, whilst captain Vijaykumar Vyshak (1) was dismissed by skipper Shubhang Hegde. The score read 67/9 for the Gulbarga Mystics, and that's when Lavish Kaushal decided to go through the gears. He smashed five sixes and two boundaries and went on to score a brilliant 54 not out off 30 deliveries. Kaushal and Shashi Kumar K (8) put on a 45-run stand for the final wicket as the Gulbarga Mystics were bowled out for 112. In response, the Bengaluru Blasters, who have been in perfect batting form of late, started steadily, with openers LR Chethan and Rohan Patil looking good early on. The duo put on 16 in 3 overs before Vijaykumar Vyshak dismissed Patil for seven off nine balls. After that, it was the LR Chethan show through the rest of the power play. The right-handed batter took charge and scored freely. Chethan's counterattack meant the Bengaluru Blasters finished the powerplay with the score at 53/2. Bhuvan Raju, who had walked in at one-drop, scored 2 before Monish Reddy dismissed him. At this point, the Bengaluru Blasters, who had the momentum on their side, scored 22 runs of the sixth over. After that, the Gulbarga Mystics regrouped and struck, picking up crucial wickets. Shubhang Hegde went for 2 runs in the eighth over to Shashi Kumar K, after which Vijaykumar Vyshak picked off Suraj Ahuja (7), and Siddharth Akhil (0) of consecutive deliveries to end the ninth over. LR Chethan, who had reached his half-century in the ninth over as well, had ensured the Bengaluru Blasters were not in danger, and at the halfway mark, the score read 80/5. From then on, LR Chethan had Rohan Naveen for company. The opener was the aggressor in the final phase of the match and finished with an unbeaten 75 off 48 balls, with 10 boundaries and three maximums. At the other end, Rohan Naveen was unbeaten on 16 off 15 deliveries, as the Bengaluru Blasters won at a canter.Brief Scores: Bengaluru Blasters won by 5 wicketsGulbarga Mystics 112/10 in 19.5 overs (Luvnith Sisodia 13 runs off 9 balls, Lavish Kaushal 54* runs off 30 balls; Vidyadhar Patil 2/13, Mohsin Khan 2/18 in 4 overs, Shubhang Hegde 2/10 )Bengaluru Blasters 113/5 in 14.2 overs (Chethan LR 75* runs off 48 balls, Rohan Naveen 16* runs off 15 balls, Vyshakh Vijaykumar 3/19). Mangaluru Dragons overcome top of the table clash with 16-run win over Hubli Tigers

Mysuru (Karnaka) [India], August 16 (ANI): Mangaluru Dragons secured a 16-run win over Hubli Tigers as they played out a nail-biter at the Shriram Capital Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 at the Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Stadium. Macneil Hadley Noronha and Aneesh K V helped the Dragons notch up a formidable score of 195 in the top-of-the-table clash. Followed by a brilliant four-wicket haul from Kranthi Kumar to secure the victory over the Tigers. The Dragons struck early in the first innings when Lochan S Gowda (5) was run out by Taha in the first over. In the third, Sharath Belur Ravi fell for 2, to Achar. However, opener Macneil Hadley Noronha (56) steadied the innings with a fluent knock studded with four boundaries and two sixes, forging a 107-run stand in just 77 balls with Aneesh KV (62). Trying to accelerate in the 15th over, Aneesh perished on the first ball of Nithin Shanthaveri's spell. Aadarsh Prajwal S (19) came in swinging, but Noronha's dismissal soon after, caught by M D Taha, stalled the Dragons' charge. Nithin then removed Aadarsh to leave them wobbling at 147/5 in the 17th over. Shivaraj S (16) and Kranthi Kumar (30) wrestled back momentum by smashing Nithin for 21 runs in the next over. Manvanth Kumar L responded with a tight 7-run over, but the Dragons' lower order roared back, with Shivaraj and Kranthi adding 48 off just 17 balls to push the total to a commanding 195. Hubli's chase began in dramatic fashion as in-form M D Taha (0), fresh off back-to-back centuries, fell for a duck in the first over, caught off Shreyas Gopal. Impact player Prakhar Chaturvedi provided the impetus, but departed for 37 in the sixth over with the Tigers at 72/2. KV Aneesh dropped Devdutt Paddikal at 44, a reprieve the Tigers hoped to capitalise on. However, Karthikeya K P (4) was caught at the boundary soon after. Devdutt brought up a brisk half-century in just 30 balls, but was dismissed for 60, with Rakshith S (24) following quickly. With four overs left, the Tigers needed 41 runs, but Kranthi Kumar, fresh from a five-wicket haul in the previous match, swung the game. He removed Manvanth (16) first, then delivered a decisive penultimate over, while Abhinav Manohar was caught by Noronha for 28, off Shreevatsha Acharya (Impact player). Kranthi Kumar returned to the fray soon after, dismissing Ritesh Bhatkal (3) and Nischith Pai (1) in quick succession. His spell left Hubli stranded at 179/9 after 20 overs. Kranthi finished with a match-winning burst in the death overs, sealing the Dragons' triumph and capping off an all-round team performance. Brief Scores: Mangaluru Dragons 195/5 in 20 overs (Aneesh KV 62, Macneil Noronha 56; Nithin Shanthaveri 2/54) vs Hubli Tigers 179/9 in 20 overs (Prakhar Chaturvedi 37, Devdutt Padikkal 60; Shreyas Gopal 2/33). Shubhankar Sharma needs strong second round to make cut

