Course changes can rattle even the steadiest of pros. Just ask the field at Oakmont, where the removal of more than 15,000 trees over three decades sparked fierce debate.
Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, took no chances ahead of the Masters. He flew to Augusta National weeks in advance to inspect 4 newly rebuilt greens after Hurricane Helene.
Now, Detroit Golf Club is next in line for a facelift. After this week's Rocket Classic, the North Course will undergo a $16.1 million renovation, including all-new greens and drainage upgrades.
And amid the looming overhaul, defending champion Cam Davis is hoping a little marital "magic" can help him go back-to-back.

Davis won here in both 2021 and 2024, and has brought his wife along for the ride this week. "Defending a tournament is a very cool experience," he said during the pre-tournament press conference. "She wanted to be a part of that. She knows this place has become quite special to me."
While Jonika Zapiorkowska occasionally travels, Davis noted: "It's not a regular occurrence... to have her out and see this place, especially before the course gets renovated, to be able to see it as it has been for the first two wins of my career is very special. Should be a very fun week."
But sentiment won't be enough! The 2-time PGA Tour winner enters the week ranked 54th in the FedExCup standings and has struggled since a hot start to 2025.
"Season got off to I think the best start I've ever had on the PGA TOUR," he said. "Then... it's been pretty rough going. I haven't really seen myself play much good golf as of late."
He continued, "The PGA Championship was a nice little change, I had a couple of solid rounds there, but for the most part it's been a little bit of searching, trying to get some magic back."
Davis did notch a T19 at the PGA Championship, but has missed multiple cuts and finished T57 at the Travelers just last week.
His last win came in 2024 after Akshay Bhatia's three-putt on the 72nd hole handed him a one-shot victory at 18-under in the same course.

"A place like this brings back good memories and good vibes," he said. "If there's any way I'm going to draw some confidence just by being in a physical location, it's this place".
This time, big names like Collin Morikawa, Hideki Matsuyama, Patrick Cantlay, Keegan Bradley, and Rickie Fowler are all teeing it up. Davis, meanwhile, has finished T54 or worse in six of his last seven starts.
On top of that, the course itself, 7,370 yards, par 72, won't be forgiving. With all 18 greens set to be rebuilt after Sunday, the agronomy team is expected to push conditions to the edge.

Former Red Bull Racing CEO and team principal Christian Horner and his wife Geri Halliwell-Horner are under fire after recent planning permission issues at their Oxford mansion. The couple live in a grade II listed property, a former vicarage in Marston St Lawrence, in Oxfordshire. With plans now going ahead for the construction oak-framed pergola and gazebo in April of this year, it's been reported that the couple didn't receive planning consent, not only due to the listed nature of the property, but also the fact it's in a designated conservation area. Christian Horner, Team Principal of Oracle Red Bull Racing in the Team Principals Press Conference during practice ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Great Britain at Silverstone Circuit on July 04, 2025 in Northampton, England. MoreAccording to a report from the Daily Mail, the local council can order the family to demolish any work that has been done to the property without permission. The Horners are applying for retrospective planning permission, but it can still be rejected despite the work already being started. The family applied for this retrospective planning permission the day before he was dropped from Red Bull after a string of disappointing results. "Red Bull has released Christian Horner from his operational duties with effect from today," Red Bull GmBH said in a statement. Horner followed this up with a heartfelt post to the team's many fans and followers: "After an incredible journey of twenty years together, it is with a heavy heart that today I say goodbye to the Team I have absolutely loved. Every one of you, the amazing people at the factory, have been the heart and soul of everything that we have achieved. Win and lose, every step of the way, we have stood by each other as one and I will never forget that. It's been a privilege being part of and leading this epic Team and I am so proud of our collective accomplishments and you all. "Thanks to the amazing partners and fans who enabled us to go racing. Your support has helped grow the team from its humble beginnings to an F1 powerhouse that laid claim to 6 Constructors Championships and 8 Drivers Championships. "Equally, thank you to our rivals, with whom there would be no racing at all. You've pushed us, challenged us, and enabled us to achieve accolades we never dreamed possible. The competition has made every victory sweeter and every setback an opportunity to develop and grow. "Formula 1 is a sport built on relentless ambition, passion, and respect. The rivalries have been fierce, but the mutual drive to innovate and raise the bar is what has made this journey so special. "It's been an honour to be part of this incredible era of motorsport. I leave with immense pride in what we've achieved and also with what's in the pipeline for 2026 — and huge respect for everyone who's made F1 the pinnacle it is today. Thank You"

It was a double fault off the court by Holger Rune. The Danish tennis star was allegedly shut down by Russia's Veronika Kudermetova, who recently revealed on compatriot Elena Vesnina's podcast that she rebuffed a message from Rune, 22, by making it clear she's married. 'Rune recently texted me,' the 28-year-old Kudermetova said, as covered by U.K. outlet Express. Advertisement 6 Holger Rune allegedly shot his shot at Veronika Kudermetova. Since then, he doesn't even say hello to me anymore.' Advertisement Kudermetova has been married to her coach, Sergey Demekhine, since 2017. Demekhine, 41, who also hails from Russia and played tennis professionally, has made various appearances on Kudermetova's Instagram feed, including in July when they attended the Champions' Dinner at Wimbledon. 6 Elise Mertens of and Veronika Kudermetova won the women's doubles at Wimbledon in July 2025. Kudermetova and Mertens will face Russian Alexandra Panova and China's Guo Hanyu in the Round of 16 doubles Friday in Montreal, where the women's tournament is taking place, while Rune squares off against Australia's Alexei Popyrin Saturday in the Round of 16 singles in Toronto.
