Amon-Ra St. Brown's dad infuriates fans over ‘breeding' comments

New York Post14-07-2025
The father of Detroit Lions wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown made waves online while discussing his sons' personal lives, specifically saying they should have children with Black women in order to 'breed' better athletes.
John Brown and his wife, Miram, who is white, have three sons, including Equanimeous and Osiris, both of whom were Division I athletes. Equanimeous, a wide receiver and sixth-round draft pick in 2018, played for the Saints last year. Osiris was a wideout for Stanford but didn't pursue professional career due a lingering foot injury.
On Saturday, the 'St. Brown' podcast — which is hosted by Amon-Ra and Equanimeous — posted a clip of John, a former bodybuilder, explaining his philosophy on 'breeding' and raising three athletic sons.

'I believe in breeding,' John said. 'You gotta pick the right girl and the right guy… Look at you [both], good athlete, I'm Black, mom is white. I've done stepped on it once, you can't keep stepping on it because you're going to mess it up. You're going to weaken it… You can't keep cutting it. You and Brooklyn [Adams, Amon-Ra's fiancée], because Brooklyn's half and half, you've got a chance.

'… You've got to be careful, you've got to think about that. I'm Black, I've got the Black gold running through my veins, I'm excited and just going to find the right person to mate with. If I'm white, I'm saying, 'Let me get one of those brothers around here,' if you want to have athletes. If you don't want to have athletes, then just go ahead and spread your seed wherever.

'Mama got that big chin and big toes. Ain't nothing wrong with a big-toed woman… You've gotta think of this stuff, some guys don't think of it until later.'
The podcast was an old episode from August 2024, when John joined his sons as a guest.

Many were surprised by Brown's comments, while others deemed his remarks to be racist.

This isn't the first time John has echoed similar remarks when discussing his sons' personal lives on a mic.
During a December 2021 appearance on the 'Momentum' podcast, John explained how he told his sons to marry a Black woman.
'You can't keep cutting that blackness… My sons, I'm like, 'Man, you're all half black and half white. So you better try to marry a black girl because you want some athletes… because if not you gotta know what it is.
'You need a volleyball girl, like [5-foot-9]… African American, oh yeah. Make sure her knees are lined up, you gotta be careful with that.
'I like little ankles, because they're swift. You want strong knees, and ask her about her family, but don't be so obvious… [Ask] did your dad play sports? Did your mom play? … You gotta think about these things.'

Elina Svitolina ripped bettors for crossing line after Naomi Osaka loss

In case it wasn't already clear, bets you make on any sporting event are your responsibility and YOUR responsibility alone. An athlete is not obligated to follow through and will not tailor their performance based on whatever transaction a complete stranger agreed to behind the scenes (not to mention the ethical and legal concerns). And the moment you start venting out your frustrations to an athlete who "let you down," you've lost the plot entirely. That seems to be what's happened with Elina Svitolina. After losing to Naomi Osaka in the National Bank Open quarterfinals on Tuesday, the No. 13-ranked tennis player in the world took to her Instagram story to share screenshots of a handful of "shameful" messages from bettors filled with vitriol and anger over her failure at the hands of Osaka. Svitolina included messages that invoked death threats. Some mocked Svitolina's Ukrainian heritage amid the country's ongoing war with Russia. Others made racist comments about her husband, Gaël Monfils, a Black fellow professional tennis player. For obvious sensitivity reasons, I will not link out any of the images here. You can find them in Svitolina's story if you're so inclined. To say the least, this is not OK. Not at all. 'To all the bettors: I'm a mom before I'm an athlete,' Svitolina wrote in her Instagram story. 'The way you talk to women – to mothers – is SHAMEFUL. If your moms saw your messages, they'd be disgusted.' Friends, please remember what I'm about to say. Just because you lost a bet over a sports outcome does not mean you get to start harassing the person you think cost you money. Athletes are still, and stay with me here, human beings who deserve common decency like any of us. They're not props. The only person who costs you money in these kinds of situations is you. The betting buck starts and stops with you. Always.

