Owaisi accuses BJP of fuelling hatred in country

on Tuesday alleged that the 'hatred atmosphere' created by the
BJP
in the country led to a mob desecrating the tomb of Nawab Abdul Samad in Fatehpur.
"Anti-social elements belonging to Hindutva groups have been enjoying a free run in states like Uttar Pradesh and Assam. Tombs are being vandalised, and the sanctity of Dargahs is being destroyed in the presence of police. The police and UP govt are closing their eyes and ears whenever historic, religious and cultural properties of Muslims are being attacked and Hindutva groups are allowed to take the law into their hands," he alleged.
Owaisi questioned why the police did not play a proactive role in stopping these miscreants. "In the presence of police, graves are being destroyed and vandalised. The police do nothing. If the same people were from the Muslim community, then imagine what would have happened?" he asked.

HC warns Nagpur officials of legal action on stray dog menace
Nagpur: The Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court issued a stern warning to civic and police officials over persistent stray dog menace, declaring it will now hold "every responsible officer from top to bottom personally liable for failures in enforcement". During Wednesday's hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by activist Vijay Talewar, the bench of Justice Anil Kilor and Justice Vrushali Joshi said for over two decades, the court was passing orders on this issue without tangible results. "We will not keep issuing reminders. If there is failure in implementation, legal action will follow," the court observed. The bench ordered Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to submit a complete list of all officers responsible for stray dog control, stating notices will be sent to each of them. "They will be given an opportunity to respond, and accountability will be fixed individually," the court said. The petitioner's counsel, senior advocate Firdos Mirza, argued that slapping notices on municipal commissioners have proved ineffective. "Every officer in the chain needs to be made answerable," he told the court. Nashik/Kolhapur/Mumbai: Several civic bodies in Maharashtra, including the municipal corporations in Nashik, Jalgaon, Kolhapur and Ichalkaranji, on Wednesday ordered the closure of slaughterhouses and meat shops on Aug 15, sparking a controversy. Nagpur and Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporations had already issued similar orders. When asked about some municipal corporations ordering the closure of abattoirs on Aug 15, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said the govt had no role in the matter. "State government is not interested in (knowing) who eats what. We have many other issues to address," Fadnavis told reporters in Mumbai on Wednesday. He added, "The state never took such a decision. A govt resolution (GR) was issued in Aug 1988. Municipal corporations take such decisions (ordering the closure of slaughterhouses) on their own. Even I was not aware of such a GR existing for such a long period." Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, BJP's alliance partner in Mahayuti, expressed discomfort with the slaughterhouse closure on Aug 15. On Tuesday, he said it was wrong to impose such a ban. The BJP, for its part, said the policy to keep abattoirs shut on Independence Day was first implemented when Sharad Pawar was chief minister of Maharashtra and sought to know if the opposition would question him about it. In Nashik, the order was issued by the civic body's veterinary officer, Pramod Sonwane, following the directive of Nashik municipal commissioner Manisha Khatri. The order states, "All citizens within the NMC jurisdictions are hereby informed that as per govt directives, since Friday, Aug 15, is Independence Day, all slaughterhouses within Nashik Municipal Corporation limits will remain closed on that day and no one should slaughter animals within the Nashik Municipal Corporation jurisdiction on this day. Please note that if anyone is found slaughtering animals on this day, legal action will be taken against the persons concerned." Jalgaon Municipal Corporation has also issued an order that all mutton and meat markets in the city will remain shut on Aug 15, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Lord Shri Krishna, and on Aug 27, on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. The order was issued by Uday Patil, the assistant commissioner (health) of Jalgaon Municipal Corporation. In Kolhapur and Ichalkaranji, authorities said the restrictions are not new. There is no ban on meat consumption or serving cooked meat in eateries. However, the order issued by the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation stated that chicken and mutton shop operators who defy the orders may invite legal action. Fadnavis