N. Ramchander Rao To Be New Telangana BJP Chief

Senior leader N. Ramchander Rao is likely to be appointed as the new President of Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Telangana unit, party sources said on Monday.
The party's central leadership is understood to have finalised Mr Rao as the State BJP President.
A High Court advocate and former Member of Legislative Council (MLC), Rao will file the nomination for the post on Monday afternoon.
With the Central leadership conveying its choice, no other leader is likely to enter the fray.
Mr Rao is likely to be elected unanimously on Tuesday.
Though Union Minister of State Bandi Sanjay and BJP MPs Eatala Rajender and Arvind Dharmapuri were seen as strong contenders for the post, the BJP's central leadership is believed to have preferred Ramchander Rao, a party loyalist and non-controversial figure.
A Brahmin, Mr Rao had been active in Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and the legal cell of the BJP.
He earlier headed the BJP's Hyderabad unit.
A section of senior leaders of BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are understood to have backed the choice of Ramchander Rao.
Meanwhile, reacting to reports of Ramchander Rao being picked as the next State BJP President, controversial leader and MLA T. Raja Singh said the state party President should be elected by party cadres.
He added that his personal view is that from booth-level workers to senior leaders, the active members of the party should elect the President.
The MLA from Goshamahal constituency in Hyderabad said that the party suffered damage in the past due to appointment of Presidents recommended by some people.
He said that the party workers are the real strength of the BJP and because of their efforts the party won eight Lok Sabha seats last year.
The BJP on Sunday issued notification for election of new state unit chief.
Nominations can be filed on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. while nominations can be withdrawn from 4 to 5 p.m. the same day.
Union Minister of State for Ministry of Labour and Employment, Shobha Karandlaje, will serve as the Returning Officer.
Several top BJP leaders were seen as front-runners to succeed current state party President and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy.
They included Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay, who was removed as the state BJP President before 2023 Assembly elections, MPs Arvind Dharmapuri, Eatala Rajender, K. Laxman and D.K. Aruna.
Union Minister Kishan Reddy was appointed State BJP President ahead of 2023 Assembly elections, replacing Bandi Sanjay.
He led the party in Assembly elections and in 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
While the BJP could win just eight seats in 119-member Assembly, it improved its performance in Lok Sabha polls to double the tally of seats to eight.
After BJP retained power at the Centre, Union Minister Kishan Reddy was re-inducted into the Cabinet.
A change in the state leadership has been on cards for several months.

'I came to the party office, choosing an auspicious time to submit my nomination, but the state council members—supporting my candidature—were threatened with suspensions and forced to back out. 'Since 2014, I have been facing many troubles and challenges in the party. My family and I have become the target of terrorists, but still function in the party's interests. But it is the leaders who are against BJP coming to power in Telangana that have become influential,' said Singh. Singh has been in a feud with the party leadership, especially with Kishan Reddy, for some time now. 'At a time when the BJP stands at the threshold of forming its first government in Telangana, such a choice raises serious doubts about the direction we are heading,' the letter said. Noting that there are 'many capable, credible senior leaders, MLAs, and MPs, who tirelessly worked for BJP's growth and can lead the party forward,' Singh added, 'Unfortunately, it appears that some individuals, driven by personal interests, have misled the central leadership and taken decisions by running the show from behind the curtain.' 'This not only undermines the sacrifices of grassroots workers but risks pushing the party into avoidable setbacks. I find it difficult to stay silent or pretend that all is well. After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, Raja Singh joined the BJP and became MLA of Goshamahal in 2014—the only among five sitting BJP MLAs to retain his seat in 2018. Known as a rabble-rouser, the leader has frequently hit national headlines for his caustic speeches targeting Muslims. Hyderabad police describe Singh Lodh as a 'habitual offender' who delivered 'provocative and inflammatory speeches'. The same, they say, has driven a 'wedge between communities, leading to public disorder'. Of the over 100 criminal cases registered against Raja Singh since 2004, 18 are communal offences. BJP gets new state presidents; ideological association with RSS & caste factor at play

The BJP elected K Beichhua and VP Ramalingam as the party presidents for Mizoram and Puducherry. Barring these two candidates, all the rest of the shortlisted state presidents are ideologically associated with RSS and BJP right from the Jan Sangh days. In the next two-three days, BJP will elect its state unit chiefs for Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal and other state/UT units. In this hilly state where the politics is dominated by Thakurs and Brahmin and with a Thakur, Pushkar Singh Dhami as state chief minister, the party has opted for Brahmin as state in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh, the incumbent Rajiv Bandal may continue as BJP state unit president. Here also, the politics is dominated by Thakurs and Brahmins. With Jairam Thakur as leader of opposition in the state assembly and JP Nadda, a Brahmin as Union Minister, the party has opted for a Baniya who has strong associations with the the organisationally crucial state of Madhya Pradesh, Hemant Khandelwal is seen as a frontrunner for the state unit president post.

‘Unable' to attend court, complainant withdraws defamation cases against Nawab Malik
Proceedings against Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik were closed after BJP's Mohit Bharatiya withdrew the two defamation cases filed against him. The withdrawal follows a plea filed by Malik before the magistrate court seeking to dispose of the case as Bharatiya had not appeared in court during the last 15 hearings to record his statement. Bharatiya filed an affidavit before the court stating that he was voluntarily withdrawing the plea. 'That since this Hon'ble Court is desirous of keeping the said case on day-to-day basis, I am desirous to withdraw the case filed against the accused in the above-referenced matter as, I will be unable to attend this Hon'ble Court on daily basis,' the affidavit said. The cases pertained to remarks allegedly made by Malik during an investigation by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) into the 2021 raid on a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast. Bharatiya had alleged that Malik had 'purposefully and intentionally defamed' him and his brother-in-law, following which he filed two defamation complaints under Section 500 of the Indian Penal Code. The court summoned Malik after one of the complaints, filed on October 26, 2021. The matter was listed for recording of evidence, where Bharatiya was expected to depose as the complainant. However, according to a plea filed by Malik's lawyer Gaurav Bhawnani, Bharatiya failed to appear for as many as 15 consecutive hearings. On each of the hearings, an adjournment was sought due to non-availability of the complainant, the plea said. Under section 256(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code, in case of non-appearance of the complainant, the court can acquit the accused. Malik's plea pointed out that while an advocate can appear on a complainant's behalf, personal presence becomes mandatory at the stage of recording evidence. 'The present proceedings have completely stalled due to the repeated absence of the complainant,' the plea stated, adding that Bharatiya's continued absence demonstrated 'no respect' for the valuable time of the court, the accused, or the advocates involved. Another case filed by Bharatiya against Malik, who was then a minister in the Maha Vikas Agadhi (MVA) government, was also withdrawn in 2022.
