IndyCar star Josef Newgarden flips in terrifying crash at WWT Raceway

Fox News5 hours ago

IndyCar drivers Josef Newgarden and Louis Foster were in a dangerous crash on Sunday during the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at World Wide Technology (WTT) Raceway in Madison, Illinois, just outside of St. Louis.
The incident occurred about midway through the race when Foster lost control of his vehicle in the corner and collided with the wall. He spun around as he came down the track on the frontstretch. Newgarden had nowhere to go and could not avoid Foster.
As Newgarden drove into Foster, he got airborne and flipped over in a terrifying crash. He landed on his roof and slid down the track. IndyCar safety officials immediately jumped over the barrier that separated the track from pit road to check on him.
Foster spoke to FOX Sports about the wreck after he was released from the infield care center.
"I got a bit of a wiggle ... got a bit too high and went into the marbles," Foster said. "I just couldn't stop the car from spinning and, obviously, a pretty scary impact with myself and Josef. I'm glad he is OK."
Newgarden declined to speak after the incident.
Kyle Kirkwood won the race, picking up his second consecutive win and third of the season. Only he and Alex Palou have won races on the IndyCar circuit this season.
Palou still holds the lead in the IndyCar standings, just 73 points over Pato O'Ward and 75 points ahead of Kirkwood.
Newgarden is in 16th and Foster is in 24th.

Josef Newgarden's 'trying season' continues with crash at WWTR, leaves with 'only thing to do'

Josef Newgarden was seemingly running toward his first IndyCar win of the season as long as he could avoid an already eventful night on the short-oval track at World Wide Technology Raceway. But as a highlight of Newgarden's blue PPG Paints No. 2 was turning in front of a Midwest sunset, the Fox broadcast quickly cut back to Newgarden's car upside down. It was the result of rookie Louis Foster losing his car into the outer SAFER barrier coming out of Turn 4 and gliding to the front of the track perpendicular to oncoming traffic on Lap 131. Newgarden went inside, but contact was unavoidable. After contact, Newgarden flipped and the back of his car landed on the inside SAFER barrier as he skidded to a stop. Foster and Newgarden were seen and released from the medical center, and Newgarden was shown walking with a team member. He issued a response on social media Monday. "Not sure what to say, other than thank you to the AMR safety team and the safety of the car," he wrote with images of the crash attached to his post. "Seemed like everything was going our way last night, until it wasn't. Not much you can do in a situation like that. This season has been pretty trying for everyone on the 2 crew. Only thing to do is look forward. It will only make the successes even sweeter. "See you in Road America! America!" Insider: Kyle Kirkwood 'in the zone' and serious IndyCar contender, no longer 'street-course merchant' Newgarden placed 25th, two spots ahead of Team Penske teammate Will Power and one spot behind teammate Scott McLaughlin. Neither of the three finished the race. Kyle Kirkwood went on to win the race, his first oval win and third win of the 2025 season. Alex Palou has won the other five races. Not sure what to say, other than thank you to the AMR safety team and the safety of the like everything was going our way last night, until it wasn't. Not much you can do in a situation like that. This season has been pretty trying for everyone on the 2 crew. Only… Josef Newgarden flips at WWT Raceway.

Girls' lacrosse Top 10: Good Counsel, Stone Ridge top final rankings

The Virginia Class 5 and 6 championship games Saturday marked the end of the girls' lacrosse season in the D.C. area. There was plenty of continued dominance this spring, as four of the 10 teams in these final rankings extended a streak of consecutive state or conference titles. Just like last season, Good Counsel and Stone Ridge finish as the top two teams after each program won conference championships. Yorktown and Broadneck affirmed their public school supremacy, while Marriotts Ridge and Riverside round out the rankings after winning state titles of their own. The Falcons have lost just three games since the 2023 season. Despite graduating plenty of talent ahead of this season, the Falcons cruised through Washington Catholic Athletic Conference play and won the conference championship for a fourth straight year. Lottery.com and Sports.com Showcase Multi-Series Talent in INDYCAR and INDY NXT at Gateway

Callum Ilott Helmet Louis Foster Posed Gateway Seb Murrary Car BAckground MADISON, Ill., June 16, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- It was a weekend of high drama, fast pace, and standout performances across both the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and INDY NXT by Firestone, as and drivers Callum Ilott, Louis Foster and Sebastian Murray took to the high-speed oval at World Wide Technology Raceway under the lights. With brand presence across all three cars, the weekend marked another milestone for Inc. (Nasdaq: LTRY, LTRYW) and further reinforcing their commitment to elite and emerging talent across the motorsport ladder. Callum Ilott: Commanding Drive Ends in Fuel-HeartbreakPREMA Racing's Callum Ilott produced a sensational performance in Gateway's 260-lap race. Starting from P16, the British driver carved his way through the field and was leading the race in the closing laps. Unfortunately, a fuel strategy gamble came up short, and Ilott was forced to pit with just four laps remaining, finishing P18. 'Today's result is hard to take in, especially when we were leading with just a handful of laps to go,' . 'The car felt really good all race, our pace was strong, and we made our pit stops at the right time. We'll come back stronger at Road America.' Ilott continues to fly the flag with high-visibility helmet branding, reaffirming his status as one of the most talented and composed drivers on the INDYCAR grid. Louis Foster: Blistering Pace and Unlucky End to a Promising RunLouis Foster, racing for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, once again showed front-running speed before a late-race incident ended his charge. The 21-year-old Brit had been running competitively inside the top 10 before catching the marbles and spinning into a high-speed crash, marking his second consecutive DNF despite showing strong form. 'I had wiggles all race, and just got too high onto the dark stuff where there's less grip. At that point, I was a complete passenger,. 'We were really fast—it's frustrating to end the weekend like that, but there's a lot to take forward.' Now fully backed through the end of the season with on his helmet and on the front wing endplates, Foster remains central to both brands' INDYCAR activation strategy. 'Louis continues to flash brilliance every time he's on track,' 'We're proud to support him and are confident he'll turn the corner and deliver the results his talent deserves.' Sebastian Murray: Strong INDY NXT Oval Debut Shows PotentialIn just his first-ever oval race, INDY NXT newcomer Sebastian Murray delivered a disciplined and mature drive. Starting mid-pack, Murray kept his nose clean and ultimately finished ahead of his starting position—an encouraging result as he builds experience in one of motorsport's toughest disciplines. 'It was a really good weekend. The team did a great job and it feels good to get the first oval out of the way,' . 'We made up some positions and fought our way through. If I'd gotten past a certain car earlier, I think we could've had a very different result.' With full branding support from and across his helmet, suit, rear wing, and endplates, Murray continues to exceed expectations. 'Sebastian kept it shiny-side-up and delivered a performance well beyond his experience level,' . 'He's taken to oval racing naturally—like a duck to water—and we're excited to watch his progression.' Next Up: Road AmericaThe and drivers now head to Road America in Wisconsin. The course is a known favorite for Foster who previously won there in Indy Pro 2000 and finished second in INDY NXT. 'To have three drivers across both series carrying our brands is a special moment,' . 'This weekend showed grit, speed, and the kind of excitement that we're proud to align with. Road America is next—and we're ready.' About Inc.
