Maharashtra sees slight petrol-diesel price relief; Mumbai remains cheapest

Mumbai, June 25 (UNI) Maharashtra recorded a marginal decline in fuel prices today, offering modest relief to consumers amid persistent inflation concerns.
The 6 AM revision showed petrol continuing above 104 per litre across most districts, while diesel remained over 90 statewide, with international crude trends and local levies maintaining pressure on household budgets.
Mumbai maintained its position as the lowest-cost metro, with petrol at 103.50 and diesel at 90.03 per litre. Significant variations persist across regions: Ahmednagar (104.30 petrol, 90.83 diesel), Aurangabad (104.73 petrol, 91.24 diesel), and Beed report the highest at 105.50 for petrol alongside 92.03 for diesel. Multiple districts, including Hingoli, Parbhani, and Yavatmal, matched Beed's peak petrol rate.
The slight downward adjustment reflects recent global oil market movements, though Value-Added Tax (VAT), transportation costs, and state-specific taxes continue to influence regional disparities. Daily price revisions by oil marketing companies ensure alignment with international benchmarks.
While today's dip provides fractional respite, economists note fuel costs remain a critical inflation indicator, with further volatility expected amid fluctuating crude markets and domestic fiscal policies.

All govt services will be provided online in AP: CM

Vijayawada, June 25 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has announced that all government services will be accessible online by 15 August 2025, removing the need for citizens to visit government offices for any administrative matter. Speaking at the FICCI's National Executive Committee meeting held here on Wednesday, the Chief Minister announced that 503 services are available online at present, allowing citizens to access government functions via WhatsApp, making it clear that there is no need to people to come to the Government offices as AP as India's first fully digital state administration. "The digital governance initiative extends beyond simple online services to include voice-activated bookings for state transport, where citizens can dial a number and specify their travel requirements to receive instant bus schedules and booking information. This represents a fundamental shift towards conversational government interfaces accessible to all literacy levels." he observed. Complementing the digital transformation, Mr. Naidu alluded to a real-time data infrastructure that will monitor 40-50 parameters, including temperature, humidity, air quality, wind direction, reservoir water levels, groundwater conditions, and soil parameters, across the state. The network will provide advanced warning systems for cyclones, floods, cloud bursts, and thunderbolts, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a global leader in environmental monitoring technology. "Now, only by using that real-time data can give 95% accuracy," Naidu stated, emphasising the transformative potential of continuous environmental surveillance. The Chief Minister revealed an ambitious citizen identification system that combines geotagging with Aadhaar authentication to create comprehensive, family-based data profiles, adding that the system will link every household through geo-mapping with family units, allowing for the accurate delivery of government services, medicines, or emergency aid directly to specific households during crises or natural disasters. AP is going to establish 14-15 airports within one hour's reach of major population centres whilst expanding the crucial Kolkata-Chennai railway corridor from two to four tracks, he announced. These technological advances support Naidu's broader economic vision of transforming Andhra Pradesh into India's first trillion-dollar state economy by 2047. The state recorded 21% GST growth last year, with the Chief Minister targeting 15% annual growth to increase per capita income from Rs 2.7 lakh to Rs 65 lakh. Mr Harsha Vardhan Agarwal, President of FICCI and Vice Chairman & Managing Director of Emami Limited, praised Naidu's leadership in transforming AP from a largely agrarian state into a beacon of digital governance, noting the state's impressive 8.1% GSDP growth rate and economy reaching approximately Rs 16 lakh crore. Vijay Sankar, Vice President of FICCI and Chairman of the Sanmar Group, acknowledged Naidu's unique achievement of transforming two states and building two capital cities during his political career. Sankar expressed FICCI's commitment to supporting Andhra Pradesh's ambitious target of achieving 15% GSDP growth and transforming into the country's best state by 2047. M Prabhakar Rao, Chair of FICCI AP State Council and Chairman of NSL Group, highlighted the state's transformative initiatives, including MSME Parks in all 175 constituencies and the establishment of Ratan Tata Innovation Centres to foster entrepreneurship. Union Cabinet approves Pune Metro Rail phase-2 project

