Delhi Daredevils had poisonous characters in team: AB de Villiers's shocking claim
The squad, which featured cricketing heavyweights like Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan, Glenn McGrath, and Daniel Vettori, failed to meet expectations. Despite making the playoffs in the first two seasons, the team never quite clicked."There were lots of legends, which makes it a bittersweet memory for me. I still remember those times fondly. Some of the highlights of my life and career came during that stint-especially spending time with guys like Glenn McGrath and Daniel Vettori. These were my heroes growing up, and I was honestly a bit scared of them," De Villiers added. While his 2009 season in South Africa saw consistent performances, the following year brought frustration. A lack of playing time and clarity over his role led to disillusionment, ultimately prompting his departure from the franchise.advertisement"2009 was nice. I played almost the entire season in South Africa, came back, and I thought I was going to be the man. Then, all of a sudden, I wasn't playing again," he recalled."It was mixed feelings. I was told I would be retained, and then the next minute, I saw myself in the auction. I didn't even know what had happened. So many weird things went on."De Villiers eventually moved to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2011-a turning point in his IPL career. He immediately felt at home with his new team, which gave him the backing he had been missing."The day I walked into RCB, I felt like they wanted me to play every game. I was so surprised. They just went, 'You're the man. You're going to grow here. You're going to become a great player with us-you're part of the family.' Done and dusted."Though he retired from the IPL without winning the title as a player, De Villiers was in the stands when RCB finally clinched the trophy. He also celebrated a greater national triumph around the same time, watching South Africa defeat Australia to win the World Test Championship.Trending Reel

Meet Shah Rukh Khan's doppelganger with matching style, six-pack abs, lakhs in earnings
Bollywood is filled with celebrities, and so are their lookalikes. The latest to grab everyone's attention is Shah Rukh Khan's doppelgänger, who not only shares strikingly similar abs and physique but also mirrors his style and even mannerisms. What changed his life was an IPL match in Rajkot when fans surrounded him, mistaking him for Shah Rukh. Since then, the actor's doppelgänger has been attending parties, shows and other events, earning in lakhs reportedly. Shah Rukh Khan's popular doppelgänger is Ibrahim Qadri, who recently featured in Vogue India. Hailing from Junagadh, Gujarat, Ibrahim reportedly used to paint shop signs and walls. 'I must have been 14 or 15 when they first started saying it. His film Deewaana (1992) had just come out,' Ibrahim told the magazine. 'But I never took it seriously because family members always say things like that, don't they? It was only in 2017 when I went to watch an IPL match and the crowds went wild thinking I was Shah Rukh that I felt I could do something with it," he shared. Ibrahim reportedly charges up to Rs. 2.5 lakh for an event, such as Bollywood nights in bars and clubs or private Eid parties in Dubai. However, he sees his career as a craft that he needs to work on every day. 'I'd watched his films for years as a viewer, but in 2017, I began watching them to learn his gestures, expressions and dances. It took me a year to prepare myself," he shared. Not just his looks and mannerisms, Ibrahim also styles himself like King Khan. He revealed he hand-makes outfits and works out every day to maintain his look. 'I have no special diet,' he added, asserting his love for home-cooked food. Ibrahim is quite popular on social media as well. He has over 2 million followers on Instagram. His videos and photos often go viral from time to time, confusing fans. Despite his love for Shah Rukh, Ibrahim hopes to never run into the superstar. Reportedly, it would take away the excitement of his journey. Meanwhile, Shah Rukh was last seen in Dunki. His next release will be King, alongside Suhana Khan and Deepika Padukone.

'My Life, My Career': IPL's Rs 23.75 Crore Star Snubs Critics Not On His 'Contact List'
Last Updated: After an underwhelming IPL season, Venkatesh Iyer critics will continue to have their say and he has learned to focus only on those who have a direct impact on his life. For Kolkata Knight Riders, IPL 2025 was a forgettable affair. They started the season as the defending champions and finished eighth in the standings – failing to even qualify for the playoffs. KKR's critics had already sharpening their knives well ahead of the start of the campaign given the franchise had released their title-winning skipper Shreyas Iyer ahead of the mega auction who was then signed by their rivals for a jawdropping amount and he led them to a runners-up finish. Additionally, KKR splurged a whopping Rs 23.75 crore to re-sign Venkatesh Iyer – an allrounder who was part of their roster in IPL 2024. Iyer's amount was the third-highest of the two-day IPL mega auction after Rishabh Pant and Shreys Iyer. Naturally, he was the center of attention during the season as the astronomical sum that KKR shelled out to ensure he remained within their fold had to be justified. Like KKR, Iyer too had an underwhelming season. He mustered 142 runs from seven innings and didn't bowl in any of the 11 games he was part of. Every time, he failed with the bat, the price-tag became a talking point. However, the 30-year-old has no time for the critics of his hefty price-tag and choses to pay attention to only those who have a direct impact on his life. 'People who had these questions are not even on my contact list," Iyer told Sportskeeda. 'So why do I have to even think about what they are thinking? It's my life, my game, my career. And it's my team that has chosen to spend so much on me. So these things don't phase me. See, for a boy who wanted to just play IPL cricket, even ₹20 lakh would sometimes feel like a significant amount. And over the years, this is what I've learnt. Not just me, but all the cricketers have learnt this: there are a lot of eyes on you, but it's important to know what to pay heed to." 'People who have had a direct impact on my life, I am answerable to only them," he adds. Iyer though doesn't feel that one should just simply ignore the criticism coming there way. 'A lot of people have opinions – good and bad. But I only take opinions from people who directly impact me. And of course, legends were talking in analysis. And not paying heed to them is not correct, but you should understand where they are coming from. It is important to understand the fact that it's me who's battling in that situation. So it is tough to deal with those opinions when things don't go your way," he said. Iyer, who has 1468 runs from 62 IPL matches including a century and 12 fifties, says the legends of the game who have been criticial of his performances have been nothing but helpful. 'I am sure all these legends must have gone through a similar phase. And they understand as well. When I met these people, they were extremely kind enough to tell me what was going wrong and how to kind of negate all those things. I do take the learnings and not the critics part of it," he said.
