As you enter the second year in office, what are your priorities?
Our primary focus will be to build upon the successful initiatives we've already established, particularly in three key areas — commitment to social development, specifically expanding farmer welfare programmes; advancing women's empowerment initiatives and creating employment opportunities for our youth.
Secondly, we're prioritising infrastructure development by strengthening healthcare facilities, improving educational institutions and enhancing transportation networks. Thirdly, we're focused on economic growth by ensuring promised industrial investments are implemented to create a robust foundation for sustainable development. We are working toward our vision of achieving a US$ 500 billion economy by 2036.
To achieve this economic dream, you need double digit growth, far more than the projected 8-8.5% this year. What is the roadmap?
I understand it's not so easy. Transforming our economy presents significant challenges. Currently, our economy relies heavily on agriculture, with 75% of the population dependent on farming, primarily single-crop paddy cultivation. To address this imbalance, we are implementing a two-pronged approach.

First, we are promoting agricultural diversification by encouraging farmers to cultivate non-paddy cash crops.
Second, we are investing in skill development programmes to create a balanced workforce across farming, industrial and service sectors. Unlike our predecessors, we are expanding govt sector employment. They are needed to effectively implement our vision. Additionally, we are working diligently to materialise investment commitments exceeding Rs 16 lakh crore, which will further support this economic transformation.
Investment promises have failed to yield results in the past. What makes you so confident?
There is a fundamental difference between our govt and that of the predecessors. While the BJD govt engaged in vote-bank politics and showed little commitment in implementing real change, we are dedicated to turning promises into concrete actions. With strong willpower and the backing of the central govt, we are prepared to go above and beyond to achieve our goals.
Our robust mining sector serves as a cornerstone for our economy, and we plan to leverage this strength by expanding mine auctions and optimising revenue from minor minerals.
How do you plan to achieve urbanisation plan of 40% population by 2036, which is less than 20% now?
Expansion of Bhubaneswar and development of new urban centres across Odisha will be driven by strategic industrialisation and service sector growth.
Significant step in this direction is the planned satellite city at Khurda-Gothapatna, where land has already been earmarked through various schemes. In central Bhubaneswar, near Rajmahal Square, plans are underway to establish a world-class market complex and IT hub.
Additionally, 4-5 nodal cities will be developed across the state, each supported by region-specific industries.
Infra projects like a second AIIMS, another central university and a second agricultural university had been promised in the manifesto. What is the status?
Govt has been working in close coordination to ensure that promises are met.
When I said infrastructure is a focus, all these are part of that. We have already started the process to set up a second AIIMS. It will come up as promised. Besides, our govt is committed to have medical colleges in all 30 districts in a phased manner. Similarly, existing medical colleges and higher educational institutions will be improved.
There is nothing in the manifesto, which will not be fulfilled.
There is communal tension in Bhadrak while gastroenteritis has taken a toll in Jajpur...
Govt has taken both these developments very seriously, though these are isolated incidents. After BJP govt came to power, Bhadrak was only the second such communal incident after the one in Sambalpur. Our govt is committed to ensure everybody, irrespective of community, feels at home in Odisha. The govt has taken proactive steps. There were some administrative changes after the Bhadrak incident. A package has been announced for family of a youth who was killed.
Regarding diarrhoea in Jajpur, govt has deployed additional health experts to contain the situation.
Congress has termed your first year as one of deceit while BJD chief Naveen Patnaik has criticised you for making long speeches?
The Congress party's state leadership is struggling with internal divisions and lacks a clear identity. Their attempts to capture public attention seem more performative than substantive. When I speak at length, it's because I genuinely represent all Odisha residents and maintain complete transparency. Unlike some others in the past, I don't rely on prepared statements from officials. My grass-roots background has given me deep insight into the real situations people face.
Though I may not have extensive administrative experience, I have a clear vision and a thorough understanding of the challenges facing our people.