said he asked various municipal corporations why they had taken such a decision, in response to which they sent him a copy of the 1988 GR. "They (corporations) said they take this decision every year, (they had taken it) even when Uddhav Thackeray was CM. They sent me a copy of it," he said.Referring to a remark made by Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut earlier in the day that the CM was making Maharashtra "impotent" with such a ban, Fadnavis said without naming him, "Some people have started calling those eating vegetarian food as impotent. This foolishness must stop. Each one can eat what he wants. Our Constitution has given the right to everyone to live."Opposition has called the decision "nonsensical." In a social media post, he said, "There is no doubt that Ajit Pawar, who has a good grip on the administration and is the Dy CM in the Mahayuti govt and is now opposing the meat ban decision of August 15, is also aware that this decision was not made by the Mahayuti government." Hitting out at MVA, Upadhya said that Awhad and Aaditya Thackeray, who were ministers when the earlier MVA govt issued the same orders, cannot be said to have contracted the disease of forgetfulness. "Awhad and Thackeray, who have completely lost their conscience and are in despair after losing the party and power, are against every action of the government," he said. Rahul Gandhi's lawyer fears ‘harm to Congress leader', later makes U-turn
THE LAWYER representing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the criminal defamation case filed by Satyaki Savarkar, the grandnephew of Hindutva ideologue V D Savarkar, on Wednesday submitted a pursis in the Pune court hearing the case, but later made a U-turn, saying he had filed the application without consulting Rahul. The pursis stated that there was 'substantial apprehension that Rahul Gandhi may face harm' in light of his current political stand and Satyeki's 'lineage from Nathuram Godse'. On Wednesday, lawyer Milind Pawar, who is representing Rahul, filed the pursis, which is a formal written submission placed before court. Pawar had earlier said the court had admitted the pursis after he filed it in the afternoon. 'Rahul Gandhi has condemned the present government by raising the slogan 'Vote Chor Sarkar'. He has produced documentary evidence alleging serious electoral irregularities, directly implicating the Election Commission in actions which, by their very nature, provoke hostility from those whose political power and ideological interests stand challenged. The apprehension of harm to Rahul Gandhi is neither abstract nor unfounded. In light of the documented history of violent and anti-constitutional tendencies linked to the complainant's lineage, and considering the prevailing political climate, there exists a clear, reasonable, and substantial apprehension that Rahul Gandhi may face harm, wrongful implication, or other forms of targeting by persons subscribing to the ideology of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar,' it stated. 'Prudence demands that this apprehension be placed on record at this stage. The complainant himself has asserted descent from the associates of Mahatma Gandhi's assassins. In view of the grave history associated with such lineage, the defence harbours a genuine and reasonable apprehension that history must not be permitted to repeat itself,' it stated. However, in the evening, Pawar issued a press statement, 'The pursis dated August 13 was filed by me in the court without instructions from the client. The contents of the pursis were drafted by me without consulting my client Rahul Gandhi. My client has taken strong exception to filing of this pursis and has expressed his disagreement with the contents. I shall file a formal application tomorrow for withdrawal of the said pursis before the court.' When contacted earlier after the pursis was filed, Satyaki Savarkar had said, 'The statements made by defence in the pursis are completely baseless and appalling. They have claimed apprehension of harm to Rahul Gandhi which is baseless because he has been exempted from physically attending the proceedings. The defence has been filing such frivolous applications and pursis every now and then and are trying to delay the entire case.' Meanwhile on Wednesday Satyaki Savarkar's lawyer Sangram Kolhatkar moved the court seeking action against Rahul alleging he had committed perjury. 'In the past, all relevant documents have been duly provided to the advocate representing the accused, who has acknowledged the receipt. Despite this, the accused is now falsely claiming that no such material was received. This is a clear attempt to mislead the court. We therefore urge the court, in the strongest terms, to initiate appropriate action against the accused for this deliberate misrepresentation and committing perjury,' Kolhatkar said.
