Dwayne Bravo has been appointed new coach of TKR for CPL 2025 season. Sharing his thoughts on the transition, Dwayne Bravo said: 'When it comes to leadership, it's important to plan for the future. Once I felt I had achieved enough as the captain of Red Steel (2013, 2014) and TKR (2015 to 2019), I wanted to see who is the next best person to take over, to make sure that the legacy continues and the franchise remains in safe hands. At that time, Pollard was the best person for that role. Until I retired (in 2024), it was good to play under his captaincy, someone I regard as one of the best leaders in this format. Pollard and myself, we share similar values in life, on and off the field.' Image credit: X (Formerly Twitter)

‘Class and decency aren't his strengths,' ‘Always resort to personal attacks': Kaneria slams Pakistan teammate Afridi, backs Irfan Pathan

Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has voiced his support for ex-India cricketer Irfan Pathan when he opened up on his heated exchange with former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi. The all-rounder from Baroda divulged that Afridi often tried to provoke him with sharp remarks and personal comments while highlighting some of the intense moments they shared both on and off the field. Coming in Irfan's support is Afridi's teammate in the Pakistan cricket team, Kaneria, who said Afridi has always resorted to 'personal attacks' and that 'class and decency are not his strengths'. 'Irfan bhai, you're absolutely right. He always resorts to personal attacks, be it on someone's family or their religion. Class and decency clearly aren't his strengths,' Kaneria posted on X, formerly Twitter. Earlier, Pathan narrated an incident from the 2006 Pakistan tour, when both the Indian and Pakistani teams were flying together from Karachi to Lahore. 'During the 2006 tour, we were flying from Karachi to Lahore. Both teams were travelling together. Afridi came and put his hand on my head and messed up my hair. He asked me, 'How are you kid?'' Pathan recalled during the interview with Lallantop. 'I thought since when did you become my father. He behaved like a child. I was neither talking to him nor saying anything. After this Afridi said some bad things to me. His seat was near mine.' Irfan explained how he responded, which silenced Afridi for the rest of the flight. 'Pakistan allrounder Abdul Razzaq was sitting with me then. I asked him what kind of meat is available here. He told me meat of different animals are available. After this I asked whether dog meat is available. Razzaq was surprised to hear me and said, 'Hey Irfan why are you saying this?' To this, Pathan replied: ''He (Afridi) has eaten dog meat, he has been barking for so long'. 'After this Afridi could not say anything. If he said anything I would have said look he is barking more,' recalled Pathan with a chuckle.

SA20 aims to be second-biggest league after IPL: Graeme Smith

New Delhi [India], August 18 (ANI): The SA20 league commissioner Graeme Smith believes they have established enough of a foothold to become the second-biggest league in the world after the Indian Premier League (IPL). The SA20 has grown rapidly since its launch, and last year's auction saw almost 600 players register from across the globe. This year's list of retained and pre-signed stars already boasts big names such as Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and England's Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow.'When we started, we were built up against the ILT20 and Big Bash, and we set ourselves big ambitions upfront. In the southern hemisphere window, we want to dominate, and we want to be the biggest league outside the IPL. Three years in, we've set the standard. Every decision we make is around making sure that we uphold those standards," Smith said as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. 'I expect there will be a top number of leagues that will elevate themselves in a calendar cycle, and that will be the priority for players, investors and fans. Our ambitions are to remain right at the top of that alongside IPL," he added. The new season kicks off on December 26, with the auction in early September expected to set the tone for another blockbuster edition of South Africa's premier T20 features six teams, each permitted a maximum of 6 retained or pre-signed players, comprising a maximum of three South African and three overseas players during the player retention window, which closed on 18 champions MI Cape Town get their title defence underway with a blockbuster clash against Durban's Super Giants on Friday, December 26, 2025, at the picturesque Newlands in the tournament opener.
