California State Parks rolls out new reservation upgrades to help campers find perfect site
Outdoor adventurists can now view nearly real-time campsite availability directly on Parks.ca.gov, the official website for California State Parks. Previously, this information was only accessible through ReserveCalifornia.com. While reservations will still be completed through the Reserve California website, the integration with the main site is designed to make trip planning more seamless and intuitive, according to state park officials.
'California's state parks are home to some of the world's best campgrounds, and we want to make it as easy as possible to find your perfect campsite,' said State Parks Director Armando Quintero. 'Whether you prefer camping among the Redwoods, steps away from the ocean or high up in the mountains, your next state parks adventure is just a few clicks away.'

In addition to the website, California State Parks is expanding its popular reservation drawings, or lottery system, to include more in-demand campgrounds. After a successful pilot program at Mount Tamalpais State Park, drawings are now being introduced at Malibu Creek State Park starting this month, with Morro Bay State Park and McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park to follow later this summer.
The free lottery-style system is designed to give more people a fair shot at booking the state's most sought-after campsites, officials explained. Since launching in 2023, the reservation drawings have seen more than 100,000 entries for the Steep Ravines Cabins at Mount Tamalpais, showing just how many people are interested in the popular campground.
Campers can enter drawings and check availability through the Reserve California website. For more information on how the drawing system works, visitors can refer to the Reservation Drawing FAQs.
With these new features, California State Parks hopes to make it easier for both residents and out-of-state visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the Golden State — whether for a quick weekend getaway or full-blown outdoor vacation.

July 31 (UPI) -- TLC is previewing Season 7 of 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way ahead of its Sept. 8 premiere. This chapter of the reality series follows six couples, each one with an American partner who leaves the country in the name of love, traveling to England, France, Tasmania, Aruba, India and Colombia. The preview released Thursday introduces Chloe, who leaves behind a six-figure job in Massachusetts to pursue a relationship with Johnny, who mans a boat tour in Aruba, only to find she doesn't trust him. Other couples include an exotic dancer from Texas who moves to Tasmania to be with a man twenty years her junior, and a pair who try to save their marriage by moving to France. "Each couple faces deeply personal turning points that push their relationships to the brink," a press release reads. Four of the couples -- Greta (Oklahoma) and Matthew (England), Anthony (California) and Manon (France), Pattiya (Texas) and Dylan (Tasmania), and Chloe (Massachusetts) and Johny (Aruba) -- are new faces, while two of the pairs are returning couples from the 90 Day franchise -- Jenny (California) and Sumit (India), and Luke (California) and Madelein (Colombia). A Delta flight diverted after encountering severe turbulence which injured over 2 dozen people. The flight from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam hit trouble over Wyoming, under an hour into the journey. 25 people were taken to local hospitals after the A330 diverted to Minneapolis. 25 people were taken to hospital after a Delta Air Lines flight encountered "significant turbulence" on Wednesday. Flight 56 departed Salt Lake City at 4:45 p.m. MT and was supposed to land in Amsterdam around nine hours later. About 40 minutes after takeoff, data from Flightradar24 shows the Airbus A330 encountered turbulence at 37,000 feet over Wyoming. It rose about 1,000 feet, then dropped as much as 2,300 feet. The flight-tracking website showed several other aircraft avoiding storms in the area while the Delta plane appeared to fly through a rough weather patch. The A330 diverted to Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, landing safely about two hours after taking off from Utah. "Medical personnel met the flight upon arrival to evaluate customers and crew," Delta said in a statement. 25 people were taken to local hospitals, "for evaluation and care." "We are grateful for the support of all emergency responders involved," the airline added. "Safety is our No. 1 value at Delta, and our Delta Care Team is working directly with customers to support their immediate needs." Turbulence events have come under the spotlight recently, especially since a passenger died on a Singapore Airlines flight last May during severe turbulence. Several airlines subsequently instituted tighter rules to enhance safety. For example, Korean Air announced it would end cabin service 20 minutes earlier and stop serving noodles in economy due to fears of burns. Turbulence is getting more common due to the climate crisis, Guy Gratton, an associate professor of aviation and the environment at Cranfield University, previously told Business Insider. Warmer temperatures allow the atmosphere to hold more moisture, increasing the likelihood and intensity of thunderstorms. In 2023, researchers at the University of Reading in the UK found that severe air turbulence had increased 55% over a typical point in the North Atlantic Ocean between 1979 and 2020. "It's essentially like taking a box with something in it and starting to shake the box up and down," Gratton said in an August 2024 interview. "If you're the person who's inside the box, then you get thrown around inside the box, and that's where injuries happen." "Passengers are told to keep their seatbelts done up because if you're tied to the box, you're much less likely to get injured," he added.
