Kenneth Walker returns to Seahawks practice, for now; Tory Horton injury update

Kenneth Walker was back. Again. The Seahawks' lead running back's on-again, off-again training camp was back on Sunday morning. Walker was full go for the practice in shells, helmet and shorts. He ran with the ball and caught passes from quarterback Sam Darnold on the first-team offense in 11-on-11 scrimmaging. Walker has missed Seattle's bulldozing running and run-blocking by the offensive line in each of the team's first two preseason games. The Seahawks have run for 170 yards on the Raiders and 268 yards against the Chiefs. All those yards have been with Zach Charbonnet and George Holani as lead runners, not Walker. Walker's been sidelined for multiple-day stretches this month with what coach Mike Macdonald has described as a sore foot. Macdonald said following Walker's latest return to full duty the plan is for the lead rusher to be full go Thursday. That's when the Seahawks' starters practice against the Packers' starters in a joint practice in Green Bay. Walker missed six of 17 games last season. He finished the year on injured reserve with an ankle injury in December. He's yet to play a full 17-game season in any of his first three years in the NFL, since Seattle drafted him in the second round from Michigan State in 2022. The Seahawks held Walker out of offseason practices this spring. 'He looks great. He looks fast. He's hitting his targets, reading it out pretty well. It's exciting to have him out there, you know,' Macdonald said Sunday. 'When he's been out there, it's been pretty good.' When he's been out there. The Seahawks are into the final week of their preseason. There is a growing sense Walker needs to string together full-go practices to get a better feel for new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak's and new line coach John Benton's outside-zone run-blocking scheme. The new system demands running backs have precise timing and synchronizing with the blockers at the assigned point of attack, at exactly the assigned time in the play. Macdonald was asked where he was in the balance of protecting Walker from more injuries with him needing to get practice repetitions full go before the opening game Sept. 7 against San Francisco. 'Yeah, it's a great question. It's a balance,' the head coach said. 'There's a lot of walk-through reps that need to be had. But at some point, to your point, you've got to do it on the field so that you feel confident here and execute at a high level and play your best football. 'That's something that we're working through.' Tory Horton update Tory Horton missed practice Sunday. He came out wearing his practice jersey over sweatpants and sneakers, not cleats, without his helmet. The rookie fifth-round draft choice from Colorado State watched Marquez Valdes-Scantling take his place as the third wide receiver in the starting offense during full-team scrimmaging later in the workout. Horton left the preseason game Friday against Kansas City and went into the locker room with what Macdonald said was an ankle injury. Sunday, all Macdonald specified about Horton's injury was that it was, again, 'an ankle.' Asked if the team believed it was a series injury, Macdonald said: 'Not to my knowledge.'

Kraken Interested In Wild Forward; Might Cost The Jared McCann

The Seattle Kraken and Minnesota Wild completed a trade earlier in the off-season, with the Kraken acquiring veteran forward Frederik Gaudreau, but a new report from RG indicates that the Kraken could be interested in acquiring another center. Marco Rossi and the Wild have been at odds in contract negotiations for quite some time now, and no resolution seems to be in sight. Rossi is a 23-year-old center coming off the back of a 24-goal and 60-point campaign. Drafted with the ninth overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, the 5-foot-9 Austrian plays a smart two-way game with great playmaking instincts despite his small frame. Rossi has made it his mission to add weight to his frame this off-season, trying to put to rest the claims that he isn't big or strong enough to warrant the contract he believes he deserves. RG reported that the Vancouver Canucks remain interested in Rossi, but the price tag is unknown. For the Kraken, the exact offer is still unknown, but one of their sources claims it could involve the franchise's leading scorer, Jared McCann. 'Look, I get the age difference there, and I'd imagine McCann would be part of a package, but when you look at both of the teams and what they're probably willing to offer in Rossi's age range, I don't see a match,' one of the sources told RG. 'I think you make McCann the centerpiece of a package going back to Minnesota. He definitely fits what Guerin wants, and he can play center, too, if they need. The Kraken have a ton of middle-six guys, but how about a 1-2 punch of Beniers and Rossi? So maybe they can find a match.' McCann, while not being shopped by the Kraken, has been prominent in trade rumors dating back to the trade deadline. He's entering the fourth year of a five-year, $5 million contract and could fetch a strong haul due to his age, production, and cost efficiency. It's rare to find a proven center at Rossi's age, which makes the deal enticing. The Kraken have plenty of young centers in their prospect pool, but outside of Matty Beniers and Shane Wright, who haven't necessarily broken out yet, no one is a sure thing, and not as sure a thing as Rossi has proved to be. The Wild could very well commit to Rossi long-term and meet his demands, but if not, the Kraken will continue to be a team to watch.

Jalen Milroe will start, play entire game vs. Packers on Saturday

Jalen Milroe will get his time in the spotlight this weekend. Via multiple reporters, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald announced on Thursday that Milroe will start and play the entire preseason finale against the Packers on Saturday afternoon. Milroe, a third-round pick in this year's draft, is in line to be Seattle's third quarterback in 2025 behind starter Sam Darnold and backup Drew Lock. Milroe played 42 percent of Seattle's offensive snaps in the preseason opener before taking 33 percent of the offensive snaps in last week's matchup with the Chiefs. In his two appearances, Milroe has completed 9-of-15 passes for 107 yards. He's also rushed eight times for 56 yards. Seahawks-Packers is set to kick off at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game will be nationally televised on NFL Network.