We hit 32 in our Raiders countdown to kickoff. Who wore it best and who's wearing it now

We've reached 32 days until the Raiders season opener at Foxboro against the Patriots, With our countdown at 32 days we take a look at who currently dons the number in Silver & Black and who has brought it the most distinction. No. 32 Who's wearing it now: S Lonnie Johnson Jr Johnson was signed this offseason as a free agent. Though he hasn't been a start in three seasons, the Raiders signed him to start at safety for them in a rotation with newly signed Jeremy Chinn. Johnson suffered a broken fibula in the team's mock game last weekend that will have him out for the first month of the season. Who wore it best: RB Marcus Allen A Hall of Famer and owner of most of the Raiders franchise rushing records. These records include most career rushing yards (8545), most season leading the team in rushing (7), most attempts (2090), most rushing yards in a season (1759), most career 100-yard games (22), most 100-yard games in a season (11), career rushing touchdowns (79), and most seasons leading the team in rushing TD's (8). He also, of course, was an unstoppable force for the Raiders in their 1983 playoff run and win in Super Bowl XVIII. His reverse field touchdown run is one of the greatest plays in NFL history.

'The Worst Movie Of 2025': Ice Cube's War Of The Worlds Hits 0% On Rotten Tomatoes

We may receive a commission on purchases made from links. It's rare for a piece of entertainment to bring the entire internet together anymore. Usually, there's some contrarian corner of the web ready to defend even the most maligned release — or to tear apart something that's being widely praised. But when it comes to the new "War of the Worlds" adaptation (did we even need another one?) that's now available on Prime Video and starring Ice Cube, let's just say that it's uniting critics and audiences in a way that you hardly ever see anymore, with most agreeing that this is easily the worst movie of 2025. Where to even begin with this one: Much of it consists of Ice Cube reacting to disaster scenes playing out on a computer screen. The Amazon product placement in the movie, from delivery drivers to drones to gift cards, is so overt it's cringe-worthy. The movie's tagline ("It's worse than you think") works on multiple levels, and the bottom line is that there's no mystery at all as to why this "War of the Worlds" version is currently sitting on a 17% Rotten Tomatoes audience score and a 0% critics' score. Obviously, it begs the question: How did this get made? Read more: 59 New Movies Are Now Streaming On Prime Video - Here Are 3 Worth Watching Amazon's War Of The Worlds Is The Alien Disaster Nobody Asked For From its early-2000s Syfy Channel visuals to its Amazon-heavy plot, this "War of the Worlds" is being described by Rotten Tomatoes reviewers as "psychotic," "pointless," and "a career low" for everyone involved. Needless to say, Ice Cube isn't able to salvage what one Letterboxd user has described as a "screenlife fever dream that feels like it was written by someone featured on 'Doomsday Preppers'." It's not just bad. It's bad in a way that arguably ought to offend audiences, that a company would think so little of you it assumes you'll make time to watch this. As one YouTube commenter summed up perfectly: "When the star of 'Hunger Games' hates your movie, you know you messed up." Prime Video may have banked on star power (the cast also includes Eva Longoria and Clark Gregg) and a nostalgic title, but instead, they've unleashed a cultural event so bad that the internet can't stop talking about it. Audiences on Rotten Tomatoes have torn into it with ferocity: "Possibly the worst film I've ever tried to watch, did they just call it in whilst sat at home on a rainy Sunday?" "Were the actors paid in free Prime memberships?" "Nothing makes sense... You need an IQ below potato to not start laughing at every attempt made by the writers." My favorite zinger, though, comes from this YouTube commenter: "It's rare I miss the logic and clear thinking of the 'Sharknado' movies." Because, obviously — when a movie manages to make people nostalgic for "Sharknado," you know something's gone so wrong. Read the original article on BGR.
