Keaschall and Larnach hit homers off former teammate Paddack, helping Twins beat Tigers 6-3
The AL Central-leading Tigers lost for just the third time in nine games. The rebuilding Twins had dropped seven of their previous nine games.
Keaschall was activated from the 60-day injured list earlier the day and in the eighth game of his career, he hit a two-run homer in the first inning to give Minnesota a 3-0 lead. His RBI single in a two-run fifth put the Twins ahead 6-1.
Larnach's 15th homer of the season and second in two days was a solo shot that gave Minnesota a 4-1 lead in the fourth.
Zebby Matthews (3-3) allowed one run on five hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings.
Paddack (4-10) gave up four runs on six hits over four innings in his second start since Detroit acquired him from Minnesota for catcher Enrique Jimenez last week before the trade deadline.
Jahmai Jones hit a two-out, two-run triple in the eighth inning to pull the Tigers within three runs.
Detroit gave All-Star outfielder Riley Greene the night off and All-Star second baseman Gleyber Torres was a late scratch, missing the game with a tight right forearm.

We've turned the calendar to August, which means that football season is right around the corner. The pre-season has technically already kicked off, but the main event is still a few weeks away. What is on a lot of football fans' minds right now is their fantasy team and how they can out-maneuver their league mates to take home that ever-elusive Fantasy Football Championship. That is the running back who isn't going to start for their team, but could still find fantasy relevance, usually due to an injury to the starter. Recently, the team at Bleacher Report ranked every team by their backup running back situation to help the fantasy community identify some of those worthwhile handcuffs, and one Vikings running back features highly on the list. Minnesota acquired Jordan Mason from the San Francisco 49ers, and he figures to provide a nice complement to starting running back Aaron Jones. So much so that Bleacher Report ranks him as their 4th-best "handcuff" running back for this season. It shouldn't be surprising to see Mason figuring prominently on this list. Last season as a member of the 49ers, Mason got to see extended action as the team's starting running back while oft-injured Christian McCaffery dealt with Achilles' tendon and knee issues. That season, Mason rushed for 789 yards and three touchdowns. Not overwhelming numbers, but he showed enough promise for the Vikings to bring him in as insurance for their own aging running back. With uncertainty around new starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy, Mason could have a larger-than-expected role in the offense if McCarthy struggles early and head coach Kevin O'Connell decides to lean heavily on the run game. Mason could also wind up vulturing touchdowns from Jones in goal-to-go situations if the team opts to try and preserve Jones and save him from some of those scrums. Mason comes in behind only Seattle Seahawks' Zach Charbonnet, Pittsburgh Steelers' Jaylen Warren, and Detroit Lions' David Montgomery -- who arguably shares starting duties with Jahmyr Gibbs.

Nebraska football corner Andrew Marshall generating buzz
Nebraska football secondary coach Addison Williams had high praise for transfer corner Andrew Marshall. Williams met with the media on Tuesday afternoon. Marshall was one of the key additions from the transfer portal. He came to Nebraska on December 25, transferring with two seasons of eligibility remaining. He was a star player at the University of Idaho. The versatile corner played in 26 games, starting 14 of them. He totaled 72 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, eight pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery during that time. The 2024 season saw him produce at a high level. He recorded 50 tackles, one tackle for loss, three pass breakups, and a forced fumble and recovery. He also proved his worth on special teams. He tallied eight kickoff returns for 327 yards and a touchdown as well as 14 punt returns for 150 yards and a touchdown. Marshall earned first-team All-Big Sky honors as a corner and honorable mention as a kickoff returner in 2024. Now, Williams is seeing Marshall's playmaking ability, as he told the media on Tuesday afternoon, as transcribed by Justin Frommer. 'He is a pro. He has a chip on his shoulder coming from the FCS. Hes using it as motivation to prove himself.' Marshall's versatility, both in the secondary and on special teams, is certainly something to be optimistic about as a Husker fan. Red Sox's Craig Breslow Takes Shot at Rafael Devers During Roman Anthony Update

The Boston Red Sox suffered a loss to the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday but there was a major win behind the scenes. The team announced it reached an eight-year, $130 million extension agreement with rookie standout Roman Anthony. The deal could prove to be a major coup for the Red Sox if Anthony's promising debut extends into the rest of his early career and it offered a clear direction for the franchise after a listless trade deadline and a surprising decision to trade away franchise slugger Rafael Devers. Devers was performing as the team's best hitter when the Red Sox announced that they had traded him to the San Francisco Giants following his public refusals to change positions. At the time, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow defended that decision as one that would instill more of a winning culture in the team. And during the announcement of Anthony's extension, Breslow doubled down on his lightly-veiled criticism of the former star with another shot.
