
Allahabad University's PG admission entrance exam starts on June 10
Prayagraj: The PG entrance examination (PGAT) for admission to various postgraduate courses at Allahabad University is proposed to start on June 10.
This decision was taken during a meeting held on Friday under the chairmanship of the director of the admission cell of AU.

Further, the last date for application has been extended. Candidates will now be able to apply online until May 20. By Saturday, 55835 registrations were completed for admission to various PG (MA, MSc, MCom, BEd, MEd, MBA) and professional courses (LLB, LLM, and IPS). Meanwhile, 29119 candidates submitted their forms.
Director of the admission cell Prof JK Pati said candidates will be able to correct mistakes in their applications on May 22 and 23.
"PGAT will be held on June 10, 11, 12 and 13. The exam will be conducted both online and offline in Prayagraj, Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Bareilly, and New Delhi. Whereas, in Bhopal, Kolkata, Patna, and Thiruvananthapuram, the examination will be held only online. The admit card will be uploaded on the university website a week before the entrance examination," he said.
There will be admission to approximately 8,000 seats in 61 postgraduate courses in AU and affiliated colleges.
This time, AU has decided not to give any weightage to NCC and sports quota in BEd, MEd, MBA, and MBA (rural development) courses.
Additionally, the rules for the sports quota have been changed, and a physical strength test has been included. Admission will be conducted in traditional courses under PGAT-1, with examinations in both modes. In contrast, admission to professional and Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) courses will be under PGAT-2, with the entrance examination conducted only online.

SSLC-1 exam: Top ranked DK district's pass percentage further improves with re-evaluation
The overall pass percentage of class 10 students in SSLC-1 examination in Dakshina Kannada district, which was ranked first, further improved to 91.64 with 144 more students passing in the examination following re-totalling and re-evaluation. Dakshina Kannada district reached the top slot with 25,326 (91.12%) of the 27,795 students passing in the SSLC-1 examination. Following re-totalling and re-evaluation, a total of 25,470 (91.64) students passed the examination. The Puttur education block, which recorded the maximum pass percentage of 94.09 (4311 of 4582 passed), saw further improvement with 20 more students clearing the examination. This took the overall pass percentage of Puttur block to 94.52 (4331 passed). Similarly, 14 more students passed in the Moodbidri block, which improved the overall pass percentage from 93.44 to 94.17 (1794 passed of 1905 students). As many as 26 students from Belthangady block passed and this took the overall pass percentage from 92.82 to 93.47 (3709 of 3968 students). Of the two Mangaluru city blocks, the pass percentage of Mangaluru north block improved from 91.76 to 92.55 (4609 of 5011 students) with 11 more students passing the examination. In the Mangaluru south block highest of 39 students passed and this took the overall pass percentage from 89.43 to 89.66 (4346 of 4816). In Sullia block, seven more students passed and this improved the pass percentage from 91.77 to 92.15 (1691 of 1835 students). As many as 27 students passed from Bantwal block and this took its pass percentage from 87.41 to 87.88 (4990 of 5678). The re-totalling and re-evaluation results also saw 23 more schools recording 100% students passing the exams. With this, a total of 172 schools recorded 100% result of which 97 were unaided, 62 government and 13 were aided schools. Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Director of Public Instruction Govind Maidwala said re-totalling and re-evaluation results have further enhanced the position of the district, which continues to make a mark in the SSLC and 2nd year PU examinations in the State. The valuation of answer sheets of SSLC-2 examination is yet to be completed, he said.

Importance of volunteer service emphasised to keep Vizag clean and beautiful

The American Corner at Andhra University organised the event. As part of the event, the Consul General participated in a beach clean-up drive along with students and volunteers. She appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the volunteers, students, and local citizens, expressing happiness over the collaborative efforts for such environmental initiatives. Speaking at the event, Andhra University (AU) Vice-Chancellor G.P. Rajasekhar noted that programmes like these contribute significantly to maintaining cleanliness at beaches. He praised the volunteers for their energetic and dedicated participation. Registrar E.N. Dhanumjaya Rao called for making the beach plastic-free. He urged the implementation of special measures to reduce plastic usage and commended the volunteers for their efforts to maintain the beach in an eco-friendly manner. Plantation drive, awareness rallies mark World Environment Day in Visakhapatnam
Planting of saplings, rallies, awareness meetings and calls to shun the use of plastic marked the World Environment Day in the city on Thursday. District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad flagged off a 'green rally', taken out from the Kali Matha temple to the AU Convention Centre on Beach Road. The programme was organised under the aegis of the Forest Department, Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board, GVMC and other departments. The Collector said that a campaign was launched to plant 5 lakh saplings across the district. The target was to plant over a million saplings in the district. He called upon the organisers to ensure protection and growth of the plants. The Collector called upon the public to shun the use of plastic. He reminded that 'single-use plastic' has already been banned. Plastic is causing untold harm to public health, including cancer. It is also harming marine life, he said and commended Divis Labs, Coromandel and other industries and NGOs for becoming a part of the sapling promotion. Waltair Railway Division celebrated the day with enthusiasm and commitment, emphasising its dedication to environmental protection and sustainability. This year's theme, 'Beat Plastic Pollution,' highlights the need to end plastic pollution, and the division has actively focused on raising public awareness on plastic ban and promoting large-scale plantation drives. It organised a series of activities from May 22 to June 5. These initiatives were aimed at reducing plastic pollution and enhancing green cover across the division. Railway employees across the division pledged to adopt eco-friendly habits in their daily lives. Thousands of saplings of various species were planted at multiple locations, including railway colonies and community spaces. The Dolphin Nose Railway Colony witnessed active participation of ADRM (Operations) Manoj Kumar Sahoo, ADRM (Infra) E. Santharam, and other branch officers. Further, ECoRWWO organised community plantation programmes to preserve biodiversity and enhance green cover. A total of 28 persons, representing various associations, participated in the clean and green initiative, organised by K. Eswar, Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) Member and MSN Murthy, secretary, Manavavikas Vedika. The announcements on eco-awareness, made on the public address system by Durga Laxmi, MS Rao Duvvada Railway staff, drew the attention of passengers boarding and alighting trains at the station. The clean and green programme was followed by free distribution of RO water bottles to around 450 passengers travelling in general compartments of Shirdi Express and Prasanthi Express by Kameswara Rao and Bhaskar.