Summoned Again In Formula E Case, KTR's "Lie Detector Test" Dare To Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao has been issued a summons, once again, to appear before the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in connection with the alleged irregularities in the Hyderabad Formula E case. KTR, as he is popularly known, has been asked to appear before the ACB at 10 am on Monday. Reacting to the summons, KTR said the Congress government was trying to keep people busy with a circus and distractions because they cannot run a government. He said the Congress and its "clown Chief Minister's antics won't deter us". KTR said he was being investigated in the Formula-E case, where Rs 44 crore was "transferred from one bank to another, and the money was very much in the account of Formula E". The BRS leader said as a law-abiding citizen, he would fully cooperate with the probe officials, but took a dig at the Chief Minister, referring to a case in which he is facing an ACB probe too. "Mr Revant Reddy, as we both are facing an ongoing ACB investigation, why not both of us take a Lie Detector test in the presence of a Judge, broadcast it on Live Television and let the whole of Telangana decide who's the culprit. Do you have the courage to take the test along with me #BagMan? he posted on X. "Why waste crores of public money by repeated enquiries and propaganda, especially when you keep claiming every day that the state is bankrupt," he asked. Significantly, KTR's sister and BRS MLC K Kavitha has posted support to her brother on X, posting that she strongly condemned the repeated issuance of notices to "our working president @KTRBRS as part of political agenda". She said, "No matter how many conspiracies you hatch, we will continue to expose your failures in the public sphere." Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar reacted to KTR's post on X, saying it reflects his deep, visceral personality and his current mindset. "Calling commissions of inquiry established by due process of law, or the judicial system of India 'a waste of public money...' is the same ignorance as your father who wanted to "rewrite entirely" the Constitution of India drafted by intellectual giants like Babasaheb Dr BR Ambedkar and a pantheon of greats, and the founding fathers of the nation," he said. "The problem of thinking you are the state is not only wrong, illegal, immoral, but also medieval, patriarchal and feudal. You are not the state. No individual is above the law. Don't you get it at all? Of course, you don't! Your unbridled, unrestrained arrogance from stolen money and corruption is so deep that even 18 months have not been enough for a reality check?" The Congress leader mocked KTR for claiming that the BRS which would win 100 seats, whereas they did not get even 40. He said KTR had claimed that they would decide the next government at the Centre, whereas the people of Telangana had given them no seats.

Are Americans with 401(k) accounts saving enough for retirement? Fidelity's latest report has this to say

After years of slow progress, Americans may finally be getting close to saving enough for retirement, or at least those with access to a 401(k) plan are, as per a report. Americans are getting closer to retirement readiness Fidelity Investment's latest retirement savings report revealed that in the first quarter of 2025, the average total 401(k) savings rate on its plans reached 14.3%, reported USA Today. That's an all-time high and just a step away from the long-recommended 15% benchmark many financial advisers suggest for a secure retirement, as per the report. A decade of progress Ten years ago, the picture looked different, as in early 2015, employees were saving just 8.1% of their pre-tax income, while employers added 4.4%, for a total savings rate of 12.5%, according to USA Today. By comparison, today's employees are contributing 9.5%, with employers pitching in 4.8%, as per the report. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Air conditioners without external unit. Better employer matches help One reason for the increase is that employers are more generous with their matching contributions. As competition for talent grows, many companies now offer to match up to 5% of employee salaries, as per USA Today. Live Events A senior director of investing at Betterment, Mindy Yu said, 'That's basically free money for saving for retirement , and that is something that employees value,' as quoted in the report. Auto-enrollment is making a difference Auto-enrollment policies are also having an impact as since the beginning of 2025, most new 401(k) plans are required to automatically enroll workers unless they opt out, as per USA Today. This simple change has encouraged more participation and is steadily improving savings habits, according to the report. More than one-third of Fidelity's plans now auto-enroll workers at contribution rates of 5% or more, reported USA Today. Many plans also include auto-escalation features, which increase contributions gradually every year, and nearly three-quarters of Fidelity's plans now include this feature, reported USA Today. A head of thought leadership at Alight Solutions, Rob Austin said, 'Unless a new hire takes action, they're going to be saving for the plan,' adding, 'That's much different than how 401(k)s first started, and you had to enroll on your own,' as quoted in the report. Gen Z steps up Fidelity's data shows that Gen Z workers, though they are in the early phase of their careers, are saving at a promising rate of 11.2%, as per USA Today. That's close behind Millennials at 13.5% and Generation X at 15.4%, according to the report. Austin said, 'I think most of the newer, younger cohorts are in this environment where they learn that they need to be saving a lot,' quoted USA Today. FAQs What's a good savings rate for my 401(k)? Financial advisers typically recommend saving at least 15% of your salary, including employer match for a secure retirement. What's auto-enrollment and why does it matter? Auto-enrollment automatically signs you up for a 401(k) when you start a job. It's helped more people start saving without needing to opt in.
