2025 Heisman Trophy Odds: Is 'Summer Favorite' Arch Manning a Good Bet?
Not a single "summer favorite" has won since 2015, and we've seen doozies like Sam Darnold, Leonard Fournette, Spencer Rattler and DJ Uiagalelei sit atop the betting boards as the calendar flipped to August.
Conversely, we've seen players like Travis Hunter (50/1), Lamar Jackson (100/1) and Joe Burrow (200/1) defy betting odds to hoist the Heisman, while DeVonta Smith wasn't even listed before the 2020 campaign.
Enter Arch Manning.
The Texas quarterback with the million-dollar name is this year's favorite with a consensus price of around +600 in the market. Manning possesses insane upside on a team co-favored to win the national championship. That said, he threw for 939 yards last season with 13 total touchdowns.
If Arch's last name was "Martin," the price might be double.

"I would throw anybody out at 5 or 6/1," Heisman voter and Pick Six Previews pundit Brett Ciancia told FOX Sports. "I wouldn't touch anything like that. It's such a crap shoot in August every year.
"That's the beauty of college football. It's such a mystery how these Heisman races and All-American candidates will play out. Remember, Carson Beck was the favorite last year to win the Heisman and he ended up nowhere close.
"I wouldn't touch any Heisman favorite."
Ciancia's early darling is Clemson QB Cade Klubnik.
"Even that's a little bit chalky at 9/1," he admitted. "He's a pretty safe bet coming in as a playoff contender. [Clemson] is going to be in the playoff mix, given how weak the ACC is. A very veteran roster around him, and they're building off a conference championship. That's my chalk pick.
"If you want a lottery bet, I would go with Oklahoma's John Mateer at 30/1. It's going to be a high-powered, new-look offense there. He tore it up at Washington State with this same coordinator. I don't know if it's just the towel or the headband, but he looks like Baker Mayfield out there.
"Similar playing style, he's going to get a ton of stats and if the Sooners make a run in the SEC, he'll be looked at as a Heisman candidate."
I've buttered my bread with the aforementioned Beck, who transferred from Georgia to Miami to replace Heisman finalist and No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward. There's something to be said about a quarterback changing scenery to play in a system that's more conducive to putting up big numbers.
FanDuel was dealing Beck at 37-1 a couple of weeks ago and yes, I would still bet him at 25-1 or higher if you're a little late to the party.
Please don't bet FanDuel's current price at 18-1.
Truth be told, Manning has the ability, name and surrounding talent to take this Heisman race and run with it. And I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about him throwing three touchdowns against Ohio State in Columbus on Aug. 30 and never looking back.
As we've learned, though, it's usually not that simple.
Just ask Uncle Eli or Uncle Peyton.

49ers starting offensive lineman predicts that he'll make the Pro Bowl in 2025
While the San Francisco 49ers have a few jobs up for grabs in training camp ahead of their 2025 campaign, one player who's set in his spot is right tackle Colton McKivitz. McKivitz, 28, was San Francisco's fifth-round pick (No. 153 overall) in the 2020 NFL draft after a five-year collegiate career at West Virginia, where he earned All-Big 12 and All-American honors as a senior. After he spent most of his rookie season as a backup and most of the following year on the practice squad, McKivitz eventually took over as the team's starting right tackle in 2023 and has started all 34 games over the last two seasons. As he prepares to enter his third season in the role, McKivitz believes he'll be recognized as one of the top players at his position in the NFL in 2025. 'I'm going to be a Pro Bowler this year, I've told countless people," McKivitz shared with NBC Sports' Matt Maiocco earlier this week. "I'm just putting it out there just because that's going to hold me accountable and get me to where I want to go. If you don't fight for it, you won't get it.' The 49ers are no strangers to having one of their starting tackles make the Pro Bowl, as left tackle Trent Williams made it four straight seasons from 2020-23. However, McKivitz will really have to play great in 2025 to unseat Philadelphia's Lane Johnson, who's made the Pro Bowl each of the last three seasons and has made six in his career. Interestingly, the San Francisco Chronicle's Noah Furtado reported that McKivitiz had the "most impressive offensive/defensive lineman one-on-one rep of the day" on Friday, as he completely shut down a pass rush from Nick Bosa. From draft day doubts to Phillies' Wall of Fame: Jimmy Rollins' journey puts him with team greats
Associated Press PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jimmy Rollins was a Bay Area kid who grew up rooting for Rickey Henderson and admiring Jackie Robinson as he blossomed into one of the top high school prospects in baseball. So when the Philadelphia Phillies called in 1996 to tell the slick-fielding shortstop they had picked him in the second round of the draft, Rollins had one major question. 'I'm like, 'Who?' ' Rollins said with a laugh. Yes, the Phillies, one of the worst organizations in baseball throughout the late 1990s — and one Rollins turned into a perennial winner. Rollins led the Phillies to five straight NL East titles, the 2008 World Series championship, and another NL pennant the next year. He was the 2007 NL MVP, a three-time All-Star, had a 38-game hitting streak and set the franchise record for hits with 2,306. He had one more major franchise accolade to accomplish. Rollins at last took his place with Hall of Famers Mike Schmidt and Steve Carlton and was inducted Friday night into the Phillies' Wall of Fame. 