Can you do the Nicki Minaj TikTok challenge?

If you have a few seconds, social media has a new exercise for you to try.
First, do a single-legged squat and cross the other leg over. Then try that in the highest pair of heels you can find.
Once you have that figured out, do the same pose, in those heels, on top of two cooking pots stacked on the kitchen counter – or on top of the monkey bars at a playground jungle gym or on top of a single soda can.
The pretzel-like pose is called the Nicki Minaj because – in what feels like ancient history by social media standards – the Trinidadian rapper and singer did it beside a swimming pool in the music video for her 2013 track High School .
A clip from that video has resurfaced on TikTok in the past week, seemingly at random, and has taken on a life of its own as users have tried to recreate the pose in increasingly precarious locations, while challenging one another to come up with more difficult versions.
The hashtag #nickiminajchallenge has been viewed more than 1.3 billion times.
And the challenge has drawn celebrity participants, such as American comedienne Christina Kirkman (balancing on a cooking pot and a can of soup) and American singer Ciara (balancing on a stack of dumbbells).

'The idea is, how could we make this tougher? How could we make this more tricky?' said Francesca Pagan, 27, who posted a video of herself doing the Nicki on top of three books, one cooking pot and an aluminium can while balancing a book on her head. 'The riskier it is, the more amazed people are.'
It is also essential to look calm and collected while doing the pose. Having done gymnastics and cheerleading as a kid certainly helped, Pagan added.
'I'm not going to say I recommend everyone do it because that's just in bad faith,' she said. 'I think you have to have a certain level of confidence in your ability to balance.'
Some commenters questioned whether her version of the pose was real, Pagan said, because of its difficulty. So, she posted bloopers showing her losing her balance and the book falling off her head. She then posted a second video of the Nicki, in which she posed on top of even more stacked pots.
For some, the challenge has become a way to showcase their businesses or passions.
A video posted on Fenty Beauty's account, for example, features a woman doing the Nicki on top of a stack of the cosmetic brand's products in a Sephora store. Mothers shown perched atop a stack of toys, surrounded by their tumbling children, seem to project uncanny calmness amid the chaos of parenting.
Professional circus artist Brianna Kalisch received a message from her friend a few days ago. 'He was like, 'You should do this,'' she said.
Until participating in the challenge, TikTok videos of her bottle walking and balancing feats, which had once been flagged as 'dangerous activities', had not gained much traction on the platform, Kalisch said. But she thought she would give the Nicki a shot anyway.
She created a pyramid of 12 champagne bottles, climbed on top, and then assumed the pose. Her sister handed her another bottle that she placed on her head.
In two days, the video received more than two million views. 'I actually tried juggling,' Kalisch said, 'but my knees were in the way. It didn't work.' – ©2025 The New York Times Company

#SHOWBIZ: Amy of Search issues letter of demand to Shila Amzah

KUALA LUMPUR: Lawyers for Datuk Amy of Search have sent a letter of demand to singer Shila Amzah, following the recent viral controversy involving the two artistes. Amy's lawyer, Datuk M Reza Hassan, confirmed the notice had been issued but did not share any further details. "We just sent a letter of demand, but they (Shila's lawyers) have asked for time to get further instructions from Shila. I can't share anything more for now. We'll see how it goes," M Reza told HM Online. The dispute began after Shila, 35, whose real name is Nurshahila Amir Amzah, filed a police report on July 10. The 'Patah Seribu' singer claimed a legendary singer had verbally attacked her at a recent event they both attended. Shila later confirmed the individual was Amy, who is also the father of actress Nabila Huda. Initial police investigations revealed the tension was caused by Amy's dissatisfaction with Shila's alleged interference in his family's affairs. Both parties have since had their statements taken by the police. Following this, Amy filed a counter-report at the Shah Alam District Police Headquarters on July 16, which was also confirmed by M Reza. Adding to the speculation, Amy was recently seen deleting all of his posts on Instagram, leading to questions about his actions and current situation.

Actress Bella Astillah had to present award to ex-husband's rumoured fling

Photo: TV3/YouTube There was an awkward moment at Malaysia's Melodi Hottest Awards 2025 on Aug 3. Malaysian singer-actress Bella Astillah was one of the presenters at the event broadcast live on TV3 from Putrajaya International Convention Centre. The 31-year-old was presenting the award for the winner of the Hottest Female Celebrity category with Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman. Bella was visibly uncomfortable after she opened the envelope and saw the name of the winner. 'I know this one... I know her very well. Sophia,' she said, referring to Malaysian actress Sophia Albarakbah. Sophia, 32, went on stage after her name was announced. Bella swiftly passed her the trophy and a bouquet of flowers without making eye contact or acknowledging her. In early 2023, Bella accused Sophia of trying to wreck her marriage with her then husband, Malaysia-based Singaporean actor Aliff Aziz. Aliff and Sophia had both starred in the drama series Ku Akad Kau Dengan Bismillah (2023). Bella and Aliff, 34, first divorced in 2019, but reconciled in 2020. They divorced for the second time in June 2024 after Aliff was caught in khalwat (close proximity) with Malaysian actress Ruhainies, 33. Sophia was asked about the incident with Bella after the ceremony. "I'm OK because we're in the same industry. I never felt as if I was being mocked. Maybe that's just her way of presenting the award," she told entertainment portal Gempak. For the record, Bella and Syed Saddiq won in the Hottest Celebrity Couple Goals category, but she did not speak to the media. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
