Police smash major MDMA "juice" syndicate, seize RM5 million in drugs
Authorities seized drugs valued at RM5.03 million in the large-scale operation conducted on June 26 between 2pm and 5pm.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed the arrests, which included twelve local men and one Vietnamese woman aged between 20 and 41.
He said the syndicate was dismantled following weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering.
'These labs were sophisticated setups hidden in residential areas and operated by individuals with defined roles.
"Some acted as chemists, others as runners, all working together in a network that's been active since December 2022.
"We found 1,488 juice boxes suspected to contain MDMA, amounting to 372.62 kg,' he said during a press conference at the Selangor Police Headquarters on Tuesday.
Hussein further stated that the first raid took place at a terraced house in Ampang, Selangor, where three local men were arrested.
He said that police uncovered a fully operational drug lab processing MDMA into juice, along with ecstasy pills, Erimin 5 tablets and other related substances.
A second raid in Pandan Perdana, Kuala Lumpur, resulted in the arrest of six suspects namely, five local men and the Vietnamese woman at another illicit juice lab.
Officers also recovered hundreds of bottles containing MDMA-laced liquid, ketamine, ecstasy pills, cannabis, Erimin 5 tablets and more MDMA processing equipment from both the residence and a vehicle.
Subsequent raids in parking lots across Kuchai Lama, Taman Permata, Kuchai Jaya and Taman Connaught resulted in the arrest of four more local men, with significant quantities of MDMA-laced liquid recovered from their vehicles.
'In total, we seized 689.24 kg of MDMA in liquid form, 1.68 kg of MDMA powder, 25.4 kg of ketamine, 5.3 kg of ecstasy pills and nearly 0.73 kg of Erimin 5,' he added.
Hussein revealed that several suspects functioned as 'chemists' in the operation while others acted as runners, receiving payments ranging from RM3,000 to RM25,000 monthly.
The syndicate, believed to have been active since December 2022, used rented terraced homes as production sites and transported products in private vehicles for distribution in local markets.
He stated that all thirteen suspects have been remanded under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, facing potential sentences of death or life imprisonment and at least twelve strokes of the cane.
Eleven suspects were remanded for seven days from June 27 to July 3, while one, identified as the alleged coordinator, remained in custody for three additional days from June 29 to July 2.
According to Hussein, preliminary urine tests indicated nine of the thirteen tested positive for ketamine, methamphetamine, or benzodiazepines; the remaining four tested negative.

The charge under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, carries a punishment of either the death penalty or life imprisonment and whipping with a minimum of 15 strokes. The court set Aug 19 for mention pending the chemist's report. Wan was ordered to be remanded further pending the date, as the charge against him has no provision for bail. Kelantan influencer, family arrested in RM5mil drug bust
KOTA BARU: The arrest of a 34-year-old influencer, her husband, and several family members in connection with drug trafficking reflects the police's firm commitment to tackling the drug menace in Kelantan. State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusof Mamat said the arrests were part of a broader and ongoing operation, with more developments expected soon. "The arrest of the influencer and five other suspects on June 27 proves that we are serious in our efforts to combat the drug problem. "This is not the beginning, and it certainly won't be the end. "I've said before, more disclosures will follow," he said when contacted today. Mohd Yusof said the arrests came just months after he first warned about emerging networks involved in drug trafficking and money laundering in the state. He said police have been closely monitoring several people believed to be linked to these illegal activities and would not hesitate to act, regardless of their background or public image. The suspects, aged between 25 and 40, were arrested in a series of coordinated raids in Pasir Mas and Tumpat on June 27, during which police seized 35.4kg of methamphetamine worth more than RM5 million. The operation was jointly carried out by the Federal Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) and the Kelantan police contingent, following a year-long investigation. Today, the influencer and five others were remanded for another seven days to facilitate police investigation. The extension order, which ends on July 11, was obtained at the Pasir Mas court.

Police bust syndicate using karaoke rooms to distribute drugs
JOHOR BARU: Police have dismantled a drug syndicate whose modus operandi involved converting rooms in rented apartments into makeshift "karaoke centres" to lure customers and distribute narcotics. Johor police chief Datuk M Kumar said intelligence gathered since early this year led to the arrest of nine individuals and the seizure of various drugs worth over RM1.7 million in a series of raids last month. The raids were carried out at three locations around the city between 3.30pm on June 20 and 6.30am on June 21. "In the first raid, we arrested three suspects and seized a quantity of drugs at a unit in a gated and guarded apartment. "The second raid, conducted at another unit on the same floor, led to the arrest of six more suspects. "Both apartments had rooms that were modified into 'karaoke centres' used to attract customers, to whom drugs were then sold and distributed," he told a press conference at the Johor police headquarters today. Police later raided a third apartment, where more drugs were found. Kumar said the syndicate is believed to have been active since March. The suspects arrested include four local men, one of whom, aged 52, is believed to be the mastermind, as well as a local woman, a Singaporean man, two Vietnamese women and a Laotian woman. They range in age from 21 to 64. Among the drugs seized were 10.04kg of ecstasy powder, 140g of syabu, 61.5g of ketamine, 20 Erimin 5 pills, 370 yaba pills, 190 ecstasy pills and 33ml of suspected drug-laced liquid, all with a street value exceeding RM1.7 million. "These drugs could have supplied around 34,000 users. The presence of foreign suspects also suggests they may have had international clientele," Kumar said. In addition to drugs, police also seized drug processing and repackaging equipment, two cars, RM1,500 in cash and various jewellery items, bringing the total value of the seizure and forfeiture to more than RM1.9 million. All suspects tested positive for methamphetamine. Background checks showed that four local male suspects had prior criminal records related to drugs and other offences. "The 64-year-old Singaporean man was also listed as 'wanted' in his home country," Kumar said. All suspects are currently in remand until tomorrow and are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty upon conviction. The foreigners are also being investigated under Sections 6(1)(c) and 6(3) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for immigration-related offences. Kumar added that drug syndicates in Johor typically operate in small groups of four to five members. "This is the largest syndicate busted in the state so far this year, involving nine people, including the syndicate leader," he added.