New Delhi, June 25 (UNI) In a major boost to Pune's urban transport infrastructure, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today approved the Pune Metro Rail Project Phase-2, with an estimated cost of Rs 3,626.24 crore. The 12 km extension, spanning two elevated corridors will connect key city areas, including fast-developing suburbs like Chandani Chowk, Bavdhan, Kothrud, Kharadi, and Wagholi, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in a media briefing here after the Cabinet meeting. He said two new corridors will extend the existing Vanaz-Ramwadi metro line, enhancing connectivity across Pune. Corridor 2A will run from Vanaz to Chandani Chowk, while Corridor 2B will connect Ramwadi to Wagholi/Vitthalwadi. The project will include 13 new stations, contributing to seamless public transport options for thousands of commuters. The project is set for completion within four years. The ambitious project will be equally funded by the Central and State Governments, along with contributions from external bilateral and multilateral agencies. Once completed, the new corridors are projected to significantly ease congestion along major arterial roads like Paud Road and Nagar Road. The Metro's integration with intercity bus services will also enhance connectivity to other cities, including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahilya Nagar, and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. The projected ridership for the entire Line 2 is expected to rise from 96,000 daily passengers in 2027 to 3.49 lakhs by 2057, thus reducing road traffic and improving air quality. Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) will oversee the project, handling all civil, electro-mechanical, and related works. UNI AJ RN

Orthodox Tea markets rebound as India-Iran trade recovers post ceasefire

Guwahati, June 25 (UNI) The return of calm in the Middle East following the 12-day war between Iran and Israel has brought a wave of relief for Indian orthodox tea exporters. With Iran being one of the largest buyers of premium Indian tea, the ceasefire has helped stabilise auction markets across the country after two weeks of uncertainty and losses. During the conflict, tea exports to Iran came to a virtual halt, triggering panic in major auction centres such as Kolkata and Guwahati. Traders reported a 10% dip in sales of orthodox tea, a premium variety especially popular in Iran. The escalation had also disrupted logistics, with consignments getting held up at ports like Nhava Sheva and insurance concerns compounding the problem. Now, with the ceasefire in place, normalcy is returning to the Indian tea trade. Exporters are resuming shipments and auction prices are beginning to rebound. 'Exporters were deeply concerned about the situation in Iran. A majority of our orthodox tea exports—especially from Assam—are destined for Iranian markets,' said Anshuman Kanoria, Chairman of the Indian Tea Exporters Association. 'But with the ceasefire, tea traders have returned to the auction centres and are shifting their focus back to orthodox tea from CTC.' According to Kanoria, Iran imported over 35 million kilograms of orthodox tea from India last year, primarily from Assam, with average prices ranging between Rs 300 to Rs 325 per kilogram. Despite the recent disruption, exporters now expect prices to improve to around Rs 350 per kilogram, thanks to renewed demand from Iranian buyers. India's overall tea exports touched 254.7 million kilograms in 2024, an increase of nearly 10% over the previous year. Of this, orthodox tea accounted for around 120–130 million kilograms, with Iran alone consuming more than a quarter of it. The value of Indian tea exports to Iran stood at approximately USD 40 million in 2024, according to UN trade data. Kanoria attributed Iran's strong preference for Indian tea to deep-rooted cultural ties and a long-standing appreciation for the flavour profile of Indian orthodox varieties. 'This is a people-to-people business. The love Iranians have for our tea goes beyond politics,' he said. Industry insiders believe that while geopolitical tensions in West Asia are likely to remain a concern, the resilience of this trade relationship gives Indian exporters confidence of moving forward. 'Tea is not just a commodity—it's a cultural bridge. And Iran continues to be one of our most valued partners in that regard,' Kanoria added. With shipments resuming and confidence returning among traders, India's tea sector is once again steeped in optimism. UNI XC RN
