The entity condemns this act, which comes after days of hard work by the team, who worked around the clock to source the unit to restore power.
Entity spokesperson Isaac Mangena explained that, currently, their team is assessing the extent of the damage to the infrastructure in preparation for repairs. 'Once the assessment is complete, we will source the necessary material and commence repairs immediately.'
The outage, which began on August 8, affected all customers in Bloubosrand. Power has since been restored to approximately 90% of customers, with the remaining 10% still without supply due to the damaged unit.
'We understand the inconvenience this has caused,' said Mangena, 'and sincerely apologise to all affected customers. Our teams are committed to sourcing the necessary material, carrying out repairs to the vandalised unit, and restoring supply as soon as possible.'
Mangena urged customers to unplug all appliances to prevent inrush current when power is restored. This helps stabilise the network, prevent overloading, and ensure a more reliable electricity supply. 'We also appeal to customers, community members, and community watch groups to stand against these criminal elements causing prolonged outages.
'Join forces with City Power in the fight against the scourge of theft and vandalism by reporting any incidents involving our network infrastructure.'

The R555 was closed for almost four hours following a horrific head-on collision between a Ford Fiesta and a BMW. The driver of the Ford Fiesta and a baby, also from the same car, died on the scene. The driver of the BMW, Nhlanhla Madi sat motionless and watched as emergency personnel tended to the third victim, a woman who was a passenger in the Ford Fiesta. An eyewitness who drove behind the BMW said the driver of the Ford Fiesta allegedly tried to overtake a bakkie and lost control. 'The Ford Fiesta nipped the back of a trailer, and when he tried to swerve back, he lost control and smashed the BMW head-on.' The eyewitness did not want his name mentioned.
