Barrie home burns down in large fire
The scene of a fire at a home in Barrie, Ont., on Sat., Aug. 9, 2025. A home in Barrie, Ont. burned down after a large fire around noon on Saturday. It happened on Marshall Street near Thorncrest Road. Residents claimed to CTV News that it was a house explosion. Paramedics and Barrie police were also on scene. The area was closed as firefighters continued extinguishing the wreckage. CTV News reached out to Barrie Fire and Emergency Services for more information. Note: This is a developing story. Teen charged in crash that damaged multiple vehicles in southwest Calgary
Police say several parked vehicles were struck after a driver lost control on Macleod Trail near 58 Avenue S.W. on Aug. 8, 2025. Charges have been filed against a 19-yearold man police believe is responsible for a crash that damaged seven vehicles parked on a street in southwest Calgary Friday. At around 2:10 a.m., police say a 2018 BMW M5, driven by the man, was reportedly driving north on Macleod Trail S.W. at high speed. As the vehicle approached 58 Ave. S.W., the vehicle tried to turn west onto 58 Ave S.W. while fleeing a traffic stop. The BMW hit the back end of a parked vehicle, causing a chain reaction that damaged six other vehicles parked along 58 Ave. S.W. As a result, the 19-year-old was charged with two counts of impaired driving-related offences and two counts of failing to comply with a release order. He's scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
