Lucknow: In a meeting with UP's delegation at the World Expo 2025, Tokyo Electron Limited, a leading manufacturer of semiconductor production equipment, explored the opportunity to invest in the state.
The team looked at business potential in the area of Global Capability Centre setup. TEL was represented by Takeshi Okubo, corporate officer and executive vice president (global sales division and India business), among others.
"Discussions centred around the fast-evolving semiconductor ecosystem in the Noida region and prospects for TEL to collaborate in areas such as semiconductor manufacturing, skill development, and establishing GCC in UP," a govt spokesperson said.
He added that the TEL leadership expressed keen interest in exploring Uttar Pradesh as a base for GCCs, citing the state's skilled talent pool, robust infrastructure, and industry-friendly policies.
Also present during the meeting were Debjani Chakrabarti, minister (Economic and Commercial) at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo, Amit Singh, secretary to CM Yogi Adityanath, and Vipin Kumar Jain, special secretary to UP CM.

We are not here for appeasement — we are here to preserve our heritage,' Adityanath said at a public rally after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone of 222 development projects worth ₹659 crore in the district's Bahjoi town. Adityanath described the town as a sacred symbol of Hindu faith, deeply embedded in Sanatan Dharma and ancient scriptures, asserting that those who tried to suppress this truth for political gains would face consequences for their 'sins'. He linked Sambhal to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, saying that the Skanda Purana and Vishnu Purana refer to it as the future birthplace of Lord Kalki, the final avatar of Vishnu in kalyug. He warned those attempting to rewrite history or 'malign Sanatan Dharma,' saying that such malicious conspiracies would be 'firmly crushed.' Yogi added: 'Their own backgrounds are controversial, so they see our traditions as controversial. But our legacy is not up for debate.' Adityanath delved into the town's overlooked past, claiming that Sambhal was once home to 68 pilgrimage sites, 19 sacred wells and ancient parikrama routes that were deliberately destroyed by foreign invaders. 'They desecrated our shrines and erased the truth,' he said, pledging to restore all 68 sites and 19 wells. Drawing inspiration from Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar — known for reviving temples in Kashi and Somnath — the CM promised a cultural renaissance for Sambhal. 'True development is about preserving our roots while building the future,' he said. The chief minister cited the examples of Kashi Vishwanath Corridor and the Ram Temple in Ayodhya to emphasise that religious rejuvenation and development can go hand in hand. 'If the redevelopment of Kashi and Ayodhya is possible, why not Sambhal? Why can't we restore this holy land of Lord Kalki and Harihar? That is why the government has come to you,' Adityanath said. Taking a dig at past governments, Adityanath accused them of enabling lawlessness and mafia raj. 'Girls were unsafe, traders lived in fear. Today, the only ones insecure are rioters. Mahakal is now delivering justice,' he said. Tensions flared in Sambhal last year when a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid here was carried out following claims that a Harihar temple previously stood at the site. Days later, during a second round of the survey, protesting locals clashed with security personnel, which led to the death of four people and injuries to dozens. He emphasised that under his government, 8.5 lakh youth have received jobs in eight years, including 60,200 recent police recruits. He contrasted this with previous regimes, saying: 'They nurtured one mafia per district. We promote 'One District, One Product.' The 222 projects inaugurated/launched span sectors such as education, roads, vocational training, clean drinking water, anganwadi centres and school infrastructure. The CM also laid the foundation stone for the new district magistrate office and integrated residential complexes, participating in Vedic rituals. Highlighting the government's commitment to inclusive growth, the CM distributed cheques, house keys and certificates to beneficiaries of various welfare schemes. He also launched the 'Sambhal Samvad' mobile app for better citizen engagement. In a symbolic gesture, the chief minister performed the traditional 'Annaprashan' ceremony for infants and planted saplings to promote environmental awareness. He inspected archaeological relics unearthed in Sambhal, further underlining the region's historical importance. Wrapping up his address, Adityanath praised the courage of Sambhal's people who, he said, never bowed to rioters. He invoked upcoming national and religious events — Raksha Bandhan, Kakori Memorial Day, Independence Day and Janmashtami — urging citizens to hoist the Tricolour and uphold national pride. 'The projects we launched today are just a glimpse,' he said. 'The double-engine government will ensure both the preservation of Sambhal's glorious past and the building of its bright future.'

India has defended its energy trade with Russia, maintaining that its oil imports are 'driven by national interest and market dynamics.' In a video released by Russian state media outlet Sputnik News, Doval described India's relationship with Russia as 'very special,' underlining the depth of long-standing strategic ties between the two countries. 'We have got a very special relationship, long relationship and we highly value our strategic partnership. We have had high-level engagements and these have contributed very substantially,' Doval said. He also welcomed the announcement of an upcoming state visit by President Putin to India, saying summit meetings have historically marked key moments in bilateral ties. 'We are very excited and delighted to learn about the visit of His Excellency, the President of Russia, President Putin, to India. I think that the dates are almost finalized now. The more important thing is that the summit meetings have always been a watershed point,' Doval added. According to sources cited by news agency ANI, while Doval confirmed that plans for the Russian president's visit are underway, no specific dates were finalised during his engagements in Moscow. India and Russia continue to expand their defence cooperation. In 2018, India signed a $5.43 billion deal for five squadrons of the S-400 Triumf air defence missile system from Russia. So far, three squadrons have been delivered.

FTCCI wants TG govt. to shield exporters, says State support vital
Trade and industry body Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI) has appealed to the Telangana government to support and protect exporters amid global trade challenges. The plea came in the backdrop of the tariff and additional tariff announcement of the U.S. President Donald Trump on imports from India. State-level interventions are equally vital for the exporters, FTCCI President R. Ravi Kumar said in a representation to Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu. Four-pronged support Exemption of trade license fee for manufacturing industries; reduction in the fees for commercial establishments by reverting to earlier cap of ₹7,000 per annum, in line with practices in other States; expedited release of pending incentives to MSMEs and large industries; and subsidies on logistics costs to make Telangana's exports more competitive globally are measures FTCCI sought from the State government. Mr. Ravi Kumar expressed concern over potential escalation of tariffs on Indian exports by the U.S. and how the move could significantly impact Telangana's export-driven sectors such as chemicals, agricultural products, including rice, engineering goods, textiles, and gems and jewellery. These industries contribute substantially to the State's GSDP, employment generation, and government revenues, he said. The threat of higher tariffs and penalties, coupled with weakening capital inflows, poses a grave challenge to exporters and MSMEs operating in the State. While the Centre is actively exploring measures to mitigate the impact—such as recalibrating bank risk models to lower borrowing costs, reducing testing and certification fees, and launching an Export Promotion Mission, State-level interventions are equally vital. 'Shielding exporters from external shocks is essential not just for protecting existing businesses but also for sustaining employment and economic growth in Telangana,' he said.
