‘Hogwarts Legacy' Expansion Cancelled Despite 30 Million Copies Sold
Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacy is easily one of the biggest success stories in gaming in the last few years, a totally new series (albeit based on a big IP) that has sold over 30 million copies at this point, previously having beat out its launch year's Call of Duty, an extremely rare feat.
Now, Bloomberg is reporting that a big, unannounced expansion for the game, set to release this year with a 'Definitive Edition' of the game, is cancelled.
This is confusing, as we couldn't have been more than half a year or so away from this launching, and presumably a bunch of it has already been developed. But the report says the total amount of content did not match the cost of the expansion. Cost-cutting has been a theme as of late with WB, having cancelled its previously announced Wonder Woman game and closing that studio. It began laying off Rocksteady devs after the disastrous Suicide Squad release,
This is somewhat reminiscent of what happened with GTA 5, a game that sold an incredible amount of copies and had some single player DLC planned, but ultimately it was all scrapped in favor of GTA Online and pumping out content for that instead. That did in fact work out quite well, but in the case of Hogwarts Legacy, there's no online component to fall back to, much to David Zaslav's dismay.

On the other hand I…can sort of understand this. The reason being is that there is a Hogwarts Legacy sequel in development that was greenlit the moment WB realized the game was going to be a hit. Releasing an expansion two and a half years after the game arrived instead of just throwing all that effort and money into the already in-development sequel does not seem like the craziest decision ever. That said, if this was going to happen, it probably should have been killed well before this.
One of the most pressing questions about the Hogwarts Legacy sequel is, well, are they doing Hogwarts again? The original game dove deep into the school and its surrounding landscape, and it was the central location for all the books. Do you just use that same zone and layer a new story on top of it? The game dipped briefly into other locations like Azkaban, but it would be surprising to see a game avoid Hogwarts itself in any meaningful way. But that raises some questions about how it will be handled. But no, no expansion, which will no doubt disappoint some.

WBD Shareholders Nix David Zaslav's 2024 Pay Package In Non-Binding Vote
Shareholders at Warner Bros. Discovery gave a thumbs down to the company's executive compensation for 2024 — multi-million dollar paydays led by CEO David Zaslav's $51.9 million package. The vote, informally called say-on-pay, is required at publicly traded companies but nonetheless non-binding. Boards of directors insist that they take the votes to heart and if there's dissent engage seriously with their biggest shareholders, and that is sometimes the case. At Warner Bros. Discovery, however, Zaslav's pay has been in the spotlight for years, including on the picket lines during the recent Hollywood strikes. Discovery To Junk Status On "Weak Credit Metrics" That Would Get Worse If Company Splits Stockholders at the company's annual meeting declined to approve, 'on a non-binding, advisory basis, the 2024 compensation of the Company's named executive officers,' WBD noted in an SEC filing with the result of votes cast showing that 59% of shareholders who cast ballots voted against WBD's pay plans. The general rule of thumb is that support less than 70% is notable. Waner Bros. Discovery stock has floundered since the merger three years ago, which burdened the company with debt. Credit ratings agency S&P last month downgraded it to junk status citing 'weak credit metrics.' It's not just that. Pay experts noted that members of the board's compensation committee decided to adjust the metrics they themselves set in order to pay the chief executive more. Public companies report the pay of their top five highest paid executive officers in annual proxy statements filed with the SEC each spring for the previous year (if they operate on a calendar year). Pay is one of a handful of items along with the election of directors and shareholder resolutions that stockholders vote on at annual meetings. Leading proxy advisory firm Institutional Shareholder Services, which puts out highly reseached reports each year ahead of annual meetings to guide shareholders, recommended voting against WBD's executive pay and said the 'compensation committee demonstrated only limited responsiveness to shareholder concerns following consecutive years of low say-on-pay support.' In a statement today, Warner Bros. Discovery's Board of Directors said it 'appreciates the views of all its shareholders and takes the results of the annual advisory vote on executive compensation seriously. The Compensation Committee of the Board looks forward to continuing its regular practice of engaging in constructive dialogue with our shareholders.' Death Stranding 2 PS5 File Size Revealed and It's Good News
is just around the corner. Later this month, players around the world will get their hands on Hideo Kojima's next game. Typically, a game of this scope may require players to delete tons of games from their PS5. Luckily, it seems that may not be entirely the case. In a recent tweet from JeuxActu Editor-in-Chief Maxime Chao, he posts that he is about to start Death Stranding 2. In terms of its file size, the journalist confirms the game clocks in at 92.80 GB on PS5. 'Here we go, I'm launching into Metal Gear Sol… uh… Death Stranding 2,' reads the translated tweet. ' 92.80 GB for the game on PS5.' Although that does seem like a lot, that isn't so bad considering how big the initial release was on the PS5. Death Stranding Director's Cut is 68 GB. This puts Death Stranding 2 around 25 GB more than its predecessor. For a modern, single-player, open-world RPG that looks as good as Kojima's upcoming game, this really isn't that bad. Considering most modern triple-A games, like Call of Duty or NBA 2K25, go above 100 GB, this seems manageable by comparison. Death Stranding 2 will release for PS5 on June 26 for $69.99. There is a Digital Deluxe Edition priced at $79.99. That slightly more expensive version comes with the base game, 48 hours early access, Machine Gun [MP] (Lv.1) early unlock, Quokka, Chiral Cat and Why Me? Patches, Battle Skeleton: Gold (Levels 1, 2, 3), Boost Skeleton: Gold (Levels 1, 2, 3), Bokka Skeleton: Gold (Levels 1, 2, 3,). The Kojima production will be PS5 Pro enhanced.