Copenhagen [Denmark], August 16 (ANI): Shubhankar Sharma opened his campaign at the Danish Golf Championship with an even-par 71 at the Par-71 Furesø Golf Klub, leaving him tied for 70th and in need of a strong second round to make the cut. The Indian golfer, who has not made a cut since the Indian Open in March, will be eager to turn his fortunes around and extend his week in Denmark. Veer Ahlawat carded a 2-over 73, placing him tied for 113th and facing an uphill task to progress, as per a press release from the Danish Golf Championship. Sharma began well with a birdie on the sixth but faltered with three straight bogeys from the eighth to the tenth. He recovered with birdies on the 12th, 16th, and 18th, offsetting a bogey on the 14th to finish level par. At the top of the leaderboard, England's Marco Penge produced a flawless bogey-free round of 7-under 64, setting a new course record and taking a two-shot lead. His round featured birdies on the third, sixth, 11th, 13th, and 14th holes, capped by an eagle on the 18th. Penge, who has recorded six top-30 finishes in seven starts this season, currently sits fifth in the Race to Dubai standings. Five players share second place, two shots back, including 2018 Open Champion Francesco Molinari, former Danish Golf Championship winner Rasmus Højgaard, Canadian Aaron Cockerill, Germany's Jeremy Paul, and Scotland's Marc Warren. Rasmus carded eight birdies in his 5-under 66. Last year's runner-up, Lucas Bjerregaard, is tied for seventh with six others. Nicolai Højgaard had a memorable day, holing out for eagle twice in the space of three holes. After being two over through 10 holes, he eagled the par-4 12th from 111 yards and repeated the feat at the 14th from 144 yards, later adding a birdie on the last for a 3-under 68 and a share of 14th place. Mahesh Bhupathi sees bright future for Padel sports

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 15 (ANI): Legendary Indian tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi believes padel sports is growing rapidly and will generate a lot of excitement within the sports ecosystem over the next five years around the world. After making a successful India debut in February this year, the World Padel League (WPL) organised its much-anticipated third season. The league, supported by the Indian Padel Federation, will be held between August 12 and August 16 at the Nesco Centre in Mumbai, promising fans world-class padel action.'Padel sports is growing rapidly and will generate a lot of excitement within the sports ecosystem over the next five years. We would love to see Indian players participating in the World Paddle League in the future, and we are also trying to create an angle where the Indian team can play against each other," Mahesh Bhupathi told reporters. On Day 3 of the WPL, there were dominant displays and nail-biting finishes. The Khan Tigers powered past Vernost Jaguars in a commanding 19-10 victory, while the defending champions SG Pipers Cheetahs held their nerve to edge out Vedanta Leopards in a thrilling 15-14 contest, sealing their spot in the semi-finals alongside Game Changers Lions and Hubtown Panorama Panthers on Friday. The Tigers got off to a flying start in the women's doubles, with Alejandra Salazar and Veronica Virseda crushing Lucia Martinez and Giorgia Marchetti 6-0. The second set brought a clash of youth and experience, as Rama Valenzuela and Pol Hernandez of the Jaguars went toe-to-toe with seasoned Tigers pair Lucho Capra and Juan Bellauti. In a tense tiebreak, the Tigers held their nerve to take the set 7-6. Capra later remarked that their on-court communication was key to adapting and finding the correct positioning under pressure. The final set saw Jose Rico and Bellauti face Miguel and Nuno Deus. The sibling duo put up an intense fight, but the Tigers sealed a 6-4 win to secure a 19-10 overall triumph. This season saw its first CoC (Code of Conduct) breach – Level 1: Disobeying an Umpire's Instructions – with Lucho Capra and Juan Belluati entering 10 minutes late for their set. In case of a level 2 warning, 2 points will be deducted from their overall score. (ANI)