'I was meant to be here,' Rollins said. 'I got drafted here. I told my mom when we got drafted, I'm going to win a championship in this city. That's what it became about for me, was chasing that championship.' The core of that Phillies' run — five division titles from 2007-2011 on the strength of homegrown talent such as Rollins, Ryan Howard, Cole Hamels and Chase Utley — was built by former general manager Ed Wade. Wade, who helped move the organization into Citizens Bank Park in 2004, received his spot on the Wall with Rollins on Friday night. Howard inducted Rollins into the team's version of the Hall of Fame, saying the team leaned on him for the contagious confidence that made the Phillies the team to beat in the NL for so many years. 'You go, we go,' Howard told the crowd. 'Jimmy always went.' Utley pulled down the coverings that unveiled the Rollins and Wade plaques on the wall that greets fans in the left field concourse behind the scoreboard building. Rollins, who finished his career with stints with the Dodgers and the White Sox, earned just 18% of the Hall of Fame vote in last year's ballot, falling short of the 75% needed for election. Wade said Rollins' numbers compared to some of the great shortstops already in Cooperstown. 'This guy, from the standpoint of character, makeup and talent, he's a Hall of Famer in all three of those things,' Wade said. 'There are some guys in Cooperstown that may check one or two of those boxes. This guy checks all three of those boxes. I understand the statistical aspect of it. Defense, check his box. Newcomers Helsley, Rogers and Mullins join Mets in the thick of a pennant race
NEW YORK (AP) — Pitchers Ryan Helsley and Tyler Rogers and outfielder Cedric Mullins jumped into a pennant race Friday when they joined the National League-East leading New York Mets in search of the franchise's first championship since 1986. 'Everybody's very excited — they're matching my excitement to be here,' Rogers said before the Mets opened a three-game series against San Francisco. The Giants traded Rogers to New York for José Buttó and a pair of prospects Wednesday. The Mets, who fell to the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers in last year's NLCS, entered Friday with a half-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies. 'From looking across the dugout a week ago, this is a team where you're like, man, this team is the complete package,' Rogers said as the teams met for the second straight weekend. 'So I'm very excited to be a part of it. Whatever they need from me, hopefully I can give it to them.' Helsley, who had 21 saves for the St. Louis Cardinals before being acquired for a trio of prospects Wednesday, and Rogers, a side-armer whose 392 appearances since 2019 are tied for the fourth-most in the majors, are expected to fortify a bullpen that was beginning to show vulnerability ahead of All-Star closer Edwin Díaz. 'At first I was kind of surprised, honestly, having Díaz here,' Helsley said. 'But in the playoffs, you'll take as many good arms as you can get.' Helsley said he was looking forward to serving as a set-up man for the Mets, whose bullpen ERA of 3.80 ranks 11th in the majors. New York made 36 transactions last month involving 18 relievers, including left-hander Gregory Soto, who was acquired from the Baltimore Orioles on July 25. 'If I need to throw the sixth, seventh, eighth — whenever it's going to be, I'm glad to do so,' Helsley said. Mullins, who was acquired from the Orioles on Thursday for three pitching prospects, didn't start Friday's game after arriving at Citi Field less than three hours before first pitch. He is expected to become the starter in center field, where the slumping Tyrone Taylor and converted infielder Jeff McNeil have been splitting time while Jose Siri recovers from a broken leg. Mullins, who won the Silver Slugger with the Orioles after going 30/30 in 2021, robbed the Toronto Blue Jays of a pair of homers during his final series with Baltimore earlier this week. 'I'm just trying to be myself and bring the type of game I know I can bring,' Mullins said. 'Bunch of different stuff — using my legs, running, stealing bases, playing solid defense, showing a little bit of power here and there, bunts. Just a little bit of everything.' The trades were the first as professionals for Helsley, Rogers and Mullins. 'It's pretty crazy,' Helsley said. 'I probably equate it to like the first day of school ... where everything's so new.' Rogers and Buttó, who signed with the Mets as an international free agent in 2017, are likely to make their debuts this weekend for their new clubs against their old ones. Both players flew to New York with their former teams. 'Baseball's funny that way, isn't it?' said Rogers, who was traded the same day his twin, Taylor, was sent from the Cincinnati Reds to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Taylor Rogers was dealt to the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. 'Being traded is new and then to go out there and pitch for a new team for the first time ever is going to be weird. And then to look up and see the Giants uniform in the batter's box is going to be something.' New York aired a tribute video to Butto before the first pitch of Friday's game. 'I was talking to José today, I said the timing of this might not be the greatest thing in the world,' Giants manager Bob Melvin said.
