AGRA/DEHRADUN/HARIDWAR: As many as 90 Bangladeshi nationals, including 22 children, were taken into custody in Mathura district for allegedly staying in India illegally. The group was apprehended from brickyards in Khajpur village under Naujheel police station limits in the temple town. Separately, Uttarakhand police also arrested two foreign nationals — a US citizen and a Bangladeshi woman — during a verification drive.
Acting on a tip-off received Friday, joint teams from Mathura's Naujheel police station and the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) conducted a raid and detained 37 men, 31 women, and 22 children. During the operation, police also seized 31 mobile phones, two Aadhaar cards, four photocopies of Aadhaar cards, and one PAN card.
A senior Mathura police official involved in the probe told TOI, 'During questioning, they told us they had arrived 10 to 15 years ago, crossing porous borders. After that, they moved around in Delhi, Haryana, Bihar etc. They were in Mathura for nearly 3–4 months, while some arrived 15–20 days ago in the city. We've started questioning the contractors and owners of the brick yards where they were working.' He added that some of the children are as young as two to three months.
Mathura SSP Shlok Kumar said, 'A case has been filed under Section 14 of Foreigners Act, 1946 and BNS Sections 318(4) (cheating), 338 (forgery), 336 (altering documents), 340(2) (forged document or electronic record as genuine, knowing it to be forged). The Aadhaar cards seized from them are from UP's Pratapgarh and other districts. Central agencies have also been informed about this, and we will move ahead in the direction of deporting them lawfully.'
Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, police arrested a US national from Pithoragarh on April 30 and a Bangladeshi woman from Haridwar on Thursday. Both were found to be residing in the state without valid documents.

Chandigarh: Driver makes off with impounded truck from Traffic Lines, booked
A truck driver was booked for allegedly stealing his impounded vehicle from the Sector 29 Traffic Lines on Thursday night. The vehicle, bearing registration number RJ01-GD-0370, was later traced to the Verka Milk Plant in Mohali. According to an official report submitted by assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Satyavir Singh, in-charge of the Impound Section, the truck was seized near the Hallo Majra light point on Thursday by ASI Subhash Chander under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, including Sections 115, 194(1), 3/181, 29/192, 146, 196 and 177. The vehicle was then deposited at the Sector 29 Traffic Lines around 7.20 pm and its key was handed over to the impound section. However, the following day, at 11 am, the vehicle was missing from the parking area. ASI Satyavir suspected that the driver, Mahaveer Prasad Jat, used a duplicate key to take away the truck without settling the challan. After informing senior officers, a search operation was launched by the Impound Section. Contact was established with the vehicle owner and driver using the numbers provided on the truck. It was then learned that the vehicle was being unloaded at the Verka Milk Plant in Mohali. Acting swiftly, ASI Satyavir, along with other traffic officials, rushed to the location and successfully tracked down both the vehicle and driver. The driver, Mahaveer Prasad Jat, a resident of Ajmer, Rajasthan, was taken into custody and brought back to the Sector 29 Traffic Lines along with the truck and the second key. Based on a formal complaint and preliminary inquiry, a case was registered against the accused under Sections 303 (2) (theft) and 317 (2) (stolen property) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Telangana anti-drugs agency finds cartel's hawala cash in washing machine in Goa
The Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) uncovered a major hawala operation linked to an international drug cartel, seizing nearly ₹50 lakh in cash hidden inside a washing machine in a Goa apartment. The money was reportedly moments away from being transferred to Nigeria. TGANB director Sandeep Shandilya said the cash, collected over just two days, was recovered during a raid conducted after a month-long surveillance operation in coordination with the Goa police. 'Had we delayed the raid by an hour, the entire amount would have been transferred. It was neatly stashed inside the washing machine, ready for dispatch,' ToI quoted Shandilya as saying. According to the report, the raid was carried out at an apartment in Highland Park and at Sangeetha Mobile Shop in Mapusa. The main accused, Uttam Singh, who ran the mobile shop, was arrested. The probe agency said that Singh laundered ₹2.1 crore of drug money within a week. His modus operandi involved receiving cash from foreign nationals, routing it through informal channels to Mumbai, and then facilitating its transfer to Nigeria. The ₹49.65 lakh seized during the raid is believed to be part of a larger money laundering network and a TGANB team is being sent to Delhi for further investigation. The hawala network came to light after the arrest of Nigerian national Emmanuel Bediako alias Maxwell, from Hyderabad earlier this week, reported news agency PTI. The 34-year-old was found in possession of 150 grams of cocaine and ecstasy pills worth ₹1.25 crore. According to a TGANB statement cited by news agency PTI, Bediako had made three visits to India since 2013, operating primarily out of Goa and selling various drugs including high-purity "celebrity cocaine," regular cocaine, and MDMA. TGANB officials believe the drugs were sourced from abroad and the profits routed to Nigeria via a sophisticated laundering network involving Indian hawala operators and the Nigerian drug cartel.
