SJTA, ASI draw Rath Yatra plan for Srimandir repairs
BHUBANESWAR: Along with Ratna Bhandar, the Garbha Gruha or sanctum sanctorum of the Shree Jagannath temple in Puri will be taken up for repair and renovation during the Rath Yatra, when the Trinity will be away at Gundicha temple.
The pending repair works for the Ratna Bhandar, which are currently suspended due to Chandan Yatra and other rituals, will resume from June 28 and continue till July 6. This decision was taken during a review meeting of the technical advisory committee of Srimandir and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on conservation works of Ratna Bhandar and Garbha Gruha. This year, Rath Yatra will be celebrated on June 27 and Niladri Bije on July 8.
Chief administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Arabinda Padhee said, 'The ASI has been asked to complete the chemical washing and scientific conservation of outer parts of Ratna Bhandar in seven to 10 days. While five damaged beams in the Bhitara Bhandar have been replaced with stainless steel beams, four to five beams in the Bahara Ratna Bhandar will also be replaced with stainless steel box beams.'

Electric cart service at Big Temple lying idle, awaits ASI nod
Thanjavur: The electric cart service at the Brihadeeswara Temple, or Big Temple, in Thanjavur, which was inaugurated last month, is yet to begin operations, as the Rotary Club, which dedicated the service, has said that it is waiting for permission from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The cart, which was dedicated for the benefit of senior citizens, pregnant women, and people with disabilities visiting the temple, has been lying idle at the office of Thanjavur Municipal Corporation for the past three weeks. On May 18, the Rotary Club's Thanjavur Kings dedicated the electric cart. However, the temple's administration, ASI, halted the service that same day due to a lack of permission. G Sridhar, president of Rotary Club's Thanjavur Kings, said, "We have submitted a request letter at the ASI office in Trichy and are waiting for permission to operate the cart." The electric cart initiative was supported by a private bank's corporate social responsibility (CSR) at around 6 lakh. K Varthaman, 59, from Dindigul, who visited the temple with his family on Friday, said, "The electric cart service would have been useful for the needy visitors if it had been available. Due to the unavailability, accessibility remains a challenge for the needy." ASI sources in the central zone said the permission needs to be granted by the higher officials, as the administered temple is a UNESCO world heritage site. ISKCON Nagpur to host Jagannath Rath Yatra on June 28
1 2 Nagpur: The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Nagpur to host Jagannath Rath Yatra on June 28 starting at 12 noon from Poddareshwar Ram Mandir (Mayo Hospital Square). The procession will pass through key locations, concluding at the ISKCON Temple. A preparatory meeting for the yatra was held at ISKCON Nagpur. The meeting discussed event layout, service distribution, city route planning, promotion, and security arrangements. Gundicha Temple gets a facelift ahead of Rath Yatra
Bhubaneswar: Gundicha Temple, where the deities of Jagannath temple were born, is being prepared for a visual transformation through enhancement work before Rath Yatra on June 27. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "The beautification work includes stone-cladding of the outer boundary wall, landscaping and illumination arrangements to welcome the deities at their place of birth during Rath Yatra. The aesthetic transformation will give a visual delight to the deities and devotees," chief administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), Arabinda Kumar Padhee told TOI. The temple's exterior boundary wall, previously constructed of bricks, has received fresh plastering and Khondalite stone cladding, showcasing Odisha's architectural heritage. A protective fence is being installed around the wall to maintain its sanctity and restrict public access. Ornamental trees are being planted near the shrine as part of landscaping effort. "The initial phase involves stone cladding of the shrine's front wall, with plans to extend the treatment to the side and rear walls in subsequent phases after Rath Yatra," Padhee said. A new room has been built near the temple entrance for administrative purposes, complementing the existing information centre. An LED display will be installed outside to provide devotees with information about rituals at the Jagannath temple, located about 3 km away on the Grand Road. "Post-Rath Yatra, the Odisha Bridge & Construction Corporation Limited will undertake comprehensive renovation inside Gundicha Temple, including improvements of the kitchen and Nata Mandap. Murals highlighting Jagannath culture will be crafted on walls inside the shrine," Padhee said. Gundicha Temple, recognised as the deities' garden home due to its abundant trees, remains vacant except during Rath Yatra when the deities stay in it.
